Chief Duncan followed the swat team into the museum. He carried his gun out, although he wasn't sure he needed it. With so many men with him holding rifles, he got enough protection to keep his ass safe.
The Swat team spread out across the main hall, checking each corner. Duncan stopped in the middle of the hall, staring at what appeared to be broken fossil bones. "Alright, look everywhere for the suspects. I want to know what the hell they were doing here."
"Yes, sir!" One swat dashed to the exhibits in the other rooms near the main hall.
Duncan took out a cigarette and lit it. After taking a long puff, he sighed.
The night was becoming too long. So many cases of strange creatures being sighted in the damn city.
All he wanted to do was go home and sleep with his wife in his warm bed. But whatever was happening, he couldn't take a break yet.
Damn crime never sleeps. Duncan kneeled while staring at the bones. He couldn't tell what the fossils belonged to. Some big ass dinosaur he noticed with a missing skull. The small flat pieces and teeth near the fallen skeleton frame might be the skull. Who would want to break into a museum to break a dinosaur?
The leader of the swat approached Duncan. "Nobody is here, sir. There is one emergency exit open in the back. They probably escaped through there "
"Then let's secure this entire museum," Duncan ordered. "This place is now a crime scene."
The swat leader nodded and walked away. If a school wanted to go on a field trip to the Science Academy Center, they better change their schedule.
Another swat member approached Duncan. "Sir, we found the entire natural exhibit a mess. And something is missing."
Duncan dropped his cigarette to the floor and stepped on it, putting out the light fire. "Show me."
He followed the swat into the natural exhibit, and -damn, it was a mess. Broken glasses laid on the floor beneath the broken display boxes. One
pedestal at the center has a missing display, and the other has another display missing too.
Duncan wondered if the dinosaur fossil came from the nature exhibit. If so, how the hell did the trespassers moved it?
You could be reading stolen content. Head to the original site for the genuine story.
It couldn't just walk out of the room by itself. Right?
Duncan quivered at the thought of seeing a moving fossil dinosaur roaming the museum. It would be too terrifying to witness sought horror. Still, Duncan has to focus on the crime scene.
"Chief!" Roger dashed toward Duncan and stopped as he placed his hands on his knees, breathing hard.
"Where the hell were you?" Duncan demanded. "I have been trying to call you since we arrived."
Roger rose after catching his breath. "Sorry….. My phone was on silent."
"Why the hell would you keep your phone on silent?"
"In case I go to a movie?"
"Movie?"
Roger shook his head. "Never mind. What happened here?"
Duncan looked around with his hands on his hips. "A group of jokers broke in, I guess. They destroyed the dinosaur display and trashed the entire nature exhibit."
Roger stared at the messes. "Oh!"
Duncan pointed his thumb at the back. "Another display over there has a missing artifact from Greece?"
"Greece?"
Duncan pulled out a stick of gum and placed it into his mouth. He chewed casually. "Yeah, it's new. I saw it on the news yesterday. Nobody was sure what it is. Some kind of statue, I think. Probably from an ancient ruin at the bottom of the sea."
Roger stared at the pedestal and back to the chief. "Well, I am not a museum type of guy, but you think somebody stole it?"
Duncan crossed his arms. "You tell me. The artifact is the only thing missing here. Nobody would be too stupid enough to break in and vandalize the place. Even my kids wouldn't pull a stupid stunt like this."
Roger nodded. "I agree, sir."
Duncan beamed his eyes. "Why are you late coming here, Roger? I thought you had other matters to deal with?"
"Oh….. I did! When I heard what is going on here, I came by to see if I can help."
Duncan shrugged. "I got enough help here already. Why don't you head back home and rest? I'm sure you are still shaking over Spencer's death."
Roger sniffed. "Yes, sir."
Duncan smiled and placed his hand on Roger's shoulder. "I can tell Spencer's family if you don't mind. It might be easier if you need not keep carrying the burden to tell them yourself."
Roger sighed. "Thanks, sir. It will help me rest peacefully."
"Yeah, you better rest peacefully. Tomorrow I need you back on the street to check what is disturbing the people. I can also find you a new partner if you-"
Roger held up his hand. "No thanks, sir. I can do this on my own for now. But I will inform you when I feel ready to work with someone new."
Duncan padded Roger's shoulder. "Very well then. Have a good night."
"You too." Roger turned around and strolled toward the broken entrance.
Duncan turned his attention back to the pedestal display. Who would want to steal a newly discovered relic? Was it that valuable?
