Book Five: Chapter 4

Book Five: Chapter 4

Roger carefully maneuvered the police truck into the railroad yard, avoiding the empty freight trains sitting on the rails. The only thing that could be heard was the wind whistling through the metal railway cars. The Cerberus women looked around for any signs of trouble.

Roger and his partner knew something was awry as soon as they stepped out of the truck. The ground was littered with shattered glass and rubbish, and the security office was a mess. The door was open, and inside they discovered the guards' lifeless bodies on the floor.

Katina's nostrils twitched as she detected the odor of sulfur and black magic. She hissed, warning the others that danger was nigh. They moved gingerly between the trains, keeping low and their eyes open for any activity.

It didn't take them long to notice the suspicious workers loading crates from freight trains.

The suspicious heavily armed males have a gruff and strong appearance, with tattoos covering their enormous biceps and necks. They dress in leather jackets and pants, with greasy, untidy hair slicked back. Their scarred faces and cold, menacing eyes.

They wield weapons ranging from baseball bats to rifles and move with the speed and ferocity of skilled combatants.

When the men saw the police officers, they immediately pulled out their weapons and charged.

Roger pulled his weapon and shot, his aim dead on as he dispatched one of the guys. His heart was hammering as he shot his revolver, killing one of the heavily armed guys. The man dropped to the ground with a thump, but the others were unfazed and continued their assault on the cops. Roger ducked behind a railroad car, trying to gather his breath while firing rounds hoping to take out more of the attackers.

Meanwhile, the Cerberus women sprang into action, their powerful jaws and sharp claws dispatching the remaining thugs with ease. Katina, Labda, and Cilla moved with a grace and agility that belied their fearsome look, bringing down the attackers with a ferocity that left no doubt about their devotion to Roger and their determination to keep New Olympus City safe.

Roger reached the crates they were loading as the last of the assailants fell. As he pried open one of them, he could feel his heart racing as he discovered a stash of weapons and illegal drugs. The Cerberus women hissed, knowing that whoever was in charge of this mission was deadly and had to be stopped.

"We need to report this to Rosetta," Labda remarked, her eyes still shining from the fight's adrenaline. "This is much bigger than just a few thugs stealing from freight trains."

Roger nodded, his mind racing over what they had just found.

As the officers examined the crates, a figure emerged from the shadows. Roger's hand immediately grabbed for his pistol as the three-headed chimera neared.

The chimera was a monster humanoid with three heads - a goat, a lion, and a dragon - with a scaled and fur-covered body. Each of their heads was larger than a human and brimming with razor-sharp fangs their features curled horns that spiral out from the goat's head and a long snout that terminates in a set of pointed fangs on the dragon’s head. The lion head has a powerful golden mane and piercing blue eyes that appear to shine with inner fire.

The chimera's mini-gun sparkled in the light, and the sound of their growls and snarls filled the air as they neared. They exhaled a strong, fetid stench of rotting meat and sulfur. Their scales and fur ruffle in the breeze, and their clawed feet dug deep gouges in the ground.

Despite their intimidating appearance, Roger stood firm, his pistol aiming at the chimera's head. His heart was racing in his chest, but he refused to show any signs of panic. Katina, Labda, and Cilla are also poised, their muscles stiff and their jaws gaping.

"Callum, what exactly are you doing here?" Labda demanded, her voice firm and steady.

"You know them?" Roger spoke in hushed tones.

"Him. We heard criminal organizations hired him to smuggle illegal magical artifacts through cities," explained Cilla. "This must be one of his top-secret operations."

"And you've never told me that before?"

"Oh, sweetie, we had no idea he'd be here under our noses."

The chimeras' heads turned toward the Cerberus and growled together. "None of your business, cop," the goat head muttered in a low, guttural voice.

"Perhaps you've come here to get your ass whooped," Katina teased.

The chimera's lion head roared and advanced on the group. "I don't answer to you," he said, his voice booming and bouncing off the train yard's walls. "I only answer to myself."

The chimera opened fire with its mini-gun, releasing a hail of bullets on the group. Roger, Katina, Labda, and Cilla dove for cover, narrowly avoiding being shot. As Callum continued to fire, the chimera cackled with joy, its three heads snarling and snapping.

The chimera surged forward, his gigantic body barreling at them like a freight train, as the group regroups and prepares to execute a counter-attack.

Roger directed the Cerberus to flank the chimera hoping to catch him off guard.

As the Cerberus charged towards Callum, he turned his attention towards them, unleashing a hail of bullets. The Cerberus swirled and dodged, their agile bodies allowing them to avoid the majority of the gunfire. They lunged for Callum, their huge jaws and keen claws poised to strike.

Roger drew his pistol and formed a circle around the chimera. He took aim and fired, the bullet landing in Callum's shoulder. The chimera shouted in agony, yet he didn't fall. Instead, he swung the mini-gun at Roger, letting loose a hail of shots.

The gunshots ricocheted off the metal as Roger dove behind a railroad car. He realized he had to devise a strategy, or they'd be sitting ducks for Callum's weapons. He hastily searched the area for anything that may be used as a weapon.

While the Cerberus was still fighting Callum, Roger noticed a metal pipe lying on the ground. He grabbed it and used it to deflect shots as he moved closer to the chimera. He swung the pipe at one of Callum's heads when he was close enough, catching him off guard.

The chimera staggered backward and dropped the mini-gun. Roger swooped down on him, knocking Callum to the ground. As the Cerberus pinned the chimera down, their snarls and growls filled the air.

As Roger handcuffed Callum, relief washed over him as the fight ended. He peered over at the Cerberus, their bodies covered in battle with bruises and scratches. He knew they were tough, but he was worried about their safety.

"Are you okay?" he said, his voice concerned. "You've taken quite a beating."

The Cerberus panted, their tongues lolling out of their jaws. They were exhausted and sore, but they were also pleased with themselves. They'd apprehended a dangerous criminal, and they'd done it together.

Roger couldn't ignore the uneasy feeling in his stomach when Katina, Labda, and Cilla cuffed Callum. He was aware that the chimera smuggler was dangerous, but this revelation was extraordinary.

Roger approached the cargo truck and opened the back door. The toxic odor hit him strongly, and he had to shield his nose to avoid gagging.

He discovered a big glass tank filled with a murky liquid inside. He spotted the outline of a body floating in the tank as he approached.

He first thought it was a mermaid, but upon closer inspection, he discovered it was a beautiful woman with bird-like wings. She was entirely naked and floated in the liquid with her eyes closed.

"What in the hell is this?" Roger murmured, his gaze fixed on the bizarre sight before him.

The Cerberus ladies approached him, glancing back at the tank.

"Is that an angel?" Cilla inquired, barely above a whisper.

As she got closer, Labda's eyes widened. "I've heard rumors about this kind of thing," she admitted. “It's known as a Seraphim. They're meant to be divine beings, the most beautiful creatures from the heavens.”

Roger was taken aback. He'd heard about angels before, but never imagined seeing one in person, let alone in a glass tank on the back of a cargo truck.

"We need to get her out of there," Katina added firmly. "She could be in danger."

Roger nodded, and they carefully lifted the tank out of the vehicle jointly. They gently placed it on the ground, and Roger broke the glass with a hammer.

The Seraphim's body flopped out of the tank, while the contents flowed onto the ground. Roger hurriedly took a blanket from the truck and put it around her to keep her warm.

Labda grimaced as he caressed the angel's neck. "She's... gone."

Roger's expression darkened with disappointment. Why was Callum bringing a Seraphim corpse into the city?
