Chapter 612:
She glanced at the house again, her eyes betraying a flicker of admiration before she shut it down. No matter how impressive the villa looked, it wasn’t hers. Instead, a quiet resentment began to stir within her. She couldn’t help but wonder if Darrel and Allison had bribed their way past the staff here, but after observing their movements carefully, she could find no evidence of it.
Lindy turned to Melany, her voice laced with uncertainty. “What do you think Allison’s planning?”
Melany hesitated, thinking it over, then gave Lindy a look. “Maybe you should go check it out,” she suggested.
“Alright,” Lindy slightly nodded.
Melany was in her disheveled state. The elegance of the villa only emphasized how out of sync she felt. She was used to waiting, watching for the right moment to strike — but today, patience seemed like a luxury she couldn’t afford.
With a forced sigh, she feigned confusion. “Allison, are you joking? This is just a villa. Maybe anyone could open it if they know the code, right?”
The stylish young man who had explained things earlier chuckled darkly, his disdain obvious. “Why don’t you give it a try?” he challenged, clearly enjoying the prospect of her failure. “This villa has infrared sensors in every nook and cranny.”
People who knew a thing or two started discussing it. “Without the owner’s permission, just stepping into the manager’s area sets off the alarm across the whole Sunset Hill!” “Not to mention, the password doors are old…”
The whispers only grew louder. “This is big news,” another added. “We’re talking about iris scanning now. No way to cheat that!”
“I’ve never seen anyone get past this villa’s security.”
The rumors swirled, and Melany stood there, her face burning with humiliation. In that moment, she felt like a total fool, clueless about everything.
She forced herself to speak through clenched teeth. “These are just rumors. Who knows what could have changed over the years?”
Seeing Melany’s stubbornness, Allison rested her chin on her hand and smiled. “Miss Johnson, if you’re so skeptical, why not give it a try?”
The crowd’s eyes shifted to Melany at her words, eager for a show.
As soon as Allison stepped up to her, the crowd instantly started buzzing.
“Yeah, give it a shot!” someone called out.noveldrama
“It won’t hurt to try. We’d love to see if Miss Johnson can prove it’s all a lie.”
“I would love to see what the device and the intruder alert look like.”
Nobody had seen the villa open in over ten years.
Melany’s stomach twisted. She felt cornered, as if she had no choice but to play along. Realizing it was too late, she squared her shoulders and walked forward.
“Fine! I’ll go. I’ve never seen it anyway.”
She walked toward the door, stopping in front of the scanner. It didn’t look particularly impressive. Allison could just be putting on a show, Melany thought, certain the villa had been tampered with somehow.
