Chapter 536:
“Something feels off. Why does this game seem more rigged than a carnival? No one ever flips the wrong card!”
“I’m getting the same vibe… But even if there’s something fishy going on, it can’t be a total draw, right? Amor and Scarlet Snake are in a fierce competition.”
Most of the chatter circled around the notion of cheating. Amor’s expression soured further, her focus zeroed in on Allison as if the world around her had faded away. How had that woman seen through the cards?
Amor was aware that the cards had been tampered with, but how had Allison managed to figure it out?
The thought made Amor gasp. Could Allison have stumbled onto the secret?
Impossible. No one had ever unraveled the truth about those cards.
While Amor spiraled into her thoughts, Melany, blissfully unaware of the mounting tension, piped up, “Amor, which cards should I flip next? Just point me in the right direction, and I’ll memorize them!”
“You fool. If you screw this up again, you’ll be in hot water,” Amor snapped, her patience fraying with each word.
“I swear I’ll get it right this time,” Melany replied, anxiety twisting her stomach as she prepared to flip the cards. But she was trapped; she had to push forward.
According to the rules, she could only seek guidance from her partner at the start of each flip.
Melany steeled herself to remember Amor’s instructions, yet with each passing moment, her nerves turned her mind to mush. “Seven of Hearts… Hearts… Wait! Why am I seeing the Seven of Spades?!”
Melany muttered to herself, inadvertently flipping over the wrong card.
Seeing the mismatched cards made her face drain of color.noveldrama
“I’m sorry, I messed that up. Can I try again?” Melany begged the dealer, clutching at hope for a second chance. “I’m new at this, and my hands just slipped… I didn’t know the rules so well…” But in a casino, there’s no room for indulgence.
Her plea drew scorn from nearly everyone around.
“That’s rich! She loses and now she wants a do-over?”
“If you could just redo flips in a game, this place would go belly up!”
“What a joke — she’s just wasting Amor’s time!”
In the world of gambling, the greatest sin is to be unable to cope with loss.
Naturally, the dealer denied her unreasonable request. “Sorry, that’s against the rules.”
Melany returned to Amor’s side, her expression stiff as a board. “Amor… I swear I didn’t mean it!”
Just as Melany was about to squeeze out some tears to apologize, Allison cut in. “Oh my, how did you manage to flip the wrong card?”
Allison’s tone was laced with feigned surprise as she pointed at a card in the southeast. “Did you see wrong? This one is the Seven of Hearts.” Her finger landed precisely on the marked card, exposing Melany’s blunder.
