Regan was puzzled, "If you don't want anything from him, why go looking for him?"
Nathalie's face was pale, almost ghostly, as she replied softly, "Honestly, I don't even know why I went looking for him. Maybe I was trying to fill a gap from my childhood."
Back in school, she never had parents show up for parent-teacher meetings. Her classmates whispered behind her back, calling her a stray, isolating her, and even ganging up on her. It was then she began to crave a father's love.
Later, when Patrick tumbled from his high-and-mighty CEO position to a hypocrite to save his daughter Greta, Nathalie, even though she despised Patrick for his deceit, envied Greta. She wished she had a father who would move mountains for her.
Having a dad would be so wonderful.
Regan didn't sugarcoat it, "I'm not gonna lie; you are indeed part of the Stewart family bloodline. But you're just an illegitimate daughter. The Stewart family doesn't plan on acknowledging you." Nathalie felt a chill run through her veins.
In that instant, her world came crashing down, and she wanted nothing more than to scream out her pain. Yet, she fought to keep the last shred of her dignity, smiling brilliantly, "An illegitimate daughter, huh?" "Is that my fault?" she challenged, lifting her chin to meet Regan's gaze, "It's your Stewart family who couldn't keep their desires in check, causing scandals and then cowardly running away from them."
"I can't choose how I was born, but I can choose whether or not to accept a father who's spineless and irresponsible."
"And right now, I'm telling you, I don't accept him."
Nathalie removed her bracelet and tossed it high into the air.
It hit the ground, shattering into pieces.
Without a backward glance, Nathalie walked away.
Lizzy's eyes welled up with tears as she watched Nathalie turn her back.
Regan slumped into his chair, exhausted.
Once Nathalie was gone, Ashley came in.
"Grandpa," she called softly.
Regan's earlier bravado was gone, his head hung low, "Did you hear all of that?"
Ashley nodded, "Yeah, I heard everything."
Curious, she asked, "Grandpa, she's my sister, right?"
Regan closed his eyes and sighed, "Let's keep this from your dad."
Ashley questioned, "Why?"

Regan assured, "She's alone; she can't do much harm."
Ashley let out a breath of relief, "True, she really can't stir up much trouble on her own."
Then she remembered, "But what about Nathan with her?"
Regan chuckled, "Nathan's under control too..."
He nodded towards Ashley.
Ashley smirked, "Exactly."
After leaving the Stewart family, Nathalie climbed into her car and finally let the tears flow, burying her face in her hands.
"Don't cry," Lizzy said softly, her voice filled with sorrow and helplessness as she awkwardly tried to comfort Nathalie.
Nathalie's heart ached so much.
She had always dreamed of finding her real father, but finding him turned out to be worse than not finding him at all.
