Maurice shook his head slightly. He regarded Seth no different from the rest, so the latter's words appeared rather ridiculous. For this reason, he seemed to have disdained Seth even more. But with that said, Maurice was quite interested in the person who had brought them medical literature. So, he said, "Buddy, let him in, quick. He might have another valuable medical literature." Seth then yelled at the door, "Come in!"
The door creaked as it opened, and Felix entered the office. Once he spotted Seth, he took a cigarette out and stepped forward to offer one to him. "Have a cig, Mr. Mitchell."
Felix had a high regard for sophisticated and knowledgeable individuals. Since he considered Seth as such, he treated Seth with the utmost respect.
Seth accepted the cigarette and frowned as he said, "I'm not a reporter but an editor. I've already told you before, so why can't you remember that?"
Immediately, Felix apologized, "I'm sorry. I'm truly sorry. I'm not that knowledgeable, so I can't tell the difference between a reporter and an editor."
Seth then threw the cigarette on the table and said, "You must have brought a new book, right? Take it out and let us have a look. I'll make sure you'll be satisfied with the pay if it's one of the books on the list!"
At that, Felix replied with a hint of embarrassment, "About that... I'm not here to sell any books today. Do you remember the book I sold you the last time? The seller wants it back."
The moment Seth heard the words "wants it back", his expression took a turn and hardened coldly. "You already sold the book to me, so it's mine now! Just leave if that's what you want. I haven't got time to waste with you!" However, Felix shook his head and persisted. "I'm not leaving. I must get that book back!"
Seth proceeded to sneer. It was all thanks to this book that he received his green card. There was no way he'd let Felix have it back.
"You better stop messing around! I won't give it to you!" Seth said.
Upon hearing that, Felix became a little anxious. "I'm not here to take it. I'm buying it. Name your price. How much do you want?"
Seth sneered yet again. "You think you can buy me off with money? Why don't you take a look at what you do for a living? You're merely a junk collector, so what right do you have to pull this move on me? Get lost!" Felix's expression darkened, and he felt that there was a need for him to reveal the truth behind his actions.
He believed that every descendant of Jenson Kane would definitely sell the book to him after hearing him out.
So, he said, "To tell you the truth, the Eastorians are after this book. They want to buy it and steal our traditional medicine!"
Upon hearing that, Seth's expression stiffened a little, and he turned to look at Maurice, who displayed a trace of murderous intent.
Maurice never thought that Felix had discovered his intentions! He briefly took a glance at Felix's neck as he put his hand on the short blade hanging by his waist.
However, he held back on his impulsive thoughts and waved at Seth. "Buddy, see him out!"
Seth then stood up and chided Felix. "Screw off now! What do you mean by the Eastorians are trying to steal our traditional medicine? Why don't you take a good look at what
traditional medicine has at
"Besides, we're all peacefully living together as neighboring countries. So what if they want to buy the medical literature? Wouldn't it just promote both our country's interaction and exchange?" As he spoke, he began to chase Felix out. However, Felix became upset when he heard that and said, "How... How can you say that? The Eastorians have always possessed wild ambitions..." After he said that, Felix paused and turned to Maurice. Then, he pointed at Maurice and frowned as he recalled the latter's words.
Following that, Felix exclaimed, "What did you call Mr. Mitchell earlier? Did you call him Buddy? You... You're an Eastorian, aren't you?"
In an instant, Maurice's expression darkened. "Get him out!"
Seth was shocked as well.
Maurice's identity was actually no secret. Because of how popular e-books had gotten, the publication of physical books had been
declining, and people who published books were getting fewer as well.
Many of the publishers were barely staying afloat, and it was the same for them. However, because Maurice had invested in several comic book collections, their publisher managed to get by just fine.
Maurice was known to be a
bookseller, and though he was
collecting medical literatures, he hadnoveldrama
once told Seth that he could only use his identity as a bookseller to collect medical literatures. As such, they couldn't expose Maurice's true identity, or disaster might ensue.
Now, Maurice's facade was torn off. He became a little anxious as he stood up and pushed Felix out the door.
"Screw off! Otherwise, don't blame me for being rude."
Felix was furious. "Why are you pushing me?"
