Renae would rather die alongside Matthew than get sold off by Sandra for the second time...
Sandra's face turned pallid upon hearing her response. She watched as her daughter cried and wondered if she could still try and explain herself.
"I'm not selling you off... That's just a wedding gift... You know the rules! Everyone in town..."
Renae couldn't bear to hear another word. They were now living in modern society, and even the villagers would consider their daughter's opinions before they discussed the wedding gifts. But Sandra had never once asked Renae nor took her feelings into consideration.
She interrupted Sandra and sobbed. "Mom, stop explaining already. Please! Just head off quickly, or you won't be able to escape when those people come for the medical literature!" Immediately after Sandra heard of the dangers, she was extremely scared and stopped talking. Then, she turned to leave with Donna in a panic.
Once both Donna and Sandra were out of the courtyard, Donna expressed her dissatisfaction. "Mom, even farmers who rear cows and cattles would quote a price worthy of their efforts.
"So, you're not wrong for insisting on a larger amount as her wedding gift. You worked so hard to raise her, after all."noveldrama
However, Sandra only went on bitterly. "But Renae cried."
Donna then frowned and said, "Mom, crying is considered a woman's greatest weapon, so don't fall for her act. You have to think about it. We'd get rich if we received a wedding gift of 500 thousand dollars. "Besides, she'll be a part of her husband's family once she's married. If I have to take care of you alongside Stephen, we'll need money from the wedding gift. It can be your pension as well.
"You have to think of another way to ask for a bigger amount! There aren't any other shops besides the one in this town!"
The two chatted as they walked further and further away.
Inside the junk yard, Matthew put the Scholarly Tradition into the inner pocket of his clothes. He noticed Dominic and his group of men standing upright in neat rows as they looked at him. Matthew couldn't help but to knit his brows together, "You guys... What are your plans?"
The Wood family would be sending over 100 people to kill him, but Brad had only sent more than ten people, so the power difference was far too obvious. He couldn't understand why Brad would send them over. But Dominic was very confident and replied, "Mr. Grant, we will guarantee your safety, so you don't have to worry with us here!"
Matthew took a few glances at Dominic before he asked, "Really?"
Though Dominic was the cream of the crop, Matthew didn't think that he'd be able to handle the Wood family when it was 100 against ten.
Dominic patted onto his chest and introduced himself. "I'm a Major, and I'm currently serving in the military. My father was a Brigadier General, and my grandfather...
"Let's not talk about my grandfather, but I never once relied on them to get to where I am now. It was all my hard work and effort."
Matthew raised a brow as he
listened to Dominic speak. He didn't expect him to come from a wealthy second-generation family. Since that was the case, Matthew couldn't help but take Dominic's words with a grain of salt.
He then looked behind Dominic as the latter continued to point and introduce the people behind him. "AH of the people behind me aren't normal soldiers. This is Lucien Mackenzie, a Captain, and once the captain of the regular army belongs to
"His father... Never mind that... Let's not mention that. He swore not to rely on his family connections and secretly joined the army without his family's knowledge. So, he relied on his own efforts to get to where he is today."
"This is Leo Norris. He's also a Captain, and the vice captain of the regular army... Also this is...
"Although I've only brought around ten people, we have the might of an entire squad. We can guarantee an overwhelming victory even if we're facing more than 100 people." They were all military officers, and Matthew frowned. He had lost even more hope in this group of men. Again, he couldn't understand why Brad had sent them over. "Did... Mr. Miles send you here?"
Dominic then pointed at his own head and said, "Mr. Miles didn't seem to have prepared anyone to send over, so I figured it out on my own.
"Military achievements are earned through the number of enemy casualties. Considering how we're living in a peaceful era, opportunities like these are hard to come by. "Initially... I considered this mission beneath me, but I still came! You should feel lucky that we're protecting you
