The Guardian and the Key: Prologue

A ship flies across the reaches of space, it's crew navigating it's way towards a much needed destination. Aboard this vessel is the one thing the universe needs, and that thing is being brought towards a fair planet in the center of the universe. On that planet lies another being that will be it's caretaker, which has been described as in prophecy.

The pilot of this ship, an adult male with black hair that is starting to white, is piloting the ship with the assistance of his co-pilot, a man named Huro. The pilot turns towards Huro, saying “Ship thruster's at one-hundred percent power. Any readings on enemy ships?”

Huro examines the ship's radar, and notices that there are no ships, friendly or otherwise, drawing close. “That's a negative, ship-commander. Continue towards destination.”

As such, the ship continues through the endless expanse, encountering no obstacles in it's path.

Entering the solar system that they desired upon, the door to the bridge opens, with a person dressed completely in high-tech armor walking forward. Looking forward through the bridge's window, they say past the visor of their helmet “I need a report. Chiot. June's getting antsy, and the sooner we get there, the better.”

“We just entered the solar system. It won't take much longer before we are there. We'll be there before we know it, so tell the kid to be calm.” Chiot, the ship-commander, states back to the person in the armor. To which they give a stiff nod and exit the bridge, the door shutting behind them

Huro says to Chiot “She's pretty authoritative, don't you think?” without looking away from his navigation equipment.

“Make's sense for her position. Kid, you've got to understand that she has one of the most important jobs in the universe. She's got to take care of June, which kind of make's her a mother figure to her.” Chiot says, adjusting the power of the engine slightly as they drift through space.

“It must be horrible for June. She lost so much, from what I understand.” Huro ponders.

“It ain't our job to worry about how she feels, Kid. That's Sherah's job. But in the end, it's going be the Key who results in all of this finally ending.” Chiot muses back.

“I see that you're not feeling very much humility today, Chiot.” Huro says with a slight chuckle.

“Yeah, whatever Kid. I don't need much humility in my line of work. Besides, after everything that's been happening in this universe for the past who knows how long, I don't think there's much humanity left in most people.” Chiot states back, viewing the space outside of the ship.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

“Yet that's still what keeps us going. It's what make's us so much different than those that we face. If we lose our humility, than our enemies have gotten what they wanted. We must never lose hold of what make's us human, Chiot. If we do, then we are no better than they are.” Huro says inquisitively.

Chiot remains quiet for a short while, thinking over what Huro just said, speaking up a bit later “You might be right about that, Kid. You just might be right.”

The door of the bridge opens again, with a teenager in engineer's gear walking onto the bridge. She has a look of anger on her face. “Chiot, what do you think you're doing with the engine!? If you push it even a little bit further it's going to blow! And do you know what will happen then? We're going to have to wait for a UMA ship to come and fix it or I'll have to go fix the damn thing myself, that's what!? During all of that we're going to have Demu ships closing in on our position the entire time! Do you know how much danger you are putting us in!?”

Looking down at the gauge for the ship's thrusters, Chiot just then notices that he's been increasing it's power this entire time. He immediately pulls back, now knowing the danger he is putting his crew in. “Sorry about that, Kid. Didn't notice what I was doing. It won't happen again.”

“It better not! Now if you'll excuse me, I need to activate the coolant in the engine so that it won't overheat.” she says before exiting the bridge, slamming the door behind her.

Huro mumbles to Chiot after the teenage girl has left “You and her have a history, Chiot?”

“We've got a history, but not a bad one. I've known her since she joined the UMA, and I can tell ya that she's really damn defensive of her machines. Hell, you should see the mini-gun that she built. Thing's an artwork of firepower.”

Huro mumbles something to himself about engineers and their machines before going back to his equipment.

A few minutes go by with nothing out of the ordinary happening. That is until Huro picks up something on the radar. Something big.

He looks over at Chiot, saying “We've got something large drawing close. It'll be on us in T-minus 3 minutes. What do you advise, ship-commander.”

“We make a bee-line for the target planet. Put all strength on thrusters. Set the ship on high-alert, except for June's room. We don't want to have her freaking out. And send out a beacon for UMA support. Once we get down to Pontractus Numerus, they're probably going to be following us down. We'll need an escort around or an evac, depending on how soon we find him.”

“Aye-aye, ship-commander.” Huro begins putting in the requested commands. Ending with the ship going on full-alert.

Putting all force on thrusters, the ship flies in a straight line towards it's target. The enemy ship is drawing ever closer every second. About a few thousand kilometers from being drawn into the gravitational pull of the planet, the ship begins being fired upon by the enemy ship.

Despite Chiot's evasive maneuvers, the ship gets hit moments before entering the gravitational pull. Huro yells to Chiot “We've taken a hit to the engine port! We're losing fuel and power by the second!

Cussing, Chiot screams “I guess we're not making a pretty entrance! Get ready for a crash-landing!” before putting full strength into the thrusters, draining it of all of it's power and fuel in one go.

They blast straight into the gravitational pull of Pontractus Numerus with what little power they have remaining. The enemy ship stops the pursuit as the other ship flies into the gravity of the planet.

The ship crashes into Pontractus Numerus, and as one boy witnesses it, it changes the life of that ordinary child forever....
