Sentient Society: Chapter 2, Conclusion

The sun rises on the city of Ignama and the Unimori High School. All of the four companions, Raphael, June, Miyra and Quib, all stand on a rooftop overlooking the courtyard of Unimori. Raphael, the cloaked figure on the center left, sighs as he observes the courtyard. “This is it...” he says as the rest of his compatriots stare intently at the school's center “This is the day where it all starts. Above all else, we must protect Lera and ensure her safety today.... We're going to move out in a few moments, so everyone gather their bearings and prepare for a fight, all be it a small one....”

As Raphael speaks, he notices a figure moving out from behind the boy's dormitory into the center of the courtyard. It takes Raphael but a moment to recognize the figure as Boz. He moves over to one of the benches and sits down before taking out a cell phone and calling someone through the speed dial.

Raphael let's out a worried “Hmm” as he observes Boz. On a hunch, he decides to call up his communication officer. “Yen,” he says into the microphone on his glasses. “Boz is making a call in the center of the Unimori courtyard. I have a feeling that I need to listen in on this, so can you hack into the conversation and set send it to my comm glasses?”

A clearly female voice comes in over his glasses, speaking quickly as she types into her keyboard “Of course, Commander. Just give me a moment to triangulate the signal and hack into the call....”

After a brief silence, a voice comes in over Raphael's glasses. As a second precaution, Yen also sent the feed to the rest of the group, just so that everyone is on the same level. The first voice to speak is masculine, but with a hint of sincerity, which Raphael immediately recognizes as Boz. The second voice is uppity and feminine, with a touch of bravery heard through her lips, which would be Lera.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Hey Lera, I was wondering if you wanted to go out to eat today after class. I heard that a new french restaurant just opened in the market district and I thought that it would be a good place to go for our first date.”

“Oh, hey Boz... listen, I don't think that this is going to work out....”

“You don't like french food, I take it? Alright, that's cool, we'll go somewhere else.”

“No Boz, you don't understand. I mean us going out. That's just not going to work out. I just have a really bad feeling about this and I think it will jeopardize our friendship.”

“... But you said that you wanted to yester-”

“Yes, I know what I said, but I just changed my mind. I wish I could tell you why, but I don't know why myself....”

“Please Lera, I don't want us to just be friends. I love you Lera, and it took me a long time to figure that out. Please don't do this to me....”

“... I'm sorry Boz... goodbye....” and then a click is heard, ending the call.

Raphael's hand drifts from his glasses back down to his side as the realization of this event strikes him. “Oh my god, it's my fault....” he whispers to himself as he looks at Boz, who is now shivering from a rejection from the only person he will ever love.

A sudden beeping from Raphael's wrist alerts him. He raises his wrist and notices that it is now eight o' clock, five minutes away from Lera's death. His eyes widen, the entire operation falling to pieces in front of his eyes....
