Sentient Society: Chapter 19

Boz and Lera are sitting on a bench at Ignama park, and they are both huddled together, keeping warm. Lera has her head resting on Boz's shoulder, with Boz looking off into the distance. He sees a man sitting in the center of the park along with another two men. There is something about them that doesn't sit well with him. Something about their posture and how they move seems to be off.

He turns his head to look at Lera and sees that she has fallen asleep. He ponders to himself about what his life would be like right now if Raphael's team hadn't jumped in. He wouldn't be able to survive without her, he knows.

He lowers Lera to the bench as he gets up from his seat and then looks back up at the group of three he was watching earlier. Upon closer inspection, he notices what he hoped wasn't true. Sigil heads.

Despite Sin's explicit instructions to the JB, June had decided that it would be better to bring in more versatile weapons. Along with the wooden bonki that June had delivered for Boz, she also gave him a collapsible police baton, which she told him after delivering it to always carry it with him.

Seeing his enemies, and knowing that Raphael's group has also been hard at work clearing as many of them out as possible, Boz reaches behind his back and pulls out the baton that June had given him. Slowly and quietly, Boz draws closer, hoping to catch them by surprise.

Out of the corner of his eye, he sees a girl with red hair walking towards the Sigil heads. Boz, however, doesn't see the girl draw a sky eagle from the back of her waist.

Two things happen that catch Boz off-guard. The first is the deafening sound of a sky eagle being fired and it's bullet striking through the torso of one of the Sigil heads. The second thing that surprises him is once he turns his head to look at the red haired girl, he sees sparks coming out of her wrist and smoke bursts out around her.

He has a surprised expression on his face and barely notices one of the remaining Sigil heads turning to look at him. He catches a glimpse of the girl after the smoke has cleared, but only a glimpse that he barely gives any thought to, given a Sigil head is running towards him.

The Sigil head swings it's claw overhead at Boz, but he quickly dodges to the Sigil heads right side. Before the Sigil head can react, Boz slams his baton into the back of the Sigil head's neck, the force of the blow making the Sigil head fall straight to the ground. The Sigil head attempts to get up from the injury, but before it can, Boz smashes his baton into the side of his head. The force of Boz's strike is so strong that it shatters the Sigil head's skull.

“Feral bastards...!” Boz says, not even out of breath. He then turns to see Miyra, no decoy device being used, jam her sky eagle into the remaining Sigil head's rune sign and pull the trigger.

Before Miyra can bolt back to base to get another decoy device, Boz screams out her name. She turns and looks at him, the look on her face showing her level of understanding about the current situation.

“What. The hell. Is that. Miyra...?” Lera says, coming to Boz's side in complete shock. She doesn't care about the bloody scene, she's seen enough of these by this point to have adapted to it. What she is concerned about, however, is the fact that they are now looking at a cartoon version of Miyra Sinnt.

Miyra, stunned to see Boz and Lera here and not exactly sure how to remedy the situation, stands rooted in the ground for a few seconds. She shakes her head and then holsters her sky eagle. She pulls out a tinkering tool and pops open her decoy device on her left wrist. After reassembling a few wires and rerouting them, Miyra shuts the decoy device closed and turns it back on. She then gets enveloped in smoke again, and when the smoke dissipates, Miyra looks like an average girl again, at least in Boz and Lera's eyes.

She looks towards Boz and Lera again, walks over to them, grabs Boz by the arm and starts walking out of the park with Lera following close behind. “I guess I have no choice now but to tell you everything, don't I?” Miyra states.

About a half an hour later and they are in a back alley that nobody goes into, and Miyra knows it. Miyra sighs as she crosses her arms with her eyes shut. “Well, I guess I have some explaining to do! Now before you say anything, let me answer your questions, since I have an idea about what you want to ask. First off, the organization that me and Raphael work for was just created a few months ago. Raphael isn't just the leader of the team, but he's also the leader of the entire organization. He has the powers of the Guardian, which is a being that has been specially chosen by the God of Many to protect the universe and a person known as 'The Key'. The Key and the Guardian have a lot to do with a war that we are hoping will never come to your lives, so I won't get into that.”

Miyra opens her eyes. “What I will tell you is that me, Raphael, June, Quib, and everyone else in the organization are an extra-terrestrial to your planet. What you don't know about aliens yet, and this is true for most of your world, is that everyone out of your solar system looks animated in your eyes. That's why I looked like an anime character earlier.”

Miyra continues “I used to work for an alien defensive force a few months ago called the UMA, or the 'Universal Military Alliance', to be exact. They have a lot to do with the war that I told you about earlier, but as I already said, I'm not going to get into that.”

“There is also another organization working underneath of the UMA called the UHG, or the 'Universal Heroes Guild'. The UHG has people in their group called 'Seers'. The Seers can 'see' the happenings of the universe and send them out to other people of the universe via mental links. The people who receive these happenings see them inside of their imaginations as a sort of obsession. They will usually not stop until they get that obsession shown to the other people of his or her planet. In the end, in most cases, that obsession gets turned into a form of media or entertainment, like a TV show, a movie, a book, or a video game, just to name a few examples. What is happening with you guys right now and the Sigil heads is one such sight of the Seers. Raphael, my commander, was actually a big fan of your show, and when he figured out that almost every one of you would have died without his organization's help, a team of four was gathered and set out for your world. Now, any questions?”

Lera and Boz stand motionless as they hear Miyra's explanation. They expected something ridiculous from her since they saw her as an anime character, but they never suspected something like what she had told them. Lera feels so uneasy from what Miyra has told them that she stumbles away and vomits near the entrance of alleyway.

“Holy shit, never expected that...! Are you allowed to tell us any of this?” Boz says, gripping his stomach.

“Nope, so this is just between you two and me.” Miyra says with a smile. “Raphael might let onto it in the long run, so just act surprised when he tells you, okay?”

Before Boz can respond, Miyra gets a message on the pair of glasses in her pocket. She takes them out, puts them on and responds. “Hello? Oh, hey Raph! You need me? No, I'm not busy right now. Sure, I can meet you. Is there anything else you need? No? Alright, I'll see ya soon. Bye.” Miyra ends the call and puts the pair of glasses away. She then looks back up at Lera and Boz and says “I gotta go, but don't tell anybody about what you saw or what you were just told, m'kay?” With her final word, Miyra leaps into the air and lands on top of a building to her left. She then disappears out of sight.

Boz looks over at Lera and says “You alright, I heard you throwing up....”

Lera coughs a few times and then looks up at Boz. “Yeah... I'll be fine.... We should speak with Jian, this Sigil head outbreak is getting out of hand!”

Boz looks over at Lera, his stomach now feeling a little bit better. “We should, because this is getting ridiculous! They're all over the place and who knows when they're going to go after Jian again! Remember when we all got involved in this? Didn't Raphael give Jian a way of contacting him? We need to get back to the dormitories and ask him about it. If he still has it, we need to see if he can contact Raphael and find some way of stopping them together.”

Lera, wiping the remnants of saliva off of her mouth, gives Boz a nod and they start making their way back to the dormitories.

After finding Jian in the center of the courtyard and telling him what they need, the three of them gather up everyone else.

Now the five members of the investigation group are all sitting in Jian's dorm room, or more respectfully, Jian, Boz, and Sin's. The entire room is in a state of tension. Jian, his head held low, begins speaking. “Everyone, what have you all found out about recent events with the Sigil heads...?”

Sin and Carie are both in a state of distress. After what had happened with Carie a week and a half ago, both of them have been distracted, despite Carie having been brought back with no physical issues. Sin sighs after getting his wits about him and then speaks. “I've been hearing news about the Sigil heads left and right. Brazen morning attacks on anyone they see, another attack on the hospital, hell, one of them even nearly killed an infant! We need to do something Jian!”

“That's what this meeting is about, Sin...” Jian says, pulling out a small chest from a nearby cabinet. He opens the lock on the box with a key that he keeps around his neck. He pulls out a small, square, mechanical-looking device that has a big red button at it's center. Encasing the entire top of the box is a glass screen that can be opened through a locking mechanism. “He might have gotten a lead on what to do next, since we haven't seen him in a while. Before I press this button, I want to get a group vote on this! Now keep in mind that this isn't truly an emergency, but we need to do something about the Sigil head's increased aggression and numbers. We'll go clockwise around the room and everyone will say whether they are good with this or not and they will say why. Boz, you're first.”

Boz thinks for a moment with his head low, but then shots it back up a second later. “I vote that we should call Raphael! This Sigil head infestation is getting far out of hand and who knows what they have planned for the tomorrow unless we stop them today! If we can get a hold of Raphael and he knows what they are going to do next, then we can prepare for it and develop a countermeasure!”

Lera, who is sitting next to Boz, nods her head. “I agree with Boz, in both his decision and his argument for it. Raphael, although he has killed a lot of people, is obviously good at obtaining information and acting on it. So whether or not we request his help, he probably will still act on the information he has without us.”

“You know what, I'm going to advance this a bit!” Jian says, putting the contact device on his computer table. “Everyone who wants to contact Raphael, raise your hand!” to which everyone does.

Jian lets out a happy grunt and a smirk. “Well, I guess it's unanimous then, we're calling Raphael.” Jian turns his chair and grabs the contact device off of the table. He clicks the locking mechanism and the glass case opens up. He holds the device in front of everybody and says “Alright... here it goes....” and presses the button.

Back on Earth, or Pontractus Numarus, as it is designated by the UMA, Raphael is wandering the halls of the bunker, looking for Quib. Suddenly, he feels his cell phone vibrate. He takes it out of his pocket and sees on the screen that 'Distress Call 10' has been activated.

He knows what this means immediately upon seeing it. He sprints down the hallway to the armory and calls June simultaneously. As he runs, June answers the call. “Yo Raph, what's up?”

As Raphael rushes into the armory, he says “Distress Call 10 has been activated, do you have visual confirmation on Jian?”

June, who is laying prone on the rooftop of a domestic building and watching Jian and his friends through a pair of binoculars, says “Yup, I have visual confirmation on him!”

Pulling on a Unimori male's uniform and grabbing a longsword off of a shelf, Raphael says to June “Do you see any hostiles in the area?”

June strafes her vision around Unimori's surroundings, but sees nothing. “Um, nope, not a single Sigil head or otherwise. Wonder what they need us for then?”

Raphael stops for a second, but then continues preparing himself. He pulls on a decoy device and activates it before continuing to speak. “Okay, I needed to talk to them anyway. I'll be down in a few seconds, just need to gather up the squad. Any idea where Miyra or Quib might be?”

“Don't worry about them,” June says, putting away her binoculars. “I'll give them a call in a second and tell them to meet you and Jian inside of his dorm room. Any further instructions?”

“Yeah,” Raphael says, walking down the hallway to the portal room. “have them wear Unimori school uniforms and tell them not to wear their cloaks. Have everyone meet down a block to the east of the school premises. If someone is looking in that direction or is nearby, drop down in an alleyway and not in the middle of the street. I'll be down in a second, and please have them wait for me. That is all, over and out!”

About twenty five minutes later, a group of teenagers is walking towards Unimori's front gate, all of them wearing Unimori school uniforms. There is one male in the group, walking in front, with three other females behind him. Sin is looking out the window at this time, and immediately recognizes them. He turns away from the window and tells everyone that Raphael's squad is on the way.

Before long, Raphael is at Jian's doorway. He looks back at the group he has brought with him and says “Alright, ready to go?” with everyone giving him a nod.

With a smile on his face, Raphael turns back to the door of Jian's room, grabs the handle, turns it, and enters the room with everyone following behind.
