Sentient Society: Chapter 21

“It's been three days now.... What the hell is taking them so long...!?”

Sin is standing at the school gates. He is looking straight forward, hoping that Carie or Lera or maybe both of them would show up and ease his worry.

Finally, he lets his shoulders drop, giving up hope of seeing them today. “... Screw it, I'm going for a walk....” he says before going out of the school gates and heading to his left.

Boz sees him from the window of his dorm room and decides that he should go with him, because he knows they all should be careful during this time. Before he leaves his room, he kneels down next to his bed, reaches underneath of it, and pulls out another weapon that he had just received a day ago from Miyra, a collapsible black metal bonkai.

Boz slips it into the back of his waistband, then leaving out of the doorway and following Sin.

Boz follows Sin as he walks slowly down the street of the shanty district. He feels like catching up with him, but he can see from the man's posture that he is worried about something. Wanting to leave the man to his peace, but also curious over what Sin is doing out here, Boz keeps his distance.

Sin goes around a corner as Boz follows after him. When Boz is about to turn the corner, somebody grabs him by his shirt. He is surprised at first, but then gets his wits about him when he sees Sin holding him.

Before Boz can say a word, Sin begins speaking in a deep, angry tone. “... Just why the hell are you following me...!”

“Dude, calm down, I wasn't coming kill you are anything!” Boz says frantically, hoping to dispel Sin's anger. “I just wanted to see what you were doing and that maybe we could talk or something? I was just worried about why you left on your own!”

Sin releases Boz from his grip. “The reason why I left is none of your concern, and you have no right to follow me.” he sighs, collects his thoughts, and then continues “I was taking a walk to clear my mind. Now please, head back to the school. I simply want to be left alone right now.

Before Boz can say a word of refusal, he sees someone behind Sin. He looks over and sees an animated man in gray garbs, with gray skin and red eyes looking at the two of them.

In a flash, the gray man throws his arms up and a ball of black-tinted fire launches towards Boz and Sin.

Boz screams “Look out!” and grabs Sin by his side and throws Sin and himself to the pavement, out of the trajectory of the fireball's path.

Sin watches the fireball go past where he was just moments ago from the ground. He wants to get up, but he can't.

Boz leaps up from his position, draws out his bonkai and rushes the gray-garbed man. Before he can get there, the gray garbed man activates a flamethrower spell in front of Boz. Boz dodges to the side of the flamethrower's arc and is just able to dodge the readjusted trajectory of the flamethrower by sliding under it's new arc. When he is within striking distance of the gray-garbed man, he swings his bonkai at his leg with great strength and speed. The bonkai strikes into the man's leg with enough force that it snaps his shin in two.

As the gray skinned man falls to the ground, Boz leaps up from his position and raises his bonkai above his head for the death blow. The gray skinned man raises his arms in a defensive posture, summoning a shield of fire, but that isn't enough to stop Boz's attack. He slams his bonkai down, breaking through the fire shield and hitting the man in his face, smashing his forehead with a sickening crack.

Boz looks over at Sin and says “You alright ma-” but he cuts himself short when he sees what is nearby.

Surrounding him and Sin on all sides are about fifteen gray-skinned, red-eyed men, all with black, serrated swords. None of them say anything, they just stand and watch.

At this point, Sin is already back on his feet. He grabs his brass knuckles out of his pocket, slides them on, and says “Boz, I think we have a problem....” He backs up until he is at Boz's back and facing away from him, then raising his fists in a defensive fighting posture.

Boz raises his bonkai in a samurai-like fighting posture and says “Who the hell are you people and why the hell are you coming after us!?”

The gray men are quiet, not saying a word. Eventually, a gray man in black chest-plate armor wielding a one-handed, glowing, black metal axe, walks into the circle in between some of the other gray men. “Heh, do not speak like you do not know what is happening in your universe, mortal!” the man's voice is deep and demonic, making Boz cringe a little when he hears it.

“What did we ever do to you!?” Boz says, not sure exactly what is going on.

The man in the chest-plate laughs into the air. “Do you think that I will actually tell you!? You, good ones, will die within just a few moments, so telling you why we are going to kill you is not necessary! Minions! Kill these fools!”

The man in the chest-plate jumps back out of the circle and the other gray men rush towards Boz and Sin.

The first enemy to reach Boz comes at him with a thrust to his abdomen with his black sword. Boz sees the thrust coming and parries the sword to his side. Right after parrying the sword, Boz hits the man's wrist with his bonkai, making him drop his sword, and clubs him across his face with his bonkai.

Realizing that he needs a more vicious weapon, Boz throws his bonkai at another enemy coming to his side, tripping the combatant. He reaches down and quickly picks up the black sword, getting back up in a matter of less then a second, ready to fight again.

The first gray man to reach Sin swings his sword through the air and brings it down vertically on Sin. Sin sees the strike coming and dodges to the side. Before the gray man can react, Sin gut punches the gray man and does a another quick punch to his face, launching him backward and unconscious.

Boz clashes swords with one of the gray men until he gains the upperhand with a gut slash. After that man is disposed of, he sees another one coming up behind him with a sword slash to his left. He quickly turns his attention away from his now dead enemy and blocks the strike. The force at which he blocks the strike makes his enemy's sword recoil backwards, giving him the opportunity to headbutt his enemy and thrust his sword into it's chest before it can recover.

Two gray men rush towards Sin and swing at two different angles, but Sin dodges backwards and delivers a brutal punch to the gray man on the right's temple. The force of the punch is strong enough that it crushes the side of his skull to pieces. Sin hit him with so incredible force that it launches the gray man's head to the side and into the other gray man's head. The force of the impact makes the gray man on the left's brain rupture, killing him along with the other man.

Seeing the gray man in the chest-plate staring down at the two of them outside of the pile, Boz starts carving a path through. One gray man comes up to him on his right, but Boz slices him across the gut before he can attack him. Another comes to the right, but Boz slashes him across the throat. The last one comes at him from the front with a stab, but Boz parries it to the side and stabs him through the chest. Pulling his sword free of his last enemy, Boz stands straight up and points his finger towards the gray man in the chest-plate with his sword resting against his shoulder blade. The man in the chest-plate looks at him and says “So, you wish to face me? Fine! Men, do not worry about this one, I shall take care of him myself!”

After Boz has exited the circle, the remaining gray men surround Sin, who has taken two blows that have drained him and forced him into a kneeling stance, but before they go after him, something within Sin is unleashed....

Suddenly, a powerful aura envelopes around Sin, letting out a powerful gust of wind that nearly launches the gray men surrounding him back and to the ground.

What the gray men see after they rise back up is Sin, standing where he was before, but his eyes are glowing with powerful energy. His fist's are contained within gloves of blue energy, and Sin seems to be in some sort of trance.

One of the gray men runs towards Sin with his sword raised high, but before he can move even two feet, Sin has moved at the speed of light towards him and punches him in the chest with such force that it leaves an imprint of his fist in the man's chest, breaking his bones and crushing his heart.

Another gray man says “Wha...” but before he can finish his sentence, Sin is over to him and punches his fist into his face, leaving another imprint in his head.

“Ru...” before one of the gray men can finish his sentence, Sin is already over to him and has smashed his fist so far through his gut that the other gray men can see Sin's fist almost going out through the man's back.

At this point, the gray men have backed away from Sin in fear. All at once, they sprint away from Sin in opposite directions, but Sin does not chase after them.

The aura surrounding Sin fades away, along with the gauntlets that he had gained. When the aura has dissipated, Sin falls to the ground on his hands and knees, completely exhausted.

The man in the chestplate holds his axe in a combat stance, ready for Boz to attack. Boz, in his own stance, runs towards the man and slashes in parallel from left to right, aiming for his head. The man dodges to Boz's left and swings his ax at Boz's leg, but it only knicks him.

Boz, still on the attack, spins around and swings his sword horizontally at the man's head, but the man dodges again. Switching his style, Boz redirects his sword midflight and swings it at the man's arm. Boz's sword bounces off of the man's armor, like as if his blade was made out of plastic.

Before Boz can do anything else, the man in the chestplate punches him in the gut with devastating force. Boz sinks to the ground from the force of the punch, unable to catch his breath.

The man in the chestplate looks down at Boz and laughs. “Hah, you weakling! You don't deserve to face me! Now die like the pitiful wretch you are! Die for giving her hope!” the man says before raising his axe in the air, about to deliver a death blow....

A shot suddenly rings out. The sound of a sniper rifle. The man in the chestplate goes limp and drops to the ground, a splatter of black blood on the building nearby and the street.

Across the street on a rooftop, laying prone, is a person in a brown cloak, holding a recently fired M177 sniper rifle. The person smirks at the kill. “Leave my friend's alone....” The cloaked individual then gets up from their position and disappears into the surrounding rooftops.

Boz lays on the ground for a short while, but then gets back up when his strength has returned. He clutches his stomach in pain. “Damn, that's probably going to bruise....” he says to himself as he walks over to Sin. As he walks, he drops the sword he was using earlier on the ground, seeing no use for it anymore.

After picking back up his metal bonkai, collapsing it and putting it in his waistband out of sight, Boz goes over to Sin. “Hey... you going to be alright...?” he says, still wounded from the battle.

Sin is still clearly winded from the battle. Whatever had happened to him has made him extremely exhausted, but the wounds he had taken previously have healed. Through deep, wounded breaths, Sin says “Give me a hand... I'm going to need your help getting back to Unimori....”

Without saying a word, Boz grabs Sin's extended hand and pulls him up. He holds him in a supportive stature with Sin's arm around his shoulder and Boz's hand around Sin's side. They begin making their way back to the school, leaving the group of gray men they had just battled without a second thought.

“Who... do you think... those guy's were....” Sin says, the exhaustion clear in his voice. Neither of them have an answer. Boz does make a comment on how it ended, and that he has an idea who it was that fired that round.

Soon enough, Boz and Sin arrive at the school gates. The police officers at the school's gates, luckily, had left for an emergency in the city, but nothing related to what they had just did. They slip through the gates and into the dormitories without anyone noticing them.

When the two of them arrive at their dorm room, Boz lays Sin down on his bed and then he retires to his own. As the two of them lay on their beds, both staring at the ceiling, one of them says “As much as this helps, thanks for being there, friend.”
