Sentient Society: Chapter 33, Part 1

It ended in a flash.

One second the eldritch-rune cult is terrorizing Ignama, and the next... it ends.

Hideout's go quiet, attacker's simply... turn off, falling to the floor in a near-vegetative state.

A crisis that had plagued Ignama for nearly half a year that the city thought would overwhelm them, that was believed to take anyone and destroy all in it's path... over in the blink of an eye.

That night is filled with emergency calls that go from calls of help for the caller, to pleas for an ambulance for the person attacking them.

One of the most important calls is from an anonymous source, stating they have found the principal of Unimori in some kind of bunker under the school, with the entrance being in his office. He is in a vegetative state, along with a few others inside. The caller hung up before they had a chance ask what had happened.

They found Hoshi, Konichi and Carie first, all of them huddled in a faculty office. When asked what happened, Konichi told them what she could about the entrance, and said there was a group of people in weird armor that she saw, but she was very confused about all of it.

They questioned Hoshi and Carie as well, but in the end, let them return to their dorms. They didn't tell them about the JB, they knew they wouldn't believe them anyway.

Hoshi returns to Jian's dorm room, sighing as he enters. They are all still awake, the adrenaline and the police lights having an effect on them. Boz, while sitting on his bed, asks “What the hell happened, man? What's with the police cars? I thought you said everything was handled?”

Hoshi holds his head low for a couple of moments, his mind settling on how to say it. His head moves to look at Boz once he has decided how to speak “There isn't anything to worry about. The cult is... done. Raphael came in, and he did what he should have from the very beginning. It's... over....”

“Goddamn finally!” Sin states from his side of the room “The bodies stacked up because of him. He's finished his part, and so have we. As far as I'm concerned, I'm moving on from this. This group, Raphael's team, everything.”

“What about Carie? I thought you wanted to make amends?” Boz asks Sin.

“With her, yes. With your group, no. Quite frankly, I've seen enough blood for my entire life now. I'm. Moving. On.” Sin says before laying down in his bed. “I hope you enjoyed having a shared room, because you're all being moved back to your original dorms in just a few days.

“... Damn, and here I called you a friend. I guess that don't mean nothin' to you, huh Mr. President.” Boz says with a hint of malice in his voice before he turns himself around into his bed.

Hoshi stands at the door, looking towards Jian sleeping in his bed. “This has taken it's toll on everyone. I guess I should sever ties before it takes me too. I hope you can recover, Jian....” he says before turning off the lights, and falling asleep in his own bed.

At the JB's base on Pontractus Numerus, the entire organization is going over the notes and files they found at the antenna relay. Raphael and June don't know what to look for, so they are staying out of it. It is all hands on deck for nearly everyone else as the JB desperately attempts to find out what the other plan is that the Demu have prepared.

Henry is pulling every resource he has, as well as cross-referencing the files with prior Demu events on other planets and constantly crossing out other options “Can't be a zombie plague... not a neural virus... no ships this far in so it can't be planetary glassing.... Goddamn it, were missing something....”

Miyra, while the room is going through the files, suddenly stops examining her own. “Wait....”

“Commander Sinnt, we don't have time to daydream. Do I need to remind you that lives are at stake?” Yen says, having noticed that Miyra has stopped going through her section of papers.

“It's something that Peacemaker said... he said that he failed, and that they were coming.... Maybe-” Miyra mutters to herself audibly.

“Wait, did you just figure something out?” Yen asks.

Miyra, deep in thought, states “I thought he was talking about other people he had mind-controlled, but maybe he meant-”

“-The Demu! Henry, what plans could they have this far in that they can rely on manpower? Or some kind of invasion force?” Yen asks Henry, hoping for an answer.

“Unless they have another Demu ship that got through the Nindros front border, which I doubt with that much firepower there, the only option is... oh god....”

“... Henry?” Miyra asks with concern in her voice.

“If I'm right about this, the entire planet is... for lack of a better term, screwed.” Henry states, pointing towards the massive screen in the C&I room. “Yen, the nearest long-range spy satellite is in quadrent omega-seventeen. Bring it up as fast as you can.”

“Roger, Sergeant Henry.” Yen states before going to sit at her station. A few calls later and she has access to the satellite. “Orders, Sergeant?”

“Point it towards the Sentient Society's planet, and scan the space around it.” Henry states, whispering silent prayers in his mind that he is wrong.

“Roger.” Yen says, giving the order to the satellite a moment later. The screen moves towards the planet Ignama is on, there is zoom in, a swerve around, but it stops abruptly. The entire room, which was in an uproar previously, goes silent, with everyone staring at the screen. Raphael, who was standing on the catwalk with June, stares at the screen in disbelief “What the fuck is that!”

On the screen is a large, brown and gray, fragmented world, that is moving towards Sentient Society's planet at a great speed. “Oh no, they really want this planet out of the picture....” Henry mutters to himself, concern and terror evident in every one of his words.

“Henry, explanation, now!” Raphael yells down to him.

“Those... are the damn Reapers. It's the Demu's best option when they want to wipe out an entire planet when no one expects it, and they need it gone. The best way to describe it is... they eat goddamn worlds, and your friend's planet is the next dish.

Raphael remains quiet for a moment, before looking towards Marinth and yelling “Portal machine! Now! Yen! Contact the UMA and get a ship there as fast as possible! Miyra! Get on your surveillance drones you set up and find where the Investigation Group is! I don't care if it's just a small group, we're getting as many of them off planet as possible, whether they like it or not! Move!”
