Sentient Society: Chapter 11, Part 2

June stands on the roof of a shanty building overlooking Unimori. She is being as observant as she possibly can be. She lets out a sigh as a high wind starts blowing to her left, catching wind of the right side of her cloak and making it flap in the air, revealing some of her armaments.

Even past the high wind, she still senses someone walking up behind her. She can tell who it is by the strength of the person's footsteps. “Ah, hello Miyra....” she says calmly past the wind, her voice carrying like an echo.

“Something bothering you, June. I know that you would likely speak to Raphael about any problems you have, but still...?” Miyra says while adjusting her minigun underneath of her cloak.

“Actually, Miyra, you are just the person that I need to speak to right now. Stand next to me, there is something I need to tell you.” June says in a calm voice.

Miyra smiles to underneath of the darkness of her hood. It's been a while since she actually could assist June in anything other than with engineering. She is happy that she can now help as a friend for the first time in nearly two months. She walks up to June's side and says “Alright, go ahead....”

“Before I begin, I have to ask you to never speak a word of this to anyone, including Raphael. This is between you and me!” June says, turning her head towards Miyra when she begins her last sentence. Miyra gives her a firm nod in response. “Good. Now I have something I need to get off of my chest.

“Do you remember when this mission began over two months ago, when our squad was given different people to watch and protect? When that first started, I followed Carie into the city, but I lost her in the middle of a crowd. I was on the ground when this happened, and attempted to find her by following on foot. She found me first and jammed a pistol in my stomach. She knew I was following from a stupid mistake I made earlier and she tried to force answers out of me. I could have fled or fought back, but I decided to tell her most of what I knew. I did, however, leave out the ending, the new friends she would meet, most of the situations that would happen, and who me and the JB were and still are.” June sighs after her last words, her heart beating at a quickened pace. She wanted to keep these words secret, telling no one, but she couldn't any longer.

Miyra puts her hand gently on June's shoulder, and smiles to her from beneath her hood. She says in as soothing a voice she can “Don't worry, June, no one's going to be hurt or will be hurt from your confession to Carie. Now how about we-”

Miyra's words are cut off as she hears the sound of clambering coming from behind her. She swings her head in it's direction and sees a Sigil head climbing onto the roof. “Get behind me!” she screams as she pushes June behind her and throws her cloak to the side. She takes off her minigun and tosses it aside, then drawing her broadsword and holding it in her two hands. She uses her might to sway it around in a threatening motion towards the Sigil head, attempting to push it away.

June sees another Sigil head coming up to the top of the roof, it's twisted gaze locked onto her as it climbs. Acting on instinct, she drops her cloak and takes her sky eagle out of it's holster. While holding her magnum towards the enemy she yells back to Miyra “There's more of them!”

The Sigil head rushes towards Miyra and attempts to stab her in the head with a knife, but she ducks underneath of the thrust and slashes her sword from one side to the other, cutting the Sigil head in two.

As the other possessed man rushes towards June with a sickle in it's hand, June decides to use a more challenging approach. Since June had awakened Raphael, she gained powers similar to his, giving her a hero mode just like Raphael's. As such, she now has a seventeen times multiplier to all of her physical and mental abilities when she is in her hero mode. She hasn't gotten her angel mode yet, but she knows it will come in time. During the month leading up to this operation, she has also trained herself in her magical abilities, giving her access to the ability to recite magical words of power in her mind instead of having only the option of casting them through somatic means.

When the Sigil head is only a few feet away from her, she casts a wind burst spell that hits the Sigil head with such an amount of force that it sends the sickle out of the Sigil heads hands and across the rooftop. The burst sends the Sigil head through the air and off the building to his death.

June hears a rustling to her left and immediately flings her right hand towards the noise. She sees another Sigil head crawling onto the roof and fires a shot straight through the eldritch rune on it's head. The Sigil head stays on the roof for a second before it collapses and falls to the ground three stories below.

The sound of the gun fire arouses the attention of the student's of Unimori. Some of the students start shouting, wondering where the noise came from, while others point towards the rooftop Miyra and June are on. The active duty police officers at the front gate start corralling students back into the school, fearing that another attack might be happening.

“Shit! We need to get out of here before the police are sent after us!” June screams to Miyra while firing a round at an advancing Sigil head and clipping it in the shoulder. The force of her sky eagle's bullet piercing into the Sigil head's shoulder is enough to drop him to the ground in pain for a few moments, but he is on his feet a few seconds later and back after June.

June is about to fire another shell at the Sigil head, but her gun jams. Luckily for her, Miyra is quick on her feet and steps in front of the Sigil head and June. She swings her sword in the air and cuts the sickle in the Sigil head's hand in half. After which, she slams the handle of her sword into the Sigil head's abdomen and kicks it in the chest, sending him rolling across the roof and landing on it's stomach.

“June! Let's go!” Miyra yells to June over her shoulder. After clearing her hand cannon, June gives Miyra a grunt and a nod of conformation. Miyra leaps off of the roof first with June following close behind. They sprint off of the roof away from the school and continue running until the Sigil heads have stopped their pursuit and they are both far away from Unimori.

After they are sure the chase has reached it's end, June and Miyra stop on a rooftop just near the edge of the market district. “Shit, they're getting more brazen, aren't they!?” Miyra asks while panting heavily.

“Hell yeah they are! That may be bad for us, but it's even worse for Jian's group! We better stay sharp if we want to keep doing our job!” June tells Miyra through quickened breathes. After which, she gives Miyra a quick motion of her arm, telling her to continue on behind her before she leaps off of the building and runs down the street.

Soon enough, Miyra and June are back at their lookouts and are restocking on rations, along with June getting another cloak for herself, since she left her previous one back on the rooftop where police are now swarming at. June sighs to herself before going onto the rooftop exit of her lookout and looking through a portable telescope. She sees Unimori off in the distance. It's relatively calm, considering that a shootout just took place nearby an hour or two ago. The time is nearing dusk and she sees some of the students going back to their dorm rooms while others stay outside and talk.

June remains on the rooftop until late in the evening, keeping her eyes rapidly trained on the Unimori dorm building. Right before she is about to decide on sleeping for the night, she sees something near the entrance to Unimori's courtyard....
