chapter 59: Child's play

          chapter 59: Child's play

Gods were fearsome entities capable of destroying mountains, even when attempting to kill low tier god without followers, one would require immense resources, some luck, and a good army.

Before taking down a god, preparations had to be made, sometimes years in advance for a moderately stable god and decades for a stronger god. Gods were beings classified to be even above dragons because although dragons were born with strength, gods had the potential to surpass even a hundred dragons. For that reason, rules were made to prevent unnecessary death. A god could not attack any mortal until challenged and if challenged, that God was permitted to unleash his strength.

Slayn quickly whispered a healing spell and slowly felt his pain subside, it would take a few hours to heal. As Slayn sat there smiling to himself by how easy it was to kill a god, a second thought intruded, it was odd, although he had killed Scitus, he had not received any indication of ascending to godhood. Very few people understood ascension, it hadn't been achieved in over a thousand years and the last mortal to ascend to godhood didn't even live in the Feren continent. Just as Slayn finished casting the healing spell five humans arrived to greet him, three young men and two young women. Slayn had some time ago taken notice of their astounding talent and thought that with proper nurturing, they would easily surpass Albot and Alcon. Slyan was never a good leader but he was excellent and eyeing aptitude, a talent he acquired from his father.

"General!!!" the youths were startled by Slyan's condition and then their eyes turned to the dead body near them. "who i??" Slyan didn't allow them to respond and quickly answered, "The god of monsters." He said with a malicious grin. The youth's eyes exploded with shock as if not believing Slyan's story.

"Killing him was child's play." As if shrouded by some mysterious omen, a dark cloud floated above them and in the same instant, the supposedly dead god began to move his limbs once more. First, his fingers twitched then his legs began to move forward to stand, the body used its arms to aid his legs up and in a matter of seconds the dead god had stood upright on his two feet as blood dripped down his chest and onto the floor. The moment his blood touched the floor a sudden burst of energy flooded the area and the trees began to visibly grow taller and thicker as if they were provided some miracle growth serum. Small flowers sprouted forth from the earth and vines quickly coiled around the youths and Slyan.

For a moment the six intruders were at a loss for words but only for a moment and when they regained their senses they quickly began to cut down the vines entangling them. the vines saw not who they entangled and happily wrapped themselves around Scitus but even so, Scitus did not move, he only intensely started at the six intruders as if deciding something within himself. The vines stopped their entanglement as soon as they reached his neck, Scitus closed his eyes as if coming to a decision.

Slyan too had made his decision and attacked, "you five, fight!!!" the five youths sprung into action quickly using their weapons to pierce his flesh, one mage women using her magic to cast a magic bolt and after a few seconds they realized that the young god had not moved and worse yet, had taken no wounds. The six took several steps back to evaluate what was happening. "he has a shield around himself but I don't think I can undo it." the young woman looked to his allies, "why not, it should be simple to undo an amateurs shield, he shouldn't have too much experience with magic. "

While Scitus’s magic expertise should have been low, the young mage knew that the shield was of intermediate quality but its strength was near invincible because of Scitus’s massive mana reserves. When dealing with magic, the higher the skill one had, the less mana one requires to cast a greater spell but someone like Scitus could cast powerful spells simply by pouring an ounce of his mana into them. as long as the spells were stable, they would absolutely decimate any opponent.

This wasn't the only problem, however. "he has a six-layer shield on himself!!!" The mage was shocked, she was at an expert level but even she could only hold three spells at most and this caused massive strain on her mind. casting spells wasn't simply having the mana capacity to cast them, it also required a level of mental fortitude so even someone who had an infinite amount of mana, would only be capable of casting a few spells a day if their mind couldn't resist the strain. Magic at a fundamental level, changed the way the world worked, it was like accessing the true gods' powers and using it for one's self, no normal person could comprehend nor handle such massive power.

Even the mightiest of gods, those who did not train to be mages, could only cast a few spells at a time before needing a few seconds to recover, but Scitus appeared to have no such limitations, almost instantaneously, Scitus had cast six spells at once. At that moment something clicked in the mage's mind and she could comprehend everything. "He's a mage god."

Gods could be put in too many boxes to identify their powers and their nature, Mage gods were gods that specialized in magic, such gods had incredible mental resilience, allowing them to cast hundreds of spells in a single instant, it had taken her a moment to realize this truth because the Feren continent only housed a few mage gods, most of the gods on the Feren continent were either Alchemy gods or Combat gods.

“General, I don’t think we should fight him.” Slyan looked at his subordinate with fiery red eyes that tore through her will. She suppressed her fear and nodded her head as if understanding his intentions.

"I've never killed anyone," Scitus spoke softly as if saddened by what was happening. Slyan and his subordinates continued their assault bur the mage could sense the number of Shield layers growing, Even though she easily tore through his shields in a matter of seconds, the moment she tore through one, two more appeared. The amount of mental fortitude required to cast and maintain those spells was truly at a godly level.

“where I come from, killing is an abhorrent act” Scitus calmly continued his speech completely ignoring the attacks made against him.

“but you have challenged me, you do not fear me, you think nothing of me.” The other four subordinates were feeling lumps grow in their throats, they could feel a thick murderous intent, “I must show this world that I am not to be played with. My country isn’t your playground.” Slyan slashed hundreds of times even using the thick mana in the air to increase the power of his attacks and finally after a few short seconds, he tore through the first shield, in total it only took him fifteen seconds, as long as he could tear down the other five he was sure he could win the fight. His mind did not think of the possibility that Scitus new offensive skills that wouldn’t destroy the surrounding area.

"Containment field," Scitus uttered these words and suddenly the six soldiers felt an enormous weight placed on their shoulders. their mind became hazy and their steps grew uneven.

"where I come from, criminals were put into a box and subjected to auditory torture. The frequency makes humans dizzy and unable to concentrate and using just the right sound to alter your balance, it would render even the most fearsome criminals as helpless as a baby." The six attacked but even though Scitus had not moved, they would on occasion miss their attacks.

The mage tried to dispel the magic but it was Foundation Magic and could not be dispelled, the only thing she could do was use a counterspell but she didn't understand what was being done to them.

"Graviton." Scitus eerily muttered and suddenly a massive weight fell on their shoulders, the mage was the first to collapse, she tried desperately to breathe but her lungs were being crushed underneath her own weight. The mage went to dispel the magic but then, "Impossible!!!" she wailed, the second magic he had cast was also Foundation Magic. It shouldn't have been possible; Foundation Magic was different from normal magic. Normal magic was like bending or creating new rules for the world around the mage, but Foundation Magic was different, it was like moving the rules around and applying them in places where they did not necessarily belong. This meant that only counter spelling would work, or rather shifting the rules back to how they were, but if one didn't understand which rules were moved, how could they possible counter the spell?

“gravitons were discovered in the year 2064, they are what makes gravity,” Scitus began to calmly explain the nature of his magic but it fell on deaf ears, his advance knowledge surpassed theirs by eons, to them it was as if some superior intelligence was explaining to them how to fill a cup of water.

While the other five had fallen, Slyan was still standing and continued his assault.

"Slyan, allow me to explain something to you." Slyan gritted his bloodied teeth and attacked with his black blade. "I can kill you and your entire army alone. The reason I don't is because of the rules, but being challenged allows me to counter-attack. You are an insect to me and now you're going to die because killing someone as weak as you is child's play." Scitus pointed a single finger in Slyans direction and uttered a single haunting phrase. "Kelvin Zero." In only a single instant everything within a mile radius froze, everything was a crystal white and the world was dead silent. The five bodies on the ground crumbled underneath their own weight and then Slyan followed soon after, becoming little more than shattered ice. Scitus's body was completely encased in a thick sheet of ice but after a few seconds, the frozen fingers slowly freed themselves from their icy prison.

Scitus punched the rest of the ice off and when he looked at the world around him his eyes widened. "that, was probably overkill." The entire area had turned into ice even the air had frozen as he could feel small crystals land on his shoulders.

Scitus hadn't died because he had cast a cold resistance spell allowing him to survive such insane temperatures, but he had lost a small layer of skin as a consequence; he looked at his reddened skin and thought, "I almost died." While he was learning fire magic, he realized that the more he understood how heat worked, the better the fireball he could create. Since Scitus was someone from a technologically advanced world, he knew the essence of heat and coldness. "The hotter something is, the faster the atoms are moving, the colder something is, the slower the atoms move." Kelvin 0 was the coldest temperature physically possible; it was temperature so cold that all atoms stopped. "I only stopped a couple of atoms, and this is the result." Scitus then turned to the corpses in front of him and felt a deep sadness, he had never wanted to kill but it was inevitable, if he didn't kill them it would have made the world think that he was unwilling to take deadly action and that would encourage further attacks to happen simply because nations would believe that they wouldn't have to worry about casualties.

Scitus with a sorrowful expression cast a silent spell, this spell wrapped mana around him and created cloth around him and slowly formed into clothing. His previous attack had rendered him completely naked. It was a powerful attack requiring nearly a quarter of his vast mana reserves to achieve, he shook his head and quickly headed towards the city.
