Chapter 58: Divine Vessel

The dragoness roared as she stomped her way towards the center of town easily destroying anything in her path. Many goblins were heavily wounded but it was their good fortune that they were not the mythical beast's target, she had even ignored the pathetic attempts of resistance by some passing soldiers who pelted her with rocks, spears, arrows, whatever they could use, but nothing could penetrate her stone scales.

Of all beasts, of all creatures, Dragons stood at the apex, no one dared to stand in their path and so she was surprised by the little goblins attempting to mount some resistance, she mostly found it amusing, as if a child was wailing at her with their tiny fists.

Finally reaching her destination, she was met with a familiar face.

"Terra!!!" the harpy queen shouted with a look of hatred in her eyes. "what are you doing here…" the dragoness whispered loud enough for the entire kingdom to hear her words, "old friend." for a moment the dragoness ceased her rampage but as soon as her eyes laid eyes on the human behind Eleka, her wrath resurfaced and with an astounding speed, tens of buildings flew into the air as her wings expanded and with only her left wing she hit Scitus, as her wings carefully avoided her dear friend. In an instant, Scitus vanished from sight deep into the wilderness but not before felling his city walls with the sudden impact of a thousand men. Eleka glared at the dragoness as if some great wrong was done to her.

"don't worry too much, Scitus is probably fine, I think." Sia said as she protected Seresa, Robin and Teal. The vampire Eveline wore a wide smile as she looked at the dragon. "that was my food." She muttered. The dragoness suddenly noticed the vast number of goblins dwelling within the city, it was something close to a thousand and all around her, she sensed the life presence of thousands more beyond the city walls. Some distance away she sensed even more humans within the Oasis. Although her arcane sense allowed her to sense living things at astounding distances, the Godless were still far enough away to hide from her eyes and to their great fortune, the dead zones of the oasis provided further camouflage.

“why did you do that Terra!!!” Eleka shouted in deep frustration, even some tears were welling up in her eyes. “why do you care about that human Eleka?”

"he is to be our savior." The dragoness then remembered the sorry state of the harpy race, cursed into some hideous form, perhaps the world had already forgotten, but the Dragoness remembered very clearly, to her it had only been two hundred years but to the world, it had been a little over five thousand, the age of monsters.

Many years ago, Eleka had befriended the dragoness and in their time together, the dragoness revealed secrets of the ancient times. The dragoness still remembered the sudden brilliance in Eleka's eyes when she told her, "The harpies were known as great champions of beauty, they were respected all through the realm for their immense beauty and kindness." Since then Eleka had sworn to return the harpy race to such glory.

"how could that human be of any use to you?" Eleka flew high with her wings and met the dragoness face to face "look around you Terra, not with your arcane sense, but with your eyes." The dragoness, wanting to alleviate her friend's rage, listened and dutifully looked at the people around her. Their magic signature showed they were goblinoids and kobolds and a few other races, but when she looked with her eyes she saw human-like creatures with full sets of hair. Their numbers were few, most still appeared to be ordinary for their respective species; then her eyes laid upon the three that hid behind Sia, their skin color was a reddish yellow, their height was almost four feet and their hair grew just passed their ears. "hobgoblins." The dragoness whispered to herself. She hadn't seen nor heard of one in over three sound years. even during the age of monsters, their kind had already heavily dwindled. One could say the age of monsters rose because of the hobgoblins' near extinction.

Her eyes then turned to Sia, "your signature is strange? Some mixture of demon and human." Sia smiled, she had heard Dragons were mighty beings with an astounding magic sense beyond the comprehension of ordinary spellcasters, but she had never heard of linage sense. The dragon could easily identify lineage by sight alone such a feat was incomprehensible and would terrify any person attempting to disguise themselves before someone with such an ability; but Sia did not falter, she was classified as a lesser celestial in terms of power and ability, Dragons were classified into their own ranking, aptly named dragon. Celestials were beings near the apex, below only heroes and dragons, Meaning that enough celestials could defeat a singular dragon. Demons tended to fight with sheer brute force, but Sia was different she was a mage and although Dragons were like fairies in their ability to control mana in the air, as long as someone was a good enough mage, they could avoid having their magic sealed and even attack a Dragons astral body because like fairies, dragons bodies were partially made of magic. Vampires were also incredibly useful when fighting dragons and it was just her luck that she had a vampire beside her with an astounding ability to devour mana, even as they stood there before the dragon, the Vampire Eveline had already switched to consuming the Dragons excess mana. As long as Sia had the vampire, she could stop the dragon from manipulating the mana in the air.

Then suddenly Sia's heart dropped, she had connected a small mana thread to Scitus's life force, it was the reason she was sure Scitus had survived but all in an instant, his life force vanished. The dragoness took a step back as if noticing the change, she was sure she could make amends with her dear friend as long as the human was alive but if he was dead, she wouldn't be so easily forgiven. Reviving a few dead people was a simple feat, but reviving a god was much different, the amount of magic power one needed was near astronomical, there were some methods to make it so that the creature being revived would lose their godhood but be revived, but noticing the thick mana in the air, she knew it was his godhood that had aided in the rebirth of the hobgoblin tribe.

Before the dragon even had a chance to reveal anything a sudden burst of energy so powerful that it startled her burst like a powerful geyser beside her. The mana suddenly completely encompassed the entire city in a density so thick that it completely suppressed her arcane sense, partially blinding her. Then Eveline who had been calmly consuming mana, started to vomit a black sludge and she tumbled to the floor as if gasping for air, then there was Sia who with a single phrase fell to her knees and clutched both her eyes despite knowing it was pointless, "HOLY SHIT!!!"

Seeing the three strongest beings in their presence suddenly stop their normal actions startled the five leaders there but they didn't have much time to worry about that because, at the same time as the sudden affliction of their allies, a geyser of wooden logs, some fruits, vegetables, and long dried meat began to fall across the city tearing down houses and injuring even more civilians. William quickly grabbed hold of his sister and easily dodged the logs as they fell around him though he could not avoid his face from being pelted by some passing tomatoes, Robin and teal both grabbed hold of Sia and fled the area, making sure she wasn't hit by the falling debris. The harpy flew down and using her powerful wings protected the civilian's from the falling logs "SPREAD YOUR WINGS TERRA!!!!" Eleka shouted to the dragoness who was still partially dazed by the sudden brilliance. The dragoness spread her massive wingspan, allowing a few hundred goblins to take shelter beneath her wings. Ironically most of the goblins who took shelter below her wings were the ones that had attacked her, for those that had desperately fled were already near the edge of the city and remained mostly unharmed by the sudden resource geyser.

After the dust was settled at the center of the blast were, a few box-like, containers and on their sides were colorful foreign letters that if translated read, "Margot ice-cream." One last tomato flew into the sky from some invisible void and hit William in the face as he was putting his sister down.

As Sia tended to her eyes and Eveline recovered from the sudden influx of mana, Sia remembered something about gods. Something all great gods had, a contingency in case of their death but revival by an ally was impossible.

“A divine vessel.”
