Chapter 40: Two Meetings part 2

Chapter 40: Two Meetings part 2

“We probably have about a month till they get here.” Scitus moved the conversation to the next order of business.

“Why do you think that Father?” Thoth asked, as he curiously played with an object in his hands. A new device that would be used for the sewers whose plans were still small and undetailed.

“Because Mern will probably order his men to assemble and then to quicken things, he will end his turn.” All but Hera and Thoth showed confusion.

"Um, I think its called, Sleeping here.” Sia’s eyes lit up as her subconscious processed the information and sent it to her consciousness.

“You think Mern is the impatient type?” Sia asks, as she lifts her leg on the table and rocks her chair back forth, delicately balancing on the two back legs.

“He is the angry type, his part of the table revealed at least that much and so does the way he controls his troops. Easily angered people are rarely patient.’ Scitus stares at Sia as he says this. “Hey!!!” She shouts and shifts her weight slightly to the left casing her downfall. With a knock and a bump, she hits the ground arm first. She quickly stands up with different shade red painting her face. "Point taken," she says, sitting back down, Robin moves his hand from his blade and rests them on his table. It was at that moment that Robin realized that Sia was an ally.

“I’m working on it though.” She said as she put both legs on the table and leaned on her chair, the Hera chuckled at sight, thinking Sia was more innocent than she previously thought.

"I have a question to ask you. Sia. The rest of you can return to your normal activities.” Thoth was the first to leave Robin followed and then Hera.

Robin looked back as he thought of training as much as possible for even if Sia was not a threat, she wasn't the only strong person in existence, so Robin would train to give Scitus more options when that time comes.

Seresa stayed behind, She was writing things down, things she found important so the Scitus could review later. This was mostly unnecessary, but she would eventually need to keep records of conversations and other details. Scitus felt it was better for her to practice while nothing of importance needed recording. Soon he would have to give her a calendar to keep important days marked. She would then need more tools, most of which were unavailable in the kingdom. On such item was the mighty pen, which at that time was being borrowed from Sia.

“Do you know a god by the name of Soen?” Sia almost choked on her spit, she removed her feet from the table and resumed a normal sitting position. Scitus found the gesture worrisome.

"you're joking right?" she said, pushing her head slightly forward to emphasize the question.

“A god by that name called out to me and seemed to know that I am not a low-ranking god.” Sia waved both hands in front of herself, “wait, wait.”

“Soen isn’t a god.” Scitus didn't know what to think if he wasn't god what was he?

“Soen is a Dequs, but people nowadays call them True Gods.” He remembered her saying that word once before, she used that word when he told her the being he met at the end of the cavern with the book of gods.

“He is called one of the three great abysmal evils by the mortals.” Scitus remained silent, wanting to learn more, he had heard of the three abysmal evils in the Plutus, but they never mention names, it only mentioned that all mortals feared them.

If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

“in total there are 12 Dequs, 3 are known as the Heavenly rulers and they are creators of humans, three are the wise kings, another 3 are known as the Great mages and the last three are known as the great abysmal evils.” Scitus pensively looked at the table and when he found the right words he turned to Sia.

“Why are they called that?” Sia turned her gaze to Seresa, and she felt compelled to do the same

“They are called that because they are the creators of the beings known as monsters.” Seresa’s hand stopped, She almost didn’t believe it. Only minutes prior had she learned of the creator of mortals but hearing that such great beings created monsters stirred an emotion inside her that boarded on excitement and perhaps fear.

“They are called the True Gods because they created everything, the heavenly rulers created all mortals and animals you see in this world, the wise kings created all the rules that we must obey, for instance, the skills we have that are not natural and act automatically like an instinct. It is what allows you to have divine sight and its what allows me to trick you into thinking I am an ally or your subject. They created the book of gods by the way. Then there are the Great Mages who created all magic and magical beings, Fairies are some such beings as are Dragons, though they also created the rules of magic some scholars think the wise kings made some magic rules of their own, then the Great abysmal evils created monsters and monstrous plants as well as monstrous beasts. The dread wolf, for instance, was created by the abysmal evils."

They were known as the true gods because they created the world, while the normal gods that existed only dominated it like a king. It was true they had powers of creation, but the creation was limited to what their subjects could create, only in the god realm could they have been considered true gods.

“Why do you think he showed himself to me, have they done this in the past” He wondered if Soen had an agenda, Sia would be the best bet to have that information

“From what I understand in one history book, it is stated that although the Dequs almost never interfere directly with us or gods, they will provide verbal support for certain beings. For instance, the Great Emperor Selo, was said to have the support of the Heavenly Rulers, Ironically this is why most of the kingdoms of that time joined forces and killed him.”

“how long ago was that?”

“Don’t know, that story is a legend written over 1 million years ago, and it was inside one of the oldest history books ever recorded, it was in there as a story but the authors of the book didn’t have anything else like that in there so it is assumed that there is some truth in the story.”

“A million years and your technology is still terrible” Sia smiled.

"Well magic does most of the work so innovation is a bit stagnant, but there are other reasons for it as well, for instance, a god usually prohibits the writing of certain weapons so that no one can steal the blueprints, and since it only needs to be created once for a god to be able to create it, the blueprints disappear with time and when the god dies or 1000 years pass, the technology is lost."

“1000 years?”

“Yes, every 1000 years,  Gods lose the ability to create things there people have created, so their people need to make it one more time, but after 1000 years the original inventors are long dead”

“Why does that happen?”

“The wise kings made this a rule, it’s the reasons Great gods fall into ruin, with their technology lost, they are basically a big army without new weapons or armor.”

“well, I am not going to make that mistake, I don’t care if another person has the same technology, as long as I know how to use it more effectively it is fine. Where I come from Secret technology was protected by other means other than only one person knowing how to make it.”

"Oh, enlighten me." Scitus lips turned upward, just enough to form a smile.

“there are many ways, but my favorite is to segment the work, meaning that only one person knows how to make one part of it, this way even if the person is kidnapped or for whatever reason reveals information he can only give an incomplete snippet, this method is useful in war as well. Give your generals an objective but don’t tell them the whole plan, generals should also do this with their troops. Tell one squad to go right another to go left, without telling them why they are doing it, this is mostly used to prevent spies from revealing the plan to the enemy, but this also works very well for battles. Tell your squad to retreat, but you told the leader of the squad beforehand that he isn't retreating but moving to the side for a pincer attack." Sia felt relief that she befriended such a cunning God.

"Scitus, May I ask a question." She was smiling and Scitus knew it came about from her desire to know if THAT was available to him.

“Do you how to use Gods Eternal tomb?” Scitus visibly smiled, he did this on purpose,

In the book of gods, there was word of the most dangerous of magic spells, a magic spell so powerful that even gods feared it. Sia surmised correctly that Scitus had been secretly training to use it against any major threat.

There would day that would use it, but not for a long time and in a different part of history entirely. That time would be known as The Final War.

“and they call me the monster” She laughed and with that the meeting ended.
