Chapter 8

When Dawson woke up, they went to their next classes as if nothing had happened. After school was over, he dropped Felix off at his house and then drove to his own. Dawson walked into his home and was hit with the smell of hamburger, which meant dinner was soon.

“Hey Dawson! Can you get Wyatt and put him on the playmat in the living room?” Yelled Octavia, Dawson’s older sister.

“Sure.”

Then he walked up the steep steps to his baby brother's colorful room. He saw the small child wide awake playing with an old, squeaky hippo toy when he opened the door. As Wyatt sees his brother, he drops the toy and babbles loudly, making grabby hands at Dawson. Dawson reached down and picked him up, and just as quickly as he got there, he left the room. Then, placing the baby on the playmat and turning on Disney Junior, he walked back into the kitchen to talk to his sister.

“So… why are you so late?” Asked Octavia while making dinner.

“I was doing something,” Dawson replied secretively.

“Oh! Doing what! Hanging out with another girlfriend?” Octavia laughed.

“No.”

“Boyfriend?”

“...No.”

“Ha! You hesitated!” She yelped as she pointed at him with the spatula.

“Stop! I honestly was just dropping a friend off at their house! There is nothing weird happening!” Dawson growled, aggravated.

“Fine, let me hear about this friend, though! I’m guessing it’s not Matt; so a new friend?” Octavia questioned.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

“He’s just a guy, I met him a few days ago. I heard this rumor about him and, ya’ know, I wanted to see if it was true. So, I kinda stalked him and it turns out the rumor was actually true, but we actually bonded over it. But the problem is I keep… doing this thing that's indirectly hurting him! And I don’t really know what to do! It’s annoying and confusing and completely stressing me out!” Dawson confessed breathlessly.

Octavia looked at him dumbfounded silently.

“I kinda went off topic…” Dawson admitted quietly, averting his eyes from his sister.

“Well, let's go piece by piece. What are you causing to hurt him?” Octavia questioned as she started to plate the burgers.

“Well-it’s… um hard to explain….” Dawson stuttered quietly.

Dawson knew he probably shouldn’t tell his sister he and this boy had powers and were going to save the world with them.

“Are you purposely hurting him? Manipulating him?” Octavia suggested suspiciously as she squinted her eyes.

“No... I’m not manipulating or hurting him on purpose, but….” Dawson lowered his head.

“Wait, didn’t you say you stalked him?-” Octavia shook.

But before Dawson could say anything, Wyatt started whining loudly for food.

“Ok! Give him this before he gets CPS called on us again!” Octavia commanded while handing Dawson a small plate with cut-up pieces of a hamburger patty with a little dollop of ketchup on the side.

Dawson took the plate and walked to the whining baby.

“Hey, it’s ok. Here’s your food.” Dawson comforted as he placed the plate on the colorful mat.

Wyatt started to slowly belly crawl over to the plate and used his tiny fingers to eat sloppily. Octavia handed Dawson his own plate as she sat on the other side of the baby’s playmat to eat together, and then they turned on a better show than whatever Wyatt was watching.

Dawson headed to his room after a few hours of hanging out with Octavia. Since it had been Friday, he didn’t have to go to bed, and his sister wouldn't haggle him about it either. Dawson was lounging on his bed as he began to get bored; he wanted to text someone. So he got out his phone, went to his contacts, and looked for Felix. That’s when it dawned on him; he never got Felix’s number.

“Ok, I’ll go get it tomorrow,” Dawson whispered to himself as he got up to turn the lights off. He jumped in bed, closed his eyes, and fell asleep.
