Chapter 16

Dawson didn’t sleep a wink that night. He felt like a zombie that morning at school. His mind raced about what had happened yesterday. He was terrified that Felix would hate him now, think of him as a weirdo, or not want to talk to him anymore. The next morning, he sat on the rock outside and waited for Felix to come. Surprisingly, he came to school relatively early, as in twenty minutes before the bell.

“Felix! I… uh- I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to force you into anything that you didn’t want to do.” Dawson sighed, rubbing the back of his neck.

“It’s fine, you didn’t really- you… you just startled me,” Felix admitted, “Things happen… to our brains at this age.”

“Ok, thanks for putting my mind at ease! But, now we need to get to class,” Dawson chuckled, smacking Felix’s back.

Even though Dawson's mind was clear of the drama with Felix, he still didn’t sleep the night before. That made it difficult to keep his eyes open during Geometry. When he opened his eyes again, he was in the empty and dark Geometry classroom with the teacher, Ms. Ann, standing in front of him.

“Ms. Ann? Why are you in my dream? If this is what I think it is… I thought it would be Felix…?” Dawson whispered, confused.

As if she didn’t hear him, Ms. Ann pointed behind Dawson. He turned around and saw a mirror, so he looked into it. As Dawson saw himself, he flexed his muscles, staring at his biceps. He realized something. The person behind him was not Ms. Ann but another monster. Another one of the ugly goat monsters. His body did a 360 spin to see Ms. Ann calmly standing there. Dawson looked back at the mirror, seeing the monster standing in her place. He had to look back and forth a couple of times to process what was happening.

“Yep. I get it now. You, Ms. Ann, are one of them.” Dawson growled.

Ms. Ann then disintegrated, and the classroom started shaking. The walls around him broke into tiny pieces and disappeared into the empty space surrounding the outside of the class.

“-son…”

“Daw…”

“Dawson!”

“What.” Dawson glared, looking up as if he hadn't just been sleeping.

“Since you slept through this class, you can make it up in detention!” Said Ms. Ann, utterly oblivious to what Dawson knew.

Dawson put on a scary smirk and said, “Oh, I couldn't miss it.”
