Chapter 41

Felix stared at Dawson's phone as he scrolled through different articles about school fires. They sat on Dawson's bed together and said the interesting articles out loud.

“This one was started by faulty wiring, “Dawson scrolled down some more, “Oh, this one was started by lightning!”

“That one was started by a student…” Felix muttered.

They glanced at each other and read some more, “The student got 4 years in jail.” Dawson read.

“We could go to jail… they would find out it was us.” Felix slumped back onto Dawson's pillow.

“Unless it wasn't us.” Dawson hinted, raising his eyebrow.

“Are you trying to suggest we… you… use somebody to do it…?” Felix swallowed hard.

“It's the only way we can't be traced back to it.” Dawson shrugged.

Felix pursed his lips together, knowing it was true, “I really don't want someone else to get blamed, I mean they wouldn't even remember doing it, right?”

Dawson nodded his head, “Hm… I could wear one of those ski masks! And possess a janitor or something!”

“Maybe we should, like, plan it out and write it down?” Felix voiced inquisitively.

“Yeah, good idea,” Dawson replied, opening a notes app.

Thoughts whirled around Felix’s head, “Are we really going to do this? Is this morally wrong? What can I even do in this situation?”

“Felix!” Dawson scolded, “Come on, stop zoning out!”

“S-sorry, what do you have?” Felix stuttered, looking back at Dawson’s phone.

“So far, I have that we stay late to put whatever supplies we need in school and-”

“What about the cameras?” Felix cut in.

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

“Huh?”

“They would see us putting the stuff in and if you possess someone, they would see them going to your car?” Felix explained.

“I forgot they had cameras…” Dawson sighed, “Wait, what about your globs! It can melt through anything!”

“Well… I haven't really been saving them…” Felix muttered, flustered.

“But I have,” Dawson commented.

He walked over to his closet door and opened it, showing all the gray glob-filled bottles.

Felix’s eyes widened in surprise, “Why do you have those?”

“Well, I knew they would come in handy… and I'm also not sure where to throw them away. But mostly the first reason!” Dawson smiled triumphantly.

Felix hummed in agreement, “So, melt the cameras?”

“Yeah! I can possess someone, pour a glob on all the cameras, and then we can walk around freely!” Dawson said, sitting back down on the bed.

“What about the sprinklers?”

“Oh my God!” Dawson barked out, slamming his hand on the bed.

The loud thud burned in Felix’s ears, painful and unforgiving, causing all the alarm bells to go off in his head.

“She's coming,” He thought, a shiver running down his spine.

Felix’s heart started pounding in his brain, sweat formed in the palms of his hands, and his throat closed up. He dryly swallowed but nothing was going down, he panted but nothing would go out. His eyes darted back and forth as they started to water.

“Felix… are you ok?” Dawson worried, going to put his hand on Felix’s shoulder.

Felix jerked violently away from Dawson's touch, making himself small and meek.

“P-please… I'm sorry…” Felix mumbled to no one in particular, “I'm sorry… I'm sorry… I'm sorry…”

“Felix- I…” Dawson shook, squeezing his hands together.

The creaking of the front door opening made its way up the steps to Dawson’s room. The familiar noise caused Felix to pull at his hair and start hysterically crying. Dawson then jumped up and ran down the stairs to Octavia, who had just come home.

“Octavia! I- F-Felix is crying! I think he's having a panic attack!” Dawson pleaded.

Octavia dropped her purse and immediately ran up the stairs to Dawson’s room. Felix sat on the bed, balled up with his head on his knees, screaming, rocking back and forth.

“Felix, honey, it's ok. Everything is ok. Nobody else is here. No one can hurt you. You’re hyperventilating, look, match my breathing.” Octavia comforted, softly sitting on the bed.

Octavia placed her hand on her chest to show him the slow rising and falling of her breathing. She continued and soon heard the small sound of Felix calming his breath. He kept his head down but followed her lead, with a few tears and hiccups coming through once in a while.

“Can I touch you? Do you want a hug?” Octavia asked quietly.

Felix hesitated for a moment, he then meekly nodded his head. With a slight coo, Octavia moved in closer and wrapped her arms around him, pulling Felix towards her. Octavia felt her uniform dampen as more tears sprung to Felix’s eyes, she continued to rub his back lovingly, swaying from side to side. Felix clutched at the bottom hem of her job's uniform, wishing he had her as a mom.
