Nebel and the part of nayder’s group of guys were currently out hunting, Rosa was still at the barn working on the weapons but Nebel had decided to test out their creations.
Without testing it would be impossible to know if they actually worked, it had been the same way with his other traps. Other than a being a little too good, he had actually gotten lucky with the first one and hadn’t needed to do much but the second one had needed a quite a bit of little tweaks to get it to work right.
Nayder had told him about a small band of orcs that had taken refuge in a barn, much like his one, after having been routed in a battle the other day, when he asked about some orcs to test them on and Nebel had taken a few “assistants” to see how the weapons performed.
Nebel and his “assistants” had already walked the distance and were now just on the other side of a small rise from the barn. They were watching to see how many orcs there actually were inside the barn. So far they had seen around ten, which was actually about half of a normal raiding party.
Mike who had come along to make sure the men did what he asked had already told him that the group they had seen fleeing which only numbered four had most likely found other fragments while they weren’t looking. Apparently it had already happened to them a few times, since the orcs were very tall and pretty strong; the humans had trouble finishing them off. Wielding the same weapon an orc could run faster and longer so catching one that didn’t want to be caught was next to impossible.
If they wanted to finish them all in one attack they had to make sure to surround them or failing that stop them from escaping by disabling them. Nebel’s new permanent spells were made just for that, the human lines here had only stagnated in their advance because each time they had a fight they had to go back and clean up the fragments.
If the orcs no longer could escape then the humans would no longer have to play hide and seek with them and could finally secure the area up until the natural choke point by the sea.
After counting the sentries, Nebel holds up four fingers to the rest of his group to tell them the count before pointing at two groups of three men and motioning them to go around the barn and come from the other side… after waiting for them to reach the other side Nebel and the remaining men start a silent charge towards the barn. Since they didn’t yell like idiots… like some of the men had wanted to do… the orcs only noticed them when they were a dozen meters away, Nebel had timed it for when the sentries had started to talk among themselves.
The orcs ready their weapons and yell to alert their allies, from inside the barn Nebel hears sounds of hurried movement just as the first of the men reaches the orcs.
The man yells out loud and swings his sword; the hit bounces off of the orcs armor but leaves it staggering. Another orc steps in to attack the rebounding man and another of the men steps in and blocks the attack on his War hammer’s steel pole. As the men gather around the sentries, that had grouped themselves for mutual protection, Nebel points out the fire coming off of the first attackers sword.
“It looks like it’s working!” Nebel shouts to the men. “Give them a moment after hitting to make sure it takes effect!”
Eight men arrange themselves around the four orcs while the rest head inside to deal with the rest. The plan for this fight was for some of the men to “play around” with a few orcs while the rest were dealt with. Nebel’s job, if everything went well was to just watch and see hwo good the effects were… if there were any.
Four of the men had two handed swords while the other four had war hammers and axes. All of them were spelled and two of the orcs had already been affected they just didn’t know it.
The orc that was first attacked runs forwards; the attacker dodges the attack and the defender also. “Hmm one strike doesn’t seem to be enough.” The men had their orders each orc was only to be affected by one spell if at all possible.
One of the other teams is attacked and the blow is blocked, the orc closest to Nebel gets another hit on his armor and after a moment it starts to stagger. “Hmm two hits drains them quite a bit.” Nebel says to the men. “Three should just about do it!”

Two teams keep attacking their orcs. One of the orcs that had been block steps forwards and swings! His axe hits the ground and he starts to pull it out… and fails! The orc gives it a few more tugs before giving up on it and jumping at the pair that were dealing with it, with its bare hands.
The attacker steps up to it as it leaps and slaps it with the flat of his blade, after it smirks at the light hit and tries to move forwards it looks down and sees the sword still presses against it. The orc lifts its hand to push it away and instead it loses its balance and falls to the side… the orc fails to get up again.
One of the other orcs is hit by a third hit and collapses forwards… the unlucky attacker gets trapped under him and starts to half laugh half cry.
The other blocked orcs lifts his hammer up high and then frowns… just before it falls on top of him, before burying itself in the ground beside the now unconscious orc.
The last orc is quickly dealt with after Nebel says “Enough” and per previous orders the four unconscious orcs are tied up and placed on four poles for easy carrying.
Nebel checks inside the barn and after seeing that the rest of the orcs had been dealt with, starts to look for anything useful.
Towards the back of the barn is some heavy machinery for farming, tractors for example and tools for their maintenance but nothing the Nebel can really use…
So Nebel leads the men… after they’re done looting the kills… out of the barn and back on their way to Nayder’s base camp, with eight of the men carrying the ends of the “Orc kebobs” on their shoulders.
When they get back to base Nebel tells Rosa about the effects and after the men build some cages the orcs are locked away… for experiments!
For the first test Nebel hexes a piece of wood and stands in a small room with an orc and said piece of wood. The orc rushes towards Nebel and lifts the piece of wood over its head, it swings down at him but he side steps and punches it in the gut to keep it angry.
The orc reacts just like he wants it to and lifts the piece of wood over its head again, this time Nebel sees some wobbling in its arms just before he has to back step not to become mister U shaped head.
On the fifth attempt the orc finally drops the piece of wood on its on head but due to the piece of wood’s lower than metal weight it isn’t knocked out and starts to try to pick up the piece of wood.
Unlike the other orc Nebel saw with this dilemma, it keeps trying to lift the piece of wood until it actually keels over from lack of body heat.
Nebel gets another orc and repeats the test until he’s satisfied…
“We need to double the hexes strength.” Nebel tells Rosa
“Why?” she asks swear beading her fore head as she rests her brain for a few minutes.
“Some weapons will take too long for them to drop, due to low natural weight.” He says sitting down beside her and putting his arm around her waist. “if we up the vectors strength it will also raise the heat sapping effect so we don’t really have to think to much on this one.”
Rosa signs and leans into him. Nebel pats her hand on his thigh before getting to his feet and walking over to the weapons… they had a lot of work to do and only a day and a half until the dead line, as the update on his display had informed him. Apparently lots of the goblin blood had been washed off of the path and down the mountainside by a rain storm. This didn’t put out the fire and it actually spread it down into the valley, but now there was less goblin oils on the path…
They needed to get this last job done…
