Glittering Mess 15

Glittering Mess 15

Roderick shot the ranger's horse. He put ranger at his gunpoint and said, "Ghost, don’t come near or I will kill him. Don’t replicate either."

"He won't hurt you." Ranger raised his arms along with his wife, "Ghosts can't come near the fire I light."

"Are you serious?" Roderick said.

"Do you think I lit this fire just to sing this shitsong?"

Roderick was somewhat relieved, but the logs where flames were dancing were turning into charcoal. He knew the fire would not keep on burning for long.

"Ranger." Roderick said, "Remove your jacket and throw it in the fire."

Ranger could fulfill his simple request. Fire grew when his jacket melted on fire. He told his wife to do the same. She also had no problem with it.

Roderick realized neither ghost nor fire were immediate threats when he saw Tafadzwa arrive there. Ghost could not touch him, but Tafadzwa sure could.

"How did you get here?" Roderick asked.

"Sacrifice." Tafadzwa walked alone.

His men died for him? Roderick wondered.

"Where's the treasure?"

"In my jeep." Tafadzwa took out his gun and started walking closer to him.

"Then go with treasure. Why do you want to kill me?" Roderick asked.

"Some part of treasure still in the tunnel. You know where it is."

He put the gun nozzle on Roderick's chin while Roderick was busy in keeping the ranger at his gunpoint. Roderick was not ready to make ranger fell free at any cost. The ghost was waiting for Roderick to point his gun away from the ranger.

Roderick snatched his gun in lightening speed and threw it in the fire. His gun melted in fire, prolonging its life more. Nevertheless, Roderick was not safe from Tafadzwa. Tafadzwa took out his knife and tried to stab him. Roderick held his hand a centimeter before the blade could pierce his chest. From there, Roderick was the one to win the test of power. He pushed the dagger in Tafadzwa's chest.

Tafadzwa did not show any sign of being hurt. Tafadzwa threw a punch at him, reminding Roderick that he was vulnerable to pain. Roderick kept on holding the knife hilt and pulled it from Tafadzwa's chest. He did not realize ranger's gun had fallen on floor. He did not even acknowledge its existence.

Ranger was the one to seize the chance. While Tafadzwa and Roderick were fist-fighting near fire, he ran towards his horse. Roderick saw it and shot the horse dead. He did not get to do anything more as Tafadzwa attacked him again.

Ranger and his terrified wife had no choice other than running to safety. The forest was big enough to get lost in.

Finding lost people in this forest is no easy task. Ranger said to himself and sprinted with his wife in the woods.
