Devil's Advocate 9

Devil's Advocate 9

With the mirror clutched in Chopyk’s armpits, three of them climbed the hill to reach Devils’ Court area. A guard outside the gate body searched them. Devils nearby were surprised to see presence of a human in the place reserved only for devils. But none of them raised any question while the talking mirror was complaining of being tickled.

Roderick couldn’t take the place as a court. Apart from a big emblem of a monster’s head, there was nothing worth watching. The castle itself had cracks reaching up to the top and some insects crawled out from there.

The victim and his advocates went for registration of their case after getting past searching. Roderick sat on chair with mirror near him while Chopyk dealt with a thin devil on the counter.

Chopyk came back with a token which resembled to the head Roderick had seen outside.

“The case has been filed. Hearing will happen at ten tonight.” Chopyk said.

“Ten?” Roderick yelled and calmed himself down for what he had to say next, “Can’t our turn come first?”

“I asked him the same thing, but it doesn’t look possible.”

You dumb devil. Roderick rose from the bench and went to the counter.

“Make our hearing happen quick.” Roderick spoke to the devil who was amused to see a human, “Don’t you see, nobody else is here right now.”

The receptionist squinted at Chopyk then said, “Hearings are booked in advance. You will get access to hearing only if these devils are unable to get re-registered in next twenty minutes.” He showed Roderick a list of names which Roderick couldn’t pronounce, “I will re-register you people in advance because you are present right now.”

“When will they come?”

“Both parties would come anytime soon if they want to win the case.” Receptionist said, “What about your opposition?”

“She will come here too.”

“I see, you filed this case so early so that they don’t get to make evidences.” He was grinning a bit. Roderick realized he was talking to Chopyk.

Roderick moved towards Chopyk, who took it as an insult.

“Your judiciary system sucks.” Roderick said, “Look how random things are here.”

“I told you, we come here as a last resort.” Chopyk opened his arms.

Roderick whispered in Chopyk’s ear, “Don’t blame the system. Use it in your favor. We will not let the devils ahead of us reach here in time.”

Chopyk grinned in excitement whereas the mirror stood, making an annoyed face as usual.

Roderick and Chopyk rushed outside with the mirror covered by a cloth. They went out of the gate to see whether other people were coming there or not.

Chopyk looked at Roderick hopelessly when they saw a bunch of devils gasping their way towards the court.

“They are coming here. What do we do?” Chopyk was anxious.
