Devil's Advocate 15

Devil's Advocate 15

An hour later, the judge took another break for ten minutes to refresh himself. Isolda and Bartholomew gave them a mocking and left the room. Ignoring everything, Roderick wished him luck and Chopyk left for his cabin, whereas Roderick dashed to the bathroom for relieving himself. The scared devil went to his room. His blood boiled when he reached there.

Bartholomew was already in that room, bribing the judge. There was a stack of coin infront of the judge. It looked like he had broken in just before the judge was ready to sell justice.

Chopyk came near his table and made a higher tower of coins. Even though he had lost money, he still seemed to have more coins than Bartholomew.

Bartholomew also added more coins to his stack. The judge looked at Chopyk with some serious expectations, so Chopyk added more coins on top. The judge’s eyes moved to Bartholomew with same expression. Bartholomew replicated Chopyk’s action, but made his tower taller than his.

Both of them started to compete against each other. But in the end, Bartholomew’s stack was taller than Chopyk’s.

“Is this all you two have?” Judge said to exhausted devils,

Both of them nod.

“Sorry, Chopyk.” Judge said and rang the bell on his table.

Bartholomew made his coins vanish, but Chopyk couldn’t do so in time. As the guards came in, they arrested Chopyk. Roderick, still disgusted with the smell in the bathroom, saw Chopyk being dragged by the guards. .it was no brainer for him to guess what had happened.

At least Isolda and Chopyk can’t quarrel now. Phew. Roderick thought, But what if she quarrels with Bartholomew? The question popped in his mind again.

Bell rang once again, telling the people waiting for their hearing to be back in the courtroom. Roderick dashed to there before the judge himself. Judge took his time to come and when he did, he had things to say to Roderick, “Chopyk’s advocate. Chopyk will go to the prison for two charges if he doesn’t prove he is a victim in Isolda’s case. He will serve time in prison for trying to bribe me, regardless. If you have any strong proof to defend him, then bring it to me till midnight.”

“Yes, your honor.” Roderick said, thinking of a plan.

While the judge was busy with other cases, Roderick went to the receptionist’s desk and noted address of the stammering devil who had tried to sue the old judge.
