I made my way back to the inn and waited while doing some maintenance on my sword and armour that I had learned to do. At around 2:55 pm the party started to gather at the inn. When we were all here I told them about the hunting request for the named monster and asked whether we should take the request or not.
Herald thought for a bit then replied to me, "We could take the request but it shouldn't be our main focus of the journey. We are here to loot the dungeon for money after all. If we meet the named monster then we will think about the request then."
Ray nodded his head and chipped in his own thoughts. "Named monsters are rather dangerous so if we are going to fight one we should be properly prepared. From what Zane told us this monster likes to loot peoples gear rather than kill them but we better be prepared regardless of whether we intend to fight it or not."
Ronia didn't seem to like the idea of fighting a named monster but she agreed that we should be prepared regardless. We took a few minutes to do last minute checks on our gear and equipment and get anything we might be forgetting. After that we head to the adventurers guild to accept the request and then go to the dungeon. We talked while heading there and spoke about the dungeon while we had there.
Ronia spoke up while we walked saying "Did you know that this dungeon belongs to an immortal? It's not a natural born dungeon but an immortal made one! Also, no one has managed to reach the final layer and free the immortal yet even after all these years, that's just how difficult the dungeon is! I heard that on the 100'th floor and beyond there are undead dragons roaming around like goblins!" She finished the last sentence with a look of complete wonder in her eyes as if she couldn't imagine how such a sight could even exist. We had arrived at the adventurers guild so I quickly head in and accepted the request for us and then rejoined the party as we moved towards the dungeon.
We continued talking about things like that, such as how this dungeon was focused more on undead creatures, and how it didn't focus on a specific type of monster. That meant that while we could meet undead goblins on the first few floors, we might also meet golems deeper in. We could also meet the undead dragons deep down on floor 100 or beyond, but we wouldn't even be able to get past floor 50 right now, let alone 100.
We finally made it to the dungeon entrance and saw a bustling scene of adventurers milling about. The entrance to the dungeon was walled off with high walls that looked just as powerful as the exterior walls defending the city. People were guarding the entrance and the walls but mostly focusing on defending from monsters coming out of the dungeon rather than threats going into the dungeon. There were a few rather powerful people on the walls that I detected with my mana sense. The guards were checking people before they went in to make sure people followed the rules and that the dungeon entrance was orderly. We lined up and waited out turns, which came quickly as less than 5 minutes passed before we were at the gates.
A guard took our adventurer's id's and after confirming several things and explaining some rules. The general gist was that we shouldn't attack other adventurers , don't steal other's loot or exp and if there are others in trouble we should try to help them out if possible. We agreed and were then let in with a stern warning that failure to follow the rules would result in punishment.
We were carefully moving in the dungeon and saw dozens of adventurers heading deeper into the dungeon or attacking monsters that were spawned. The monsters of this floor were undead goblins and they didn't seem to pose much of a threat as they were severely outnumbered and got pummeled to death by the myriad of adventurers. The undead goblins seemed to drop nothing useful other than a small core that resided in their chest or skull usually. They were far smaller than the golem cores I had. That made me wonder why my undead goblins didn't drop any cores. I didn't think too deeply into this and just chalked it up to a magic thing.
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
We ignored them and decided to head a few floors deeper as the first couple floors seemed to be congested with too many people. We head deeper and arrived at a large glowing blue portal, along with a floating stone slab that looked like a keyboard. People pressed what floor they wanted to go to and then waited for the keyboard to flash blue and then head into the portal. It seemed that this dungeon let you portal to a floor that you had already been to. Since we hadn't been to any floors we just didn't type anything and head into the portal, entering the second floor. I was wondering about why the dungeons had such convenient features. Was it because it was made by an immortal's energy? I stopped thinking about it and refocused. We continued walking and saw that there was just as many adventurers on the second floor as the first so we continued heading deeper.
By the time we had gotten to the 7th floor there were far less adventurers than before and we could now fight monsters without bumping into 10 other people. Ronia commented about this saying "The first few floors looked less like adventurers fighting and more like a mob of angry people beating things to death. I mean they were very low level adventurers, probably just beginners but still."
We laughed about that and talked a bit more but heard the first signs of a monster and sobered up. Beyond the 5th floor the undead changed from just undead goblins to undead hobgoblins and other variations of goblins, such as warriors or mages. Ray and Herald adjusted their grips and we head closer with caution. When we turned the corner we saw 3 undead goblin warriors and 2 undead goblin mage. Even though I was a grand necromancer the monsters still attacked me with no regard so it seemed being a necromancer didn't make you immune to undead.
We started off by having Herald taunt the monsters with his skill, grabbing their attention while I attacked with ice shards. I didn't want to use fireballs as we were in a cave and the smoke might cause us to have trouble breathing. Even though the dungeon naturally cleared the air really fast it might be a problem if I used big fire spells so I was going to stick to ice spells for now.
The undead looked right at Herald and the undead goblin warriors started to rush Herald, claws and clubs at the ready. My ice shard stabbed right into the first goblin mage's skull, causing the blue glow in its eye sockets to fade away. The undead dropped and fell apart into a pile of bones, whatever magic holding it together fading with the glow of its eyes. Ronia fired an arrow enchanted with her magic and it pierced the skull of the other undead goblin mage. With the mages taken care of, Herald and Ray made quick work of the undead goblin warriors.
Herald shield bashed one and slashed horizontally at the monster, cleaving it apart at the waist, causing it to die and fall apart. The other one was obliterated by Ray's spear as he cut its skull into pieces with a few simple strikes. We checked for other monsters nearby and then head to get the loot. We left the bones and took the tiny pea-sized cores. I put the 4 cores in my inventory and we head deeper. We soon met various groups of undead. The most deadly were the ranged undead such as the undead goblin archers or mages so they were taken care of quickly by me or Ronia. Ray could use a few spells involving his spear for ranged attacks but didn't bother and focused on melee.
Like that we cleared the 7th floor with ease as we carefully made our way through, without a single injury. We had gathered over 70 tiny core. There was still groups of adventurers roaming this floor so we didn't have free reign on the floor but it was still a decent haul for half an hour of clearing the dungeon. We discussed whether or not we should head deeper and decided that we could handle going deeper. We would go deeper until we started having difficulty and would then go back to the previous floor. We were here to earn money, not die after all. No need to fight in dangerous battles the entire time when safer battles could net us a similar amount of money.
We had a small snack break at the portal room and checked our gear for anything wrong. Once we were ready we set off to the 8th floor while I wondered if we would meet the named monster anytime soon.
