Chapter 30: Going Solo

"Sorry Zane but I can't. I really need to just relax and unwind after that mess." I looked at Ronia surprised and turned to Ray who also shook his head saying "I can't go either. You saw how I lost my cool there. My whole everything is a mess at the moment. I feel like shit constantly so diving into a dungeon is a no go for me." I turned to our resident tank who just flat out said "Nope. My armour's too damn messed up after all of that crap. My chestplate was caved in at one spot and it really hurts to wear so I'm not heading anywhere until it's fixed."

I just sat there while looking off into the distance. I sighed and saw that everyone looked sorry but then Ronia said "Why don't you also relax. If you really want to go now you could always party up with a different party or go solo although that's not a good idea. We'll be here for the rest of this week at least so you can always come back to hang out whenever." My brain started to actually function as I heard what she said. "Oh yeah! I could go solo! Why'd I forget about that!"

I had always gone solo whenever I went on adventures back in the game so why did it have to change now? I could just go solo again. It'll be like usual and I'll get to try out my necromancer spells a lot more often while alone. I looked at the group and said "Thanks for the idea Ronia. I'll be heading off to get some stuff and get ready for a dungeon dive. I'll cya guys later. I left the eating hall of the now repaired in and head towards the store. I was going to sell all of this crap I had in my inventory. I had been picking up a bunch of ogre and goblin bodies while we were out hunting. I also picked up a lot of Horbrot bodies but the only useful part of them is their claws and teeth. Their hide doesn't sell real great on account of it smelling like the sewers.

I made it to Dokam's place and greeted the staff. I chose to come here instead of the adventurers guild since I could probably get a good deal for the alchemical ingredients I got from the sewers. I took out a large pile of various mushrooms, weeds and herbs and placed them on the counter. I said "I would like to sell these alchemical ingredients please." I hadn't managed to get that one mushroom I wanted to get but instead found a load of cheaper herbs.

The staff looked at the pile and looked a mix between confused and happy. He told me to wait a moment and appraised the herbs. He spent a good few minutes appraising some of the herbs. After a few minutes of appraising them he finally spoke up. "I'll give you 10 silver and 29 copper for all of them." I was dumbfounded. When the hell was these weakass ingredients worth so much? I thought I might have missed something and was being swindled so I checked over every herb and they were all what I knew they were. Nothing was amiss so why were they worth so much? Granted I brought a crap ton of them but that still should be 10 silver worth.

I scratched my head and after finding I didn't miss anything I decided to take the deal. I head back to the inn after deciding that I would sell all the corpses at once after coming back from the dungeon. Once I was back I walked to the others who were eating some food and said "Alright I sold the herbs we got from the sewers and netted us 10 silver and 29 copper. How do you guy want to split it?" They looked at Ronia who thought for a bit and then said "How about we split it 4 silver for you and 2 for the rest of us? We wouldn't have known the place existed if not for you so I feel its only fair. What do you guys think?" Ronia smiled and looked at the 2 guys who also smiled and nodded. I was going to say something about splitting it more evenly but remembered that I was flat broke with literally nothing to my name and decided to take it.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

"Thanks guys. Guess I'll accept the kind gesture then. I'll be sure to sell the ogre bodies once I get back from the dungeon. I really don't want to make back and forth trips to be honest." The others laughed as they accepted the 2 silver and said it was alright. I walked off towards the exit from the city and head to the Golem Caverns. It was a dungeon filled with golems obviously but there was a large variety and it might as well be an endless mine. I finally reached the dungeon and stood in front of it. I was ready to solo dive for once after what felt like forever. Diving with friends was fun but sometimes going alone is best.

I head into the cave and created a ball of light above me that lit up the cavern. I was wasting a little mana but who cares when its so little mana. I kept walking until I saw the remains of a stone golem.

I sighed and said "God damn is there someone else in this dungeon as well? Cmon man! Just when I was ready to go solo. I hope the golems respawned by the time I get there. That or they missed some. I really want some levels." I kept walking and held my sword at the ready. I heard stomping and kept walking towards it. I rounded a corner and saw the remains of 2 stone golems. There was nothing else here. "What the hell? What was that stomping then? Don't tell me they are beating up golems right before I get there! I need to pick up the pace and get ahead of them." I picked up the pace and started to speed walk through the dungeon. I was careful to still watch for traps and monsters because this was still a dungeon, a place of death.

I quickly went forward and went past the remains of over a dozen stone golems and even an iron golem. The golems all had their cores removed but not their bodies. I guess its just some adventurers hunting for cores. They still sell well enough it's still worth the trouble of killing golems. I nearly got tangled in a rope trap that was designed to tangle you up in ropes falling from the ceiling, making you easy prey for a golems fist or foot. I thought back to all those years ago when I was facing this place for the first time and died several times. I laughed at that thought and kept travelling forward but stored the iron ore into my inventory first. No need to leave this stuff here for the dungeon to reabsorb right? I can make a quick buck off the remains. "Hell yeah for being a scavenger! Free loot!"

I kept up the pace and dodged several more traps, mostly rope traps with 2 pitfall traps. It was literally a big hole in the ground that you would fall into, or more likely get shoved in by a golems fist. There wasn't even a false floor on it or anything. "Man how did I die to these things so many times? I feel embarrassed just thinking about it." I shook my head as I continued my march forward for free loot and potentially to get ahead of the party that was slaughtering golems left and right.

I was happily marching forwards when I saw something that surprised me. It was a dead body, and not a golem one. It was a human body. I quickly dashed over and checked them. The person was a man wearing leather armour that looked rather worn down with some rags that barely qualified as clothes. There was signs of them dying a bloody death with bruises all over. I just stood up after sighing and continued forward. There was death with adventuring just as there were rewards. People knew this so they accepted the risk and I just continued forward without a look back. The dungeon would absorb the corpse or the party would take the corpse outside to be given to the family of the dead. I wasn't going to interfere with that. Besides, having human corpses as zombies wasn't a fun prospect. Not at such a low level. Not only would it get me killed instantly by anyone sane, I would have a rather useless zombie as a minion. Even an Ogre was better than an average human. I kept walking forward into the dungeon unaware of what lay ahead of me was just as unpleasant as this if not moreso.
