I was sitting in front of the Guildmaster and Alfred, both of whom were looking at me rather intently and giving off some menacing vibes.
"So...mind explaining what Demon Hearth crystals are and how you know about them? That's not exactly common knowledge, or knowledge people know in general." The guildmaster was looking at me and speaking with a smile but his smile was anything other than kind. I scratched my head trying to think of a way to get out of this situation. I couldn't very well tell them 'Hey I reincarnated here from another world and this was all a videogame I played' because that would get me a smack on the head and some stern looks at best.
I took a deep breath and started to say my excuse. "I actually learned of Demon Hearth Crystals from my hometown. There was a library filled with books upon books of knowledge from across the world. I sort of read it from there and remembered it when looking at the crystal."
I looked at the two who were staring right at me intently, with my heart beating. I was talking about the internet when speaking of the library but I didn't tell them that. No need to incriminate myself further right?
After what felt like minutes, Alfred finally spoke up and eased off the stare and said "He's not lying Grangar, my skill didn't pick up a lie there, just him being real nervous, and I can see why what with you staring at the poor man as if you want to murder him haha!"
The guildmaster looked at Alfred and sighed saying "Oh come on, I didn't look that scary, your exaggerating!" They bantered a bit more before turning back to me and getting on topic again. Alfred spoke up first.
"So you knew about waht the Demon Hearth Crystal was because of the extensive information in your hometown correct? Where is your hometown might I ask? A wealth of information such as that would be very welcome provided both parties are willing to trade." He sounded far kinder than before and as much as I wanted to tell him where I was from I couldn't. I mean how the hell am I supposed to explain the concept of the internet to someone from a fantasy world? Let alone the fact they can't access it, they would consider me crazy or a liar! I wracked my brain for something to say that wouldn't get me turned into a pancake and eventually thought of something.
"My hometown is very far away from here. It's so far that no one would be able to reach it even if you tried. I only wound up in this continent because of a magical mishap that teleported me so far from home." I mean it sounded plausible. I was sent here by the immortal and It was a magical mishap in my eyes that sent me here so his skill wouldn't detect the lie right? Wrong.
Alfred stared at me real hard for a few seconds before speaking up, "You don't seem to be telling the truth about the teleportation spell that sent you here but everything else seems to be in order." He looked at me for another second before saying "However, I won't pry too much into your background. Everyone has their secrets, it just depends on how much they affect others that matters right now."
I internally sighed in relief that I wasn't dead yet but the talk didn't seem to be over yet. The guildmaster spoke up after Alfred finished his piece. "Now that we know you arn't some demon in disguise or something equally crazy, we can proceed with what I wanted to do. Gather information. How much do you know about demons. Spill."
I thought about what I should tell them and decided to say some basic information. "The demonic realm was sealed numerous years ago when tens of thousands of heroic class entities went into the Demonic Realm. They fought the demonic forces for years and eventually killed all of the demonic Grand Dukes and finally the Demon Overlord. They then used their powers to seal the various rips to the Demonic Realm, gettingrid of the demon menace from our world."
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
I just recited the blurb from a lore article I read ingame once. The two sitting in front of me looked like they wanted more information so I sighed and started to speak about other things I knew.
~~~
It had taken 2 hours of constant back and forth talking and answering questions before we were finished. I had ended up talking about what the Grand Duke's were as well as the Demon Overlord. I also had to tell them how exactly Demon Hearth Crystals were obtained and what they were used for as well as some other random bits and bobs. I as real tired of speaking constantly and wanted to just leave but they still held me back for a bit.
Guildmaster shuffled some notes he had been taking and said "Nearly done Zane. You have been very helpful to us. I just want to know how the hell that corrupt mage got his hands on a Demon Hearth Crystal if according to you they can only be gained from the Demonic Realm. He clearly has a source. Are there kingdoms with stockpiles of these weapons of mass destruction?"
I was confused on that fact myself to be honest. How did he get his hands on a Demon Hearth Crystal to begin with? I don't think any country has any stockpiles of that stuff left and even if they did I highly doubt they would know what it did after all these years. I started to remember that this world runs on a different scale of time than my world but that didn't solve my problem. I cocntinued to think when Alfred spoke said something that answered one question and created several others.
"That man mentioned the 'Demonic Hand' when he was dying. Do you think that this is some cultist organization that worships demons or something? Maybe there's actually several people pulling the strings here and he was just a footsoldier so to speak Now there's a thought. Corrupt mages that worship demons and work together towards one goal, that would mean the destruction of a kingdom or two if left to grow into a bigger problem."
We went on to discuss some other information and bounced some ideas back and forth. We eventually settled on the theory that the Demonic Hand was an organization run by corrupt mages and demon worshippers trying to sough chaos in the world. We didn't know their exact goal but we knew it involved taking over cities and making them into monster producing factories or for something else. The guildmaster decided that he would tell the others from the adventurers guild and organize an investigation into this. Alfred suggested that they tell the king and have him also look into the matter, to which the guildmaster brightened up.
"If there's anyone who can help crack down on this cult its that joker! Man I might even start feeling sorry for those fools after he gets his hands on them! Haha, With him helping it'll be solved that much sooner." He gathered the rest of his notes and put several things away and said "Anyway's I have a lot of paperwork to do and the sooner I finish it the sooner I can head out and crack some sku- cough The sooner I can help with the investigation with whatever is necessary. Yeah lets go with that."
We were shooed from his office as he started to grumble about having too much to do and too little time. Alfred chuckled and said "Well I best be off to take care of some of my own things. Hmm I better tell the others about this. That's going to be quite a bother to get ahold of them all."He jumped and landed on a roof and soon dashed away out of sight. I just relaxed and took a deep breath.
"Finally! God damn that took forever. It was so damn annoying trying to remember that lore and boring crap. My legs were starting to hurt from sitting around all day too." I stretched my arms as I walked outside and say that The forces sent to help the city were already putting the city back together. Over half of the damaged buildings and roads were fixed and all of the dead corpses were cleaned up. Sadly that also meant my army of undead were also cleaned up. "Ah well it's fine. I didn't put much effort into them to be honest. It doesn't bother me that much. I still have a bunch of other supplies to use in case shit hits the fan so its all good."
"I wonder if I should head to that dungeon we were about to head to before all this nonsense happened. Yeah lets do that. Can't wait to bash some golems! I need the levels too." I headed towards the inn with purpose in my steps. "Alright its decided. We'l be heading into that dungeon and hunting golems then. Lets do this!"
