I crept behind the group as they walked on, with a very angry captain and a very ruthless captain both trying to do things their way. They walked on for a minute or so before they entered a large room with a pond of water in the centre, as well as some magic crystals embedded into the walls. Guarding the room and the crystals were 12 iron golems, 21 stone golems and 1 dense iron golem. The angry captain yelled "Alright form up! Take out those walking meat mashers and be quick about it!" He gave the slaves a once over before unsheathing his sword and getting ready. The guards also similarly got ready but they were behind the slaves. The golems roared in their deep rumbling voices and charged forward like a landslide.
The golems met the slaves and it was safe to say it wasn't pretty. The first slave got a face full of golem fist as another swung his hammer, crushing the hand of the stone golem, before he too got whacked in the chest by a golem fist. The fight continued with the guards and captains occasionally chipping in when the ranks of slaves were getting pushed too hard. The big captain was really putting in his moneys worth though. It seems as if he cared about the slaves to an extent.
"Well this looks like as good a time as any to interrupt." I pulled my hood down further to make sure my face was concealed and even tied some cloth around my face like a bandana, covering most of my face. "Alright you brainless noodleheads, go smash up the guards and the golems but leave the slaves alone." I used magic to order the undead to ensure they actually understood my order and didn't just slaughter everything. I had been resurrecting more and more fodder goblins as well as whatever soul caged goblins I could. I even experimented on a single ogre. The results were great, with the ogre being rather powerful but at the same time, the 30 minute lifespan was still there. The zombies charged in silently and were almost there before a guard turned around while resting and screamed.
"Why the hell is there undead here?! The hell?!" That got the attention of everyone, which resulted in a slave or 2 getting their faces mashed to pulp by a golem, grabbing the attention of the slaves yet again. The guards turned around and started to hack away at the goblin undead, sending black blood spraying throughout the room as they hacked them to pieces. That is until someone met one of the soul caged.
The guard went to cut it in half like the other undead he had killed but was surprised when the undead dodged and slashed at him with its claws. The surprised guard was brought back to reality as he heard the screeching of the undead's claws on his armour. He slashed horizontally at it but the tough body of the soul caged undead stopped the blade half way through it, somewhere in the middle of its torso. The guard was about to pull his sword out when I decided to give the command.
"Do it!" I screamed, catching the attention of the guards a second before an explosion rocked the room. The soul caged undead with the sword stuck in it self destructed, killing itself and sending the guard next to it flying. The guard unfortunately was alive and only had some soot on his armour as well as a set of deep scratches on his chest and a dented arm. He coughed a bit and got up shakily before being besat upon all sides by goblin undead. I was unsure whether I should be happy or be angry at the results.
On one hand the soul caged undead did far more damage but they had a lifespan and cost more materials. "Man why does the good stuff have to be expensive and limited? This blows, I really need to do soem research on extending the lifespan of the soul caged undead..."
I was mid-thought when I felt the hairs on my back raise up. I jumped to the left as fast as I could and erected a barrier using mana instantly. There was a loud crash sound as a mace slammed into the ground next to me. I looked over and saw the big guard staring at me angrily and lifting his mace from the crater in the stone.
He hefted his mace up and looked at me while saying "So you're the cause of this invasion of undead. Well, tough luck cause I'm going to have to tell you to LEAVE!" As he finished his sentence he swung his mace at me at incredulous speed. I almost couldn't see it as it catapulted towards me. I jumped backwards but wasn't fast enough as it impacted my barrier. The barrier cracked and nearly shattered in the first hit!

"How much god damn strength to you have? Did you just pump all your time into becoming beefman? seriously..." As I responded I had taken my sword out and was channelling a spell as well. The ice shards I summoned flung forwards at the big captain while I activated mana drain. The spell started to drain the mana out of the big captain as well as a few soldiers within range. The spell got to work as it robbed them of their mana and gave it to me. I kept firing ice shards this way, like a machine gun and was belt-fed by the enemies mana.
"You have a surprisingly large amount of mana for a muscled mace wielder than most would expect." He grimaced a bit as the mana drain did its job while the ice shards pummeled him. He dodged a couple but the sheer intensity I was outputting was more than he could dodge or block entirely. As I was readying my sword for a swing I felt that dangerous sensation again. I instantly redoubled my efforts to repair and improve my barrier and scrambled to the side and not a moment too soon.
Where I once was standing I now saw a smouldering crater. The crater was very hot and I saw that my barrier was barely holding on. This wasn't going as well as I planned .I had hoped to sit behind my minions and let them do the work for me. "Speaking of minions are they done yet?"
Nope, they weren't On top of having to fight the guards, they were fighting the golems and trying to keep them alive. Fighting the golems being a loose term. It was more like them clawing, punching and biting any enemy near them. Over 2/3's of my lesser undead were slaughtered or turned to meat paste by this point, with the other half fighting the guards and trying to do whatever damage they could. To their credit though, they had killed 2 guards, by tearing them to pieces or more often, blowing them to pieces. The lesser undead were keeping them busy while the soul caged undead would then run in to fight or simply prime themselves to explode within 30 seconds and kamakazi the guards. This worked for a while but the most it resulted in was 2 dead guards and 8 rather damaged suits of armor. The 8 guards were starting to look haggard and tired, with the guards being continuing to hack away.
It seemed the golems were not faring well either as they had gotten nearly annihilated, with the combined efforts of the goblin undead and slaves. Half of the slaves were already dead which made me a bit annoyed but I just sighed and said to myself "I didn't plan to save them in the first place so I shouldn't really care but whatever." I was still; dodging the attacks of the big captain as he swung his ever present and very much deadly mace, leaving craters wherever he slamed that thing. He was looking rather tired and annoyed, wheezing and sweating profusely as he roared out at me.
"Come at me you coward! Is this all you got necromancer? I thought you were supposed to be some almighty undead overlord, not some weak willed panzy!" The attempt at making me go lose my cool didn't phase me in the slightest as another mace slammed into my barrier, shattering it completely. The big guy looked at me in happiness as he laughed and said "No more running now huh you bloody necromancer. It's me and you now. Just one squishy necromancer versus a mace wielding maniac while your army is unable to come to your aid."
He smiled in victory while bringing his mace down at me in blinding speed. I just laughed as I hopped backwards and channeled mana to fire my Chilling Shardblast. I laughed as the mace slammed into the hard stone, sending shards of stone flying yet again and fired my spell. The captain looked wide eyed as he brought his left arm tot cover his face and attempted to get out of the way. He was too slow and over a dozen sharp ice shards slammed into his armor, piercing into it but not punching through completely. He looked at the shards of ice embedded into his armour and dashed forwards a second later but saw me smiling with black mana oozing out of me, wrapping around goblin corpses.
I laughed once again as I remembered all of the epic pvp's I had during my time in the game and looked straight at the charging mass of meat while smiling and said "Who said those were all of my undead you meatball?" I was starting to have a bit too much fun with this whole fight thing, quickly losing focus of my actual target of rescuing slaves and started enjoying myself, revelling in the fight. This battle wasn't over yet. Far from it.
