I sat in the alleyway and started to use a skill I was very familiar with using. Good ol Raise Undead. It was different from Basic Undead Summoning because this skill required a corpse to cast, whereas the other spell just used pure mana to create the undead. The upside to this spell was that it retained more skills from the monster when it was alive and even gave it stat boosts depending on how high ranked your skill was. My spell wasn't even on my list of usable skills because I hadn't used it yet in this world for obvious reasons. That didn't mean I didn't know how to cast it, so I got down to it and started using the spell right away.
A black magic circle appeared under the pile of 50 goblins I was using as a test. I had a lot of goblin corpses so 50 as a test was no biggie. The black spell circle started to be inscribed with runes all along the edges and inside the circle as well. They got more and more intricate as I remembered what each one meant and where they went. The spell circle started emitting a pitch-black glow that seemed to suffocate any nearby light. Soon tendrils of shadowy goop raised out of the circle and dove into corpses, completely embedding themselves into the corpses. about 10 corpses simply exploded into meat and blood causing me to swear.
"God damn this spell. It's supposed to be a beginner spell you learn at like level 25. It's so much harder to control than I remember it to be."
I stopped talking and redoubled my efforts on the spell. 10 more corpses exploded and got wasted before the tendrils finished their business. I then inputted a sliver of mana into each corpse's body and smiled as my spell succeeded. I laughed maniacally while saying "Rise my minions RISE!" like some weirdo. I remembered that I was trying to be stealthy and stopped blabbering and watched as the 30 goblin corpses got up and stood in front of me in a disorderly mess. I mentally gave them an order and the mana inside them responded. The goblin corpses went to hide in various buildings nearby and got out of the way.
I pulled out another 100 goblin corpses and got to work. It was time to raise an army.
~~~
I had finished raising as many zombies as I could and had around 370 goblin zombies and 72 ogre zombies. I had run out of mana several times and had to use mana drain on goblins or ogres my zombies captured and brought to me. I was frowning because I wasn't able to use the spell to raise the Horbrot Splitter yet. Even though I had officially gotten the spell and I had spent the effort to upgrade it to the Lesser tier it still wasn't enough.
"Ah well. Guess I can't have everything. Now to delegate some tasks for you numb skulls."
I looked at the zombie horde in front of me and gave them simple orders to ignore any humans and attack only monsters that were in the city. They were also told not to react even if they were attacked by humans and only attack adventurers half heartedly if they were attacked first. They would let the humans flee and leave them be. It would look way too suspicious if they just ignored humans completely after all. I also had to be specific with low level zombies so I spent around 3 minutes essentially programming their brains with what to do and not to do. Low level undead were such a pain. "I can't wait till I can use higher tier undead again. The Smile Maker was one of my favourite undead to use. Oh that and the Death Knight. Gotta love the classic Death Knights."
I then got the undead to go about their tasks and unleashed the 4 undead ogres with orders to chase and attack me but not kill any humans, just wound. I ran back to the other adventurers and screamed.
"Help! Ogres! Theres 4 of em chasing me!" I ran while trying my best to look panicked. I bet I was failing horribly but I just ran cause the ogres nearly whacked me on the head. Several arrows and spells flew at the ogres but they shrugged them off and kept running after me, gaining on me. They had a few burnt spots and chunks of meat missing but didn't care. A couple of warriors ran past me and a shield bearer shield bashed an ogre while the others hacked at the ogres. They made quick work of them and only got a couple of dents on their armour in return.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
"Hold on a second, these guys are undead. Why the hell are there undead here?" said one of the warriors who was a bit more observant than the rest. They looked at me as if expecting answers so I responded with an answer I had cooked up beforehand.
"I don't know man. I was off collecting corpses like I was doing during the battle and I rounded a corner to see these guys hobbling around aimlessly. I booked it the second I saw em but they noticed me and nearly freaking took my head off. How the hell am I supposed to know where they came from?"
The shield bearer looked at me and said "Fair point. The question now is are they coming from outside of the city, being summoned by those crystal things, or is there a necromancer helping the god damn corrupted mage now as well."
He looked as if he wanted to rip someone a new one and yelled. " As if we don't have enough on our plates already! Gimmie a break man!"
The group walked away and started spreading the news of undead and a possible necromancer. Ronia and the others saw me and quickly walked towards me.
"There you are! Where the hell did you go and why were you gone so long?" Ronia looked angry and worried at the same time while Ray was just laughing at my misery. I sat there and got scolded by Ronia for a while before she said "Anyways, enough about that I suppose. We need to get the information on where the monsters are coming from to the guild. I already told Samuel about this and he seems to be thinking of how to handle this."
We were cautiously but quickly heading to the guild after saying goodbye to Samuel and the other adventurers. Some others had left and gone to help clear out the city in large parties while others stayed to get tended or rest or simply felt like it was safer in numbers. We were dispatching any goblins and occasional ogre we came across. There were several roars and growls echoing around us. We came across a couple of battle scenes.
It seemed that my undead were putting in some work as there were around 30 dead goblins and 3 dead ogre's. 1 of the ogres and 10 of the goblins were undead corpses while the rest were normal corpses. It was easy to tell. Normal corpses didn't have pitch black eyes with no whites in them. They also didn't bleed black shadow liquid.
Ronia clicked her tongue and looked annoyed. "More damn undead. At least they are killing the monsters for us so that's a plus. That still won't stop me from tearing them to shreds though." We kept walking and stepped over the corpses. I didn't stuff all of the bodies into my inventory since we were rushing and the fact that they barely held any value. We were off when I heard another loud roar in the distance. One that we had heard before. It caused us all to jump and look in that direction in slight fear.
Ray said what we were all thinking. "Another Horbrot Splitter... Just how many of those things are there? Hey Zane, didn't you say they are rare to see and that you would have to search for days or possibly weeks to find a single one in the sewers? How come there's so many?"
I fired an ice shard at a goblin that got in sight and replied while lightly jogging. "Dunno man. The corrupted mage probably found a way to control them or lure them out of the sewers. It definitely isn't normal for them to just walk up to the surface. Ever. Hell it's rare enough to find a single one of them go anywhere near the surface. They hate being so exposed to danger like that so it's especially odd for this to occur."
Ronia was walking in silence when she spoke up and informed us all with a worried tone. "Guys, I see the guild up ahead but it doesn't look pretty."
I couldn't see what she was talking about and only saw a crowd in front of the adventurers guild off in the distance, but she followed up her previous statement, clearing up my confusion.
"There's a horde of ogre's in front of the guild, and guess what. It seems the corrupted mage is there himself, leading the attack. It doesn't seem good for the guild's side, judging by all of the wounded and dead adventurers."
Ray looked like he was ready to explode from anger and I swear I saw his eyes change colours for a second. He was pretty much fuming when he heard that the corrupted mage was there. He clenched his weapon tighter and practically spat out his next words. "Corrupted mage... I swear I'll slaughter every one of your ilk! None of you will live! NOT AFTER WHAT YOUR KIND DID BACK THEN!"
Ray was charging ahead screaming bloody murder while Herald and Ronia ran with him, half to join the fight and half to keep the fool from getting himself killed. I on the other hand was standing in confusion as I thought over what I just saw. "No...i'm just hallucinating. That's not possible. My eye's are just playing tricks on me. Oh shit they got real far ahead of me! Hey, Wait up for me! Don't leave me behind!"
I was sprinting after the others, all the while shoving down my rampant thoughts. Ray's eyes couldn't possibly have changed colours, and even if they could they definitely wouldn't have turned that colour. Those freaks had been wiped out ages ago.
