Chapter 692:
He forced the dagger down until it was inches over her chest, ready to end her life at any moment.
But Allison matched his strength, maintaining her ironclad grip on the dagger.
“It’s not over until the end.”
They wrestled, the blade twisting, its deadly tip wavering between one throat and the other.
In the dim light, the silver-haired boy she once knew seemed unrecognizable. He was no longer subject 005. Whatever experiments he’d undergone had turned him into something more — a weapon.
The blade caught a stray beam of light from a crack in the door, and it illuminated Allison’s eyes, dark and fiery.
The intensity in her gaze halted Verruckt for a heartbeat.
“You…”
For a fleeting moment, he saw someone else: subject 001, the girl who had defeated him long ago, the one who had perished on that forsaken island.
The distraction cost him. Allison capitalized on the moment, driving her blade toward his chest.
Verruckt twisted at the last second, trying to dodge it, but it was too late. The dagger bit deep into his shoulder, sending a spray of blood across the room.
With a grunt, Allison rolled free, springing onto the bed to use the angle to finish him off.noveldrama
But Verruckt read her move and countered instantly, diving for a fallen dagger nearby.
The dance resumed. In the art of killing, they were perfectly in sync, like two clones of each other.
Verruckt grinned through the pain. “Impressive. You’re the second person to wound me like this.”
Hand clasped around his dagger, he lunged and slashed at Allison, the blade biting into her arm.
Allison hissed, both combatants retreating to opposite corners of the room, blood staining the floor between them.
It was a draw now.
Verruckt’s eyes glowed with a feral light as he leaned against the wall, ignoring the blood dripping from his shoulder. “So, you’re the one Immortality Pharmaceuticals sent to steal secrets,” he said.
Although it sounded like a casual remark, Allison recognized the intent behind Verruckt’s words. He was probing, fishing for information. She adjusted her tone, adopting a flippant air. “I’m just a nobody who happened to stumble upon all your dirty little secrets.”
