Chapter 37

Hendrix's gaze didn't linger on Noelle, as if he had no interest in knowing why she was there. Instead, he stood rooted to his spot, waiting for... Sandra.

After a glance, Noelle withdrew her gaze and asked Sandra, 'What do you want?"

Sandra begged. "Come home with me, Noelle. Don't fight with Mom and Dad anymore, alright?"

"Sorry, but I'm not going back" Noelle was adamant.

Not giving up just yet, Sandra turned to Evelyn. "Are you Noelle's friend? Would you please tell her to

"She's an adult. She doesn't need you worrying about her decisions, okay?" Evelyn said after a chuckle. Stumped, Sandra quickly responded, "But Mom and Dad are sad! Noelle, can you really watch them lose appetite and sleep over worrying you? How can you be this heartless".

Then, tears began rolling down her face. That sight impressed Evelyn. "You've got quite an acting talent. Have you ever considered joining the entertainment industry?"

Her sarcastic question baffled Sandra.

Before she could say anything, Noelle dragged Evelyn away. "Let's go."

"Noelle!" Sandra refused to give up this chance, extending her hand to pull Noelle.noveldrama

However, Noelle had dodged her grip ahead of time. Surprisingly, Sandra was feeble enough to miss her and fall to the ground.

This time, Hendrix finally stepped in. He approached with hurried steps and helped Sandra up.

"I'm fine, Rix. Don't be mad at Noelle," she said.

"Rix... As in Hendrix?" Evelyn quickly grasped the situation her eyes darting to him. "You're Noelle's ex- husband?"

"Come on. Let's go." Noelle refused to drag out this fight. She grabbed Evelyn's hand, urging her to leave, but Evelyn remained unmoved.

Her gaze fixed on Hendrix, who was holding Sandra's hand "What's going on here? A play or moral dilemma? An affair between the in-laws, huh?"

"What nonsense!" Sandra instantly refuted, "Rix and I... have nothing going on!"

"A man and a woman appearing on a street like this at this hour. Nothing going on, your say? The ink on your divorce decree is barely dry!"

While speaking, Evelyn turned to Noelle, her tone full of resentment. "I don't blame you for fantasizing about his death anymore. Who wants a man like this?"

Noelle wanted to stop her, but Hendrix suddenly spoke, "Ms. Swanson."

His voice was so cold that it made Noelle shudder slightly. When she looked up, she met his emotionless eyes.

"I'd like it if your friend could be mindful of her words."

He stated flatly, "Also, Sandra is only worried about you. This isn't a matter of your upbringing, but you should at least have some decency."

"Have some decency, huh?" Evelyn was ready to lunge at Hendrix, but he spared her no glance and left with Sandra.

Meanwhile, Noelle stood still, her hands clenching into fists. She couldn't help but commend Hendrix's ability to hurt her after everything.

She thought she had built a wall to protect herself from him, but with a single sentence, he crumbled it. Worse still, his words struck at the very core of her heart.
