Chapter 136

"Mr. Freeman?" asked the person on the other end of the call, puzzled while waiting for Hendrix's re "I understand," Hendrix replied curtly before hanging up.

response.

He then turned his gaze back to Noelle and asked, "What are you doing?"

His voice seemed calm but carried an unmistakable tension

"Packing up. I'm heading to Coppersville," Noelle replied, as if she noticed nothing unusual. She continued fastening the lock on her suitcase without looking up.

His expression remained unreadable. "What do you mean?

She finally raised her head, offering a faint smile. "Since M. Wright is already here, it wouldn't be appropriate for me to stay, would it?"

Hendrix narrowed his eyes slightly at her words.

"Isn't she your fiancée?" Noelle asked.

Her question prompted him to let out a soft chuckle. "So, are you jealous?"

"No," she said, lowering her gaze. How could she be? She didn't have that right.noveldrama

He said nothing more. He casually tossed his jacket aside and lit the cigarette between his fingers. The smoke spiraled upward, gradually fading into nothing, but the faint scent of mint lingered in the air. Noelle stood there and watched him silently.

After a while, Hendrix finally said, "Yvonne and I won't get married. Right now, our relationship is purely a business arrangement. Once our collaboration ends, there will be nothing between us. So, there's no need for you to concern yourself with her."

His tone was casual, almost dismissive.

Noelle studied him for a long moment before asking, "What about me?"

Her question made his hand pause mid-motion. He lifted his eyes to meet hers.

She stared back at him steadily and added, "What is the relationship between us?"

"Noelle," Hendrix said, his voice colder now. "Are you asking me for a title?"

He chuckled softly and continued, "Don't forget. You were the one who asked for the divorce."

She could have been his wife-legitimately.

He looked at her and said, "The Freeman family isn't a place you can come and go as you please. If you were pregnant, that would be a different story, but you're not, are you?"

The meaning behind his words was crystal clear. He had no ntention of reconciling with her. The proposal to remarry earlier had only been for the sake of a child. In his eyes, there was no real difference between her and Yvonne.

No, that wasn't entirely accurate. Yvonne, at least, provided him with benefits and assistance, while she was nothing more than a tool to him. In that sense, she was even more insignificant than Yvonne. Hendrix sat down on the couch and continued, "So-

Souldn't be here at all." Noelle interrupted him, her voice calm but firm.

She added, "Even if your relationship with Ms. Wright is one of mutual exploitation, she is still your fiancée. To you. I'm just a tool. If my presensor ruins your partnership with her, that would be a loss too great to hear.

"And besides I'm just a tool. There are so many women out there who would throw themselves at you as long as you want to. From what I've seen, Ms Wright seems deeply infatuated with you.

"If the two of you can make it official, it would actually be perfect outcome. As for us... we should have ended

When she finished speaking, Hendrix's fingers, which had been holding the cigarette, suddenly tightened.
