"And you are? You said you've already called the police, right? It's been quite a while, so why hasn't anyone arrived yet? Should I make a call instead? Maybe I can also request the surveillance footage," Dan said.

"No, forget it! I'll just chalk it down to me being unlucky!"

With that, the man turned and walked away.

Dan didn't stop him. Instead, he took out his phone and snapped a photo of the man's license plate. Then, he turned to Noelle and asked, "Ms. Swanson, are you alright? Do you need me to take you to the hospital?"

"No, thank you," Noelle replied, then walked away without another word.

Even though the pain in her calf persisted, she didn't stop. She simply limped out of sight. When she reached a quiet spot, she went into a pharmacy to buy some basic first-aid supplies.

"How did you get yourself scrapped so badly? It looks like you might need a tetanus shot," the store clerk said, eyeing the wound on her leg. "It's pretty serious."

"It's fine. Just give me some gauze and disinfectant for now I'll go to the hospital to get the shot later." Since Noelle already made up her mind, the clerk didn't press further and quickly rang up her items.

As she left, the clerk glanced at the spot where she had been standing, as if worried Noelle might have dirtied the floor.

Noelle silently quickened her pace. But the moment she stepped out of the pharmacy, she froze, her eyes fixed

ahead.

Hendrix was standing not far away.

The black luxury sedan was parked quietly behind him. The sun was setting, its rays filtering through the tree branches and casting a soft glow on his face, highlighting his sharp, chiseled features.

He was as striking as ever. In the golden light, he looked like a character straight out of a comic book. The slight curve of his lips was still familiar to Noelle. After all, she had drawn it countless times before-so much so that the male leads in her comics always carried a shadow of him.

Her readers called it her signature style. But only Noelle knew it was a habit she couldn't shake. She also knew how disheveled she must have looked right now.

If this were one of her comics, and he were the male lead, she might have felt embarrassed or awkward. After all, she could tolerate anyone seeing her in such a state-except him.

But strangely, she didn't feel that way. In fact, the only thing she felt at that moment was calmness.

After holding his gaze for two seconds, she looked away as if nothing had happened and continued walking.

But the next instant, Hendrix's voice cut through the air. "Where do you live? I'll take you home."

Noelle paused.

Despite the occasional passersby and the noise of the traffic, his voice was crystal clear and impossible to ignore.

Noelle stopped and looked at him:noveldrama

Hendrix stood there, his gaze steady as he held hers, as if he was certain she would get into the car.

But she simply replied, "No. I don't want to trouble you. I can manage on my own."

With that, she turned away.

This time, she didn't bother to see his reaction, nor did she have the time. Not wanting to keep Rosie waiting, all she wanted was to get home quickly and grab what she needed.
