Chapter 85: Medieval logistic

To ensure the villagers' happiness, elder Shadyna will embark on a journey!

Wait, no! I am not old~!

_ Elri: Don't daydream too long. There's a lot to move.

Even though she is so good-looking, my elven mentor does not understand a young girl's delicate heart at all~

_ Miel: So this is the infamous hive of debauchery I have heard about…

_ Elri: That would be your workplace!!! This is my private house!

_ Miel: The infamous hive of debauchery where no one can interfere…

_ Elri: Is the darn upper floors you girls built!

Maybe I should clean up the cafeteria's reputation before starting this journey, just saying…

A~nyway, our main objective today is to acquire the furniture for our new settlement. As the leader of our new floating village, I can't have my villagers (guild members) stay in an empty house, can I? A well-stocked kitchen, a tidy bedroom, and a clean bathroom are all essential to a happy and easygoing lifestyle in the virtual world!

It would be a waste to throw away our existing facilities however, namely our private houses and the cafeteria's top floor where we placed enough beds for the whole guild to sleep together at the same time. That's why we are going to collect any usable furniture before selling the houses we don't need anymore.

Coincidentally, we are going to convert said top floor to a new office for non-[Cooking] services. It's time we got one to keep up with the increasing number of services we provide. That, and it would help dispelling the rumors about the top floor being a weapon research center, according to Hessy.

Look here you paranoid weirdoes, just because the tavern waitresses are all weapons of mass destruction doesn't mean we are developing another one in the attic! If I for some inexplicable reason needed to, I would make it in a basement where it wouldn't stand out in the first place!

_ Elri: By the way, , are you not doing the Raid Breaker today?

Before anyone asks, no, I am not breaking any raid. Others do.

It's the official name for our newest support service. When requested, I visit the nearest village under attack by the wandering horde and buff some parties so they can fight off the raid better. Local defenders with my siege engines can keep the horde at bay during day time, so this was intended to be an infrequent side gig for me to get some coins and skill experience while helping the weaker guilds catch up to the lategame meta. Easy enough, right?

It was, in fact, not easy.

Despite the high cost, it became quite obvious that the loot and experience would be more than worth it, many times over. Words spread like wildfire and everyone started placing their orders the moment they grinded enough to pay. The waiting list became so long, I had to limit it to only one request per day, or I would be stuck casting support spells for the rest of my virtual life!

There's also growing so sick of sorting out the trash drops after each raid, they told us to rent out the Raid Breaker Engines and split the profits. Now all of the participants are bloodthirsty marauders hell-bent on killing everything in their sight to make the most out of their investment!

Needless to say, the hordes never stood a chance. The current meta is to wipe the horde in 15 minutes so that they only have to pay for my magic buffs once. Although I'm happy to have more time doing what I want, my tribute to materialism decreased as a result!

Well, it works out in the end, for the most parts. The small guilds get a massive power-up, the market doesn't collapse from raid farming 24/7, I get some stipends, and most importantly, all of us do not have to worry about the raid breaking stuff until it respawns!

…The dark legions that once doomed civilization has been downgraded to a daily chore. Oof~

_ Shadyna: *Shakes head* Hessy said we wouldn't do Raid Breaker on patch days.

She said something about balance, supply and demand, and other complicated meta things in her explanations. The topics were beyond this young half-elf me though~

_ Miel: Balance patches can change how the raid works. We handle the raid ourselves on patch days to adjust the price accordingly.

It's about the money?!

_ Elri: Is that so… I wasn't informed of that.

_ Miel: Your first shift will be next week's patch.

_ Elri: I wasn't informed of that though?!

How to know if you are getting along with other guild members: Get assigned for duties like it's natural!

_ Miel: You shouldn't mind little details.

_ Elri: That's not little… Speaking of which, the raid was mentioned in today's patch, wasn't it?

_ Miel: Yes. That is why I said my goodbyes to the party before they left.

_ Elri: Don't kill off your colleagues like that!

Death flags aside, I'm pretty sure even our squishiest members can't be one-hit by anything short of a unique boss. They can always [Recall] if that somehow happens anyway.

_ Shadyna: I'm sure they will be fine~ The new logistic features are more concerning in my opinion.

Similar to the raid changes, logistics is the other one in today's patch notes. As a crafting (?) guild, this may affect our whole supply chain more than anything else.

That being said, I didn't hear screeching screams of agony in world chat upon login. Whatever the changes are, they probably are not that impactful. Most of us go on with our work for the new village as normal, while the girls working the counter are figuring out the actual changes.

_ Elri: Right… Moving furniture is also logistics, isn't it?

_ Miel: We can always put everything into 's inventory as a last resort.

What am I, your pickup wagon?!

An hour later, my inventory is filled with wardrobes, tables, beds, and other furniture that normal people would consider leaving behind or hauling to this game's equivalent of a horse-drawn carriage.

Forget about being last, my inventory was used as the first resort!

_ Elri: Only the basement left. , is it safe to enter?

…Why is that even a question? This is YOUR house on paper you know?

_ Elri: Drop that dubious look. I gave you full rein in the basement so that you can perform whatever experiment you want, remember? It's been a while since I last entered and I don't know if you have something which can trigger a [Luminous Firestorm] lying around on the floor.

_ Shadyna: How rude~! Even I wouldn't do something like that!

_ Elri: Oh?

_ Shadyna: If I accidentally blow up the basement, the items in containers will go into my inventory and I will be crushed to death by the weight!

_ Elri: …You have a point.

Well duh~

Ignoring our casual discussion about workplace safety, barges through the door without the slightest hesitation.

Elri should learn from her. That is what trust in my pacifism should look like!

_ Elri: That's one irritating smug face.

_ Shadyna: Ehehe~

From the door, the stoic waitress pokes back out again.

_ Miel: , I couldn't find it.

Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on the original website.

_ Shadyna: Hm? Find what?

_ Miel: Your *BEEP* stash.

…Da heck?

*BONK*

_ Miel: Ow.

_ Elri: This is an all-age game, you depraved maniac!!!

_ Shadyna: , paper magazines are not immersive.

_ Elri: Why is that part the problem?!

Well, even if I were to store immersive indecent books that somehow bypassed Sateri's filters, I would put them in a container first and foremost. Not that I have any in this game, mind you.

Contrary to other rooms, the basement is used as my personal research center, so there's not much furniture to speak of. Although we will go through everything just to be sure, I doubt we will use anything here to furnish our new home.

_ Elri: , what's this [Fortified home of the fireflies]?

…That's not furniture.

_ Shadyna: It's just something I picked up at Schennul's place~

_ Elri: The first Magnus Bestia? …Got it.

Hey, Elri, why are you making that expression of someone who has too many questions to ask but decides that it's best to stay silent~? This cute pacifist would never harm someone for asking a question you know?

_ Miel: *Fake gasps* This is…!

That surprise gasp was so fake, I have a nagging feeling that she's trying to troll me instead of pretending to be surprised out of consideration!

_ Elri: You know what it is?

_ Miel: I wasn't there that day, but it was big news for us in guild chat. Because the strongest boss ever seen in the game was protecting it, many of us were dying to know what secrets it held.

Knowing how they were faring against Schennul during our visit, I have a feeling meant that in a literal sense… Makes me almost feel sorry for snatching (some of) the loots, but only almost.

_ Miel: There were many speculations on the board after its disappearance. The prominent theories are turning it into the lantern, or Lutena, or her breakfast the day after.

Who the heck came up with that last one?! Sure, I did make candies from literal rocks, but that doesn't mean my entire diet is only rocks. The nutrition would be totally out of balance, and I would actually gain weight from all that stony stuff in my stomach!

_ Elri: Whatever you are thinking, it is completely off the mark.

How mean~ I'm sure anyone would gain weight by eating rocks~!

After that, I brought the [Fortified home of the fireflies] as well as [Celestial Divine Plate (Tenri Yassel Artifact)] pieces to the teahouse, where Su and co were dissec… examining Gelly's new form. Although I feel a bit bad to have them work their rears off again to evaluate my assets, they did volunteer for it.

That, and I didn't get much of a power-up from their last attempt. The only advice Su and gave me was using [Devotion] on Lutena to empower her skills with my attributes. It did solve Lutena's biggest issue of having more powerful yet practically weaker skills due to differences in our attributes, but couldn't they have done so without making me go through the training hell that was Sateri's no-damage challenge?!

I don't blame them though. There was no guarantee that they could innovate everything I had at hand. Even if it has changed many times, my main combat tactics is still pretty much the simplistic "hit things at high speed" after all.

_ Elri: I think that's all we got. , the containers are filled with items so we left them as-is. It will be faster to just [Recall] with them to the village and put them to a warehouse.

Just as expected, most of the basement are not of any use for decoration purpose. Anything that is, is already in my inventory.

So heavy~

_ Shadyna: Roger~ Let's move them then! [Mass Recall]!

*FLASH*

With each of us holding onto a container, we all move to the new empty floating island above the forest…

_ Shadyna: …Eh?

…Empty-handed.

Weird. Did we somehow drop the containers?

_ Shadyna: [Recall].

…None.

_ Shadyna: [Teleport].

Nope.

_ Shadyna: Solar Ra…

*BONK*

_ Elri: THAT IS NOT A TELEPORT SKILL!!!

_ Shadyna: I'm sorry~!

It definitely would send everyone in the vicinity back to Tyrel though~

A lot of confusion in guild chat later, we got the gist of the situation.

It was the logistic patch.

To be more specific, containers and wagons are no longer transferred with player during [Recall]. We can now put containers into wagons though, so I won't have to open the containers, pull everything out, then put it back to the wagon at the very least.

I still prefer using [Teleport] with the whole container to the destination to be honest…

_ Elri (Guild): I see… So using wagons and walking to the destination will be more efficient for large amount of goods.

_ Hessy (Guild): Correct. Sateri-chan is most likely encouraging us to create trade caravans. Since you girls are already on it, you should join up with our contractors at the northern gate. They are preparing one to bring construction materials to our village. too, though they will go in a different direction.

Right. Ample Chest is straight north of Tyrel, whereas our village is to the northeast. I suppose we can accompany them halfway. The more the merrier~

…Is there any way I can make them change that city's name? Imagine having to use it in daily conversations for once.

Your favorite location in the game? Ample Chest.

Where do you want to go after school? Ample Chest.

Number one spot to confess? You guessed it. Ample Chest.

…Can I go punch now?

_ Elri: Alright. , you carry the containers of that side. I will prepare the wagon and take care of this side. As for you,

_ Shadyna: Yes~?

_ Elri: Go back to the village and unload your inventory. We will meet you at the gate.

Gah~ I have been abandoned~!

____________

At the northern gate, the bodyguards who left their VIP behind find themselves organizing a massive escort mission with the leadership of .

_ Fuelri: Just how many of them are there?!

_ Miel: …12 wagons, 135 players, 30 NPCs…

_ Fuelri: I'm not asking for a headcount!!!

_ Olkan: Sorry about that. We got words of ambushes from earlier caravans. They don't seem to happen often, but we don't want to take chances.

Rather than a caravan, it's more like a small military convoy going to war, judging by the amount of heavily armed players doing a last check on the wagons.

In fact, the players here are all combat specialists. The squishy crafters who would only get in the way during fights have already arrived at the destination using [Recall]!

_ Fuelri: Ambushes…? Enemies cannot steal items, can they?

_ Olkan: No, they can't. But you don't want to waste time redoing the trip either.

_ Fuelri: Right. That would be a pain. Fine, we'll lead the caravan, but we will go in a different direction later.

_ Olkan: Thank you. That would be a great help.

_ Miel: Taking advantages of girls who happen to go in the same way… As expected of

_ Olkan: Why are you making this weird?! If you girls are going to verbally abuse me, at least have do it!!!

_ Fuelri: Could you NOT look at my chest while saying that?!

_ Shadyna: , I'm going to hit you if you keep harassing Elri you know~?

_ Olkan & Fuelri: AAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!

They both jump back in terror as they realize the presence of a smiling girl who definitely wasn't here seconds ago. And she's holding an ominous black sword to boot.

The brave and honest merchant isn't sure if he's more terrified by that sword, or the usual wriggling blob. That blob is not around today, strangely enough.

_ Olkan: Where in the name of Sateri-chan did you come from?!

_ Shadyna: Eh… From my village…?

_ Olkan: That's not what I… Actually, never mind. Why are you here?

_ Shadyna: *Tilts head* Because I'm going with and Elri?

_ Olkan: *Turns to *…Seriously?

_ Fuelri: Unfortunately, yes.

_ Shadyna: Hey!!!

Even if she is clueless about gameplay, the little girl still has enough awareness to read the room… probably.

Speaking of people who cannot read the room, there's one (fake) gasping at right now.

_ Miel: Taking advantages of underage girls…

_ Olkan: Give me a break already!!!

Ignoring the delicate handsome man on the throne taking heavy mental damage, the strongest convoy is finally heading out!

____________

On a different part of the game world shadowed by the dark spot of the sun, a small party is also preparing. Their last member, a pink-haired hot-headed heroine, has just arrived.

_ Thelia: Sorry for the wait.

_ Falyn: Don't mind, don't mind! The horde hasn't respawned yet.

_ Linista: Evening, .

_ Helen: Welcome back, my princess~!

The four put down a big mattress as their supply depot. To players who are passing by, these girls are having a normal picnic, despite the questionable choice of location. Little do they know, the food baskets there are more expensive than a house in Tyrel, by an order of magnitude.

_ Thelia: …To think we used to hide behind a wall with a hundreds of players just to hold our ground not that long ago. Now we are going to fight them with four people, and none of us uses magic either.

_ Falyn: That's most likely the reason for today's patch. If I were in Sateri-chan's shoe, I would turn every mob into a variant or boss, up their levels to the cap, and then…

*PAWNCH* *WHOMP*

_ Falyn: GUH!!!

The hardcore suggestions were cut short by a low kick and an elbow strike simultaneously.

_ Thelia: Even we would seriously die if she does that!!!

_ Linista: Please keep your masochistic tendencies to yourself. herself had to fight at full power for a whole hour back then because she underestimated Sateri-chan.

_ Falyn: You… didn't have to hit me though…

_ Thelia: …Sorry, force of habit. That reminds me, I haven't repaired my equipment for a while. , you have maxed-out [Enhance] right?

_ Helen: Of course~ Please take off your clothes~

_ Thelia: Like hell I would! Set up a repair shop like a normal person!

_ Helen: Eh~~~~

Today, the girls will enjoy their outing to the fullest as well.

--- Topic: Patch discussion - 1.0df7 ---

## Manly Warrior

Summary:

- Adjusted corruption raid's difficulty.

- Added new contents and adjustments for logistic chains.

- Increased education level of NPCs.

##

## Mage of Sin

Thank you Sateri-chan for the hard work as always! (^o^)/

##

## Fire mage of Justice

Difficulty adjustment, isn't it?

We are going to be soooooo dead, aren't we? (-"-)

##

## Big Hammer

You can't Recall with containers anymore. Had to put everything into inventory and Recall to the client. (;一_一)

##

## GoldBar9999

Welp, there goes the logistic chain. ( ̄□ ̄;)

That's not "adding" new contents, Sateri-chan!

##

## OP alchemist

Uh… can't we just Recall after taking everything into inventory?

##

## StoneHoarder

If you are fine with loading and unloading every single item by yourself, yes. No one will be able to help you because they cannot access your inventory like they do shared containers.

This probably won't affect small shops much, but big guilds with large warehouses or supply chains will save more time by moving the containers on foot.

##

## CuteIsJustice

NPC escort quests now also include new towns as destinations. Sateri-chan is really pushing for more immersive trade routes between towns!

##

## Newbie Charisma build

We just finished a trip with a few wagons and escort quests to The Ranch. It was surprisingly fun walking around and enjoying the scenery. (^▽^)

If you are an extrovert, the NPCs have quite a few things to share too!

##

## Silver Merchant

Mine didn't go as well. A pack of monsters mauled our caravan from the flank. Mobs in that zone didn't group up like that before this patch.

Too much realism, Sateri-chan!!!

##

## GoldBar9999

To be fair, you guys did ask for immersive trading…

BB Conglomerate is preparing a caravan to Ample Chest. Come join us at the north gate if you are going the same way. Safety in numbers.

##

## Silver Merchant

I'll join. Give us a minute to repair our wagon. (~_~)
