Game Room

The next day, Eun-Jeoung woke up and got ready, while Seong remained in bed as he didn't have an assignment to attend. Eun-Jeoung asked, "What are you planning to do today?"

"I've got a lecture at 4 PM. Besides that, I don’t have anything else," Seong replied.

Eun-Jeoung suggested, "You should explore the campus. It's really vast, and you've barely been around."

"Okay, if I get bored, I might go explore the campus," Seong said.

"Alright, I'm heading out. Bye," Eun-Jeoung said.

"Goodbye," Seong replied as Eun-Jeoung left.

After an hour, Seong decided to explore the campus. He freshened up and exited his dorm, heading to the park he had found on his phone's map. Upon arrival, he noticed the park was relatively empty, with people either in groups or couples on morning dates. Seong pondered, 'Do people really spend time together so early? How do they have the energy for that?'

Suddenly, someone came up from behind and playfully exclaimed, "Boo!!" Seong let out a surprised scream, sounding almost like a girl.

The girl laughed at his reaction. "Ha ha ha."

As she chuckled Seong said, "Do you have nothing better to do in the morning?".

The girl apologized, saying, "Sorry, it just looked like you were alone, so I thought I'd try to make your day more interesting."

Seong inquired, “So, you aimed to make it interesting, and you had no fun scaring me?”

The girl playfully admitted, “Okay, maybe a little.”

Seong smirked, saying, “Thought so.”

Curious, the girl asked, “What are you doing here if you're all alone?”

Seong replied, “Can't people come here alone?”

"Normally, it's a spot where friends gather, play sports, or couples spend time," the girl explained.

Seong responded, "I had no idea. It's my first time here, and I was feeling a bit bored, so I decided to explore the campus. I saw this place on the map and thought I'd check it out."

"Ah, got it. Well, if you're alone, you might want to try the game room or the shopping mall," suggested the girl.

Curious, Seong asked, "If people don't usually come here alone, why are you here?"

"Because I enjoy running here," the girl replied.

Seong, somewhat skeptical, questioned, "Isn't there a gym in your building?"

"Yeah, there is, but it feels too congested, and there's a different feeling when you run in nature. That's why I come here," the girl explained.

Thinking about his own experiences, Seong nodded and said, "That's true. Alright, then. Can you show me where the game room is?"

"Sure," the girl responded, pulling out her phone to display the location on her map.

Seong inquired, "After the scare you gave me, can't you take me there?"

The girl shook her head, replying, "No, I have to finish my run."

Seong sighed, "Alright, I'll wait for you. I'm also curious to see what this park has to offer."

With a playful smirk, the girl teased, "Or maybe you just want to see me run?"

Seong retorted with a laugh, "What do you take me for, a pervert?"

"I don't know, maybe you're a weird person," the girl remarked.

Seong chuckled, "If anyone's weird, it's you. Who goes up to a person and says 'boo' in broad daylight?"

"Fair point. I'll take you there," the girl conceded.

As they walked, she asked, "What's your name?"

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

"Seong. What about you?" Seong replied.

She replied, "I'm Sara."

Seong inquired, "Are you a first-year?"

Sara shook her head, responding, "Nope, I'm in the second year."

Seong nodded, "Oh, so you're a year above me."

Sara said, "You're a year below me and speak to me in such a rude manner. Not only that, but you also force me to take you to your destination."

"First of all, I wasn't rude, and I recall you mentioning that you'd be taking me there," Seong retorted.

Sara raised an eyebrow, "Don't you have an assignment to be at right now?"

Seong replied casually, "I used to, but we solved it, so I have a lot of free time."

Sara remarked, "That's incredibly fast. They must have lowered the difficulty from last year."

Seong refrained from commenting on the assignment because he didn’t know what their assignment was like. After another 10 minutes, they arrived at the game center.

"Here's the game center. If that's all you need, I'll be on my way," Sara stated.

"Thank you. Do you want to play a game?" Seong suggested.

Sara declined, saying, "No thanks, I'm busy."

Seong playfully teased, "Or are you scared to lose, senior?" hoping to provoke a reaction from Sara.

That is exactly what happened “Game on but if you lose you will have to do anything I request,"

Seong, intrigued, asked, "Alright, but what do I get in return?"

Sara inquired, "What do you want?"

Seong said, "You have to become friends with a lady who is in second year."

"Why is she lonely like you?" Sara asked.

Seong explained, "I don't know for sure, but she spends a lot of time in the library. It seems like she doesn't have many friends."

Sara pondered, 'Who works in the library and is a second year? I can't think of anyone maybe he got the year wrong if that is the case then I can reject it.' So, she agreed, saying, "Yes."

As they entered the game center, a worker greeted them, saying, "Hello! What game would you like to play: arcade games or virtual reality?"

Arcade games, relics from the early 20th century, were a rarity nowadays. Most arcade developers had either quit or shifted to virtual reality games, which were all the rage.

"We'll do arcade games," Seong decided. He had never tried them before, and virtual reality wasn't his thing due to the usually expensive nature of those games.

Sara was somewhat surprised by Seong's choice. Most people would have opted for virtual reality, as it was more visually appealing and generally offered a more immersive experience. However, Sara secretly preferred arcade games because she often felt nauseous after virtual reality sessions.

Following the worker, Seong explained, "You can play any game in this section, but if you break anything, you'll be charged and banned from the game center."

"Okay," Sara replied, and the worker left them. Seong pondered, "How are we going to decide the winner?"

"We'll play three games. For each game, we'll have a warm-up so neither of us is at a disadvantage. The one with the most wins out of the three games wins the bet," Sara explained.

Seong agreed, saying, "Okay, what game are we going to start with?"

Sara pointed towards the air hockey table. Air hockey is played with a puck, and each player has a striker. The goal is to score points by hitting the puck into the opponent's goal with the striker.

"Let's start with a warm-up game," Sara suggested.

Even though it was just a warm-up game, both Seong and Sara were determined not to go easy. They wanted to establish their dominance early on, aiming to lower the morale of the other person. The score began with Sara taking a 1-0 lead as Seong was still figuring out the strategies for both defense and attack. It swiftly extended to 2-0 and then 3-0, dealing a significant blow to Seong's confidence.

In a turning moment, Seong managed to score a goal, bringing the score to 3-1. However, Sara responded promptly, restoring her lead to 4-1. This setback was a considerable challenge for Seong, who faced a critical decision: try hard to make a comeback or strategically lose to create a false sense of confidence in Sara. Opting for the latter, Seong asked, "Shall we start the real game?"

"We shall," Sara replied, ready for the real game.

As Seong predicted, Sara's movements in the air hockey game slowed down slightly at the start, and he seized the opportunity, taking the first point to lead 1-0. However, Sara quickly regained her usual precision, equalizing the score at 1-1. Seong attempted an aggressive attack to secure another point but ended up scoring an own goal, putting Sara in the lead at 1-2. Capitalizing on Seong's momentarily shaken confidence, Sara earned another point, making it 1-3.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Seong intensified his efforts, winning two consecutive rounds and bringing the score to a tie at 3-3. However, Sara, who had begun Try Harding, won three rounds in a row, widening the gap to 3-6. Seong, feeling a sense of despair, managed to score the next point, bringing it to 4-6. In the end, despite Seong's efforts, Sara secured the final point, winning the game 4-7.

"What happened to all that talk, Seong? Did the cat get your tongue?" Sara teased.

Seong retorted, "It's the first game; we've got two more, so stop acting like you've won."

Sara said, "Okay. You can pick the next game since I chose the first one."

"Alright," Seong agreed, pointing toward Street Fighter 2, a fighting simulator game.

They moved over to the game, and Sara declared, "This is the warm-up game."

The game began, and unlike the previous round where Sara had a slight edge, Street Fighter turned out to be Seong's domain. His mastery of the game was evident as he unleashed a barrage of combos, effortlessly memorizing combo patterns and executing them. Seong decisively won the warm-up game, showcasing his formidable skills.

Moving on to the real game, Sara found herself utterly demolished by Seong. In a remarkable display of prowess, Seong didn't lose a single health point throughout the entire game. The match highlighted Seong's expertise and left Sara in awe of his Street Fighter skills.

Sara remarked, "It felt like I gave you a free win there."

Seong shrugged, "It happens. You're good at some things and bad at some things"

Sara replied, "Alright, the next game shall be..."

Seong interjected, "Hold on, that's not fair. What if you just pick a game that you're already good at?"

Sara questioned, "What should we do then?"

Seong suggested, "Ask the girl over there to pick a game for us to play."

Sara agreed, saying, "Okay," and went over to the girl, asking, "Can you pick a game for us to play?"

The girl pointed to a game in the distance.
