Chapter 23

Sometime passed, and the world of the sky was still endlessly becoming sharper, but still there hadn’t been a single block of the Path made.  Kovinth continued to watch but was starting to get worried.  He knew that he could help show his student Skystone, or diamonds, or Meteorite Obsidian, but it would be a weak Path because it wasn’t truly Owen’s  Path.  It would be a Path created through help.  When one became a Pathwalker, having help was never a bad thing.  But when it came to one’s own Path.  That was unique to them alone.  Only they could create it.

“Then what should I make my Path out of?”

The only thing Owen could say that he knew really well was flowers.  He worked hard with medicinal herbs but that was still a plant as well.  Although he worked hard as a warrior it can’t be said that he knew it better than his monk duties.  Therefore Owen could only think of flowers.  He never thought that flowers were too feminine to like, it was after all life in this world as well.  He didn’t grow them cause they looked nice, it was only because it stimulated his nose and feeling of touch the most.

And because of this Owen made a final decision.  He suddenly started to remember a feeling, not an image, instead he remembered the scent of the lilies perfectly. The way they smelled with morning dew on them.  The way they shook when the droplets of water fell off their petals shaking the scent free.  He remembered the feeling of endless softness but incredible elasticity.  That the petals would rub against the ridges of his finger tips.  The most important part was this feeling that he loved the most.

At this moment, he felt a spark ignite within his mind.  As suddenly the Essence that was coursing through his body rushed to this sudden spark.  Even the dam that Owen had set up on the crystal blew apart and all the leftover Essence was sucked up shot like a lightning bolt straight towards Owen’s subconscious.  As the Essence gathered with that spark as the source it started to condense.  Owen didn’t forget about changing the colour into red and as it started to condense he immediately started to bring out a thin drop of red like liquid to fuse with the block.  As liquid and the Essence started to fuse it the red started to become homogenous with one another.

But something happened that Owen didn’t expect, as the Essence finished condensing into a small block the size his foot, he noticed it was similar to the the Boundary block that Kovinth had created.  This was completely not his intention but he couldn’t help but think to himself.

‘Was this because I didn’t use an image?’

He couldn’t help but wonder.  But now that everything was successful he wasn’t overly worried as he would just ask Kovinth to explain it to him.  As Owen grabbed onto the block, he noticed that it wasn’t hard instead it felt exactly like the petals of the lilies he watered everyday.   But it felt incredibly durable to the point where he was sure it could even take a sword strike and it would concave a bit, but it would soon return back to it’s original form.  Owen wasn’t sure if this was a good thing or not but at the very least he was happy to create his first Path.  He then let go of the block and without his help it dropped down and softly landed on top of a cloud locked itself in place.

Patiently watching Kovinth was starting to get more worried as time went by.  He had already seen that all the Essence from the crystal disappeared, but he wasn’t sure if it was successful or not.  It was very normal to fail creating your first block after all.  It also didn’t require a Essence crystal to create one, however the first block was the foundation and the more Essence this one block contained would mean a stronger Path.

At the same time although he was worried he didn’t dare to bother Owen at this point.  A single thought from Kovinth could break his concentration ruining everything.  But just as Kovinth was starting to sweat from being so tense, Owen opened his eyes.

“Master?”

Owen looked over to Kovinth, seemingly noticing that he was sweating he wasn’t sure what was wrong.  Seeing Owen talk to him Kovinth was jolted out of his anxious state and immediately hugged Owen.  He didn’t care whether Owen was successful or not.  He simply wanted him to be safe.  By simply opening his eyes, that alone was enough for Kovinth to do a quick check to see nothing was wrong.

Owen was startled by the sudden action of his teacher, and he wasn’t even able to remain calm as his heart beat a little faster.  Although they weren’t related by blood, Kovinth treated him like a son.  This alone made Owen feel grateful and as time went on Owen came to think of his master as a father like figure as well.  As Kovinth was nearly strangling Owen with his hug, he felt Owen also hug softly back, or at least he thought it was a hug back but instead Owen started pounding Kovinth’s back because he couldn’t breathe nor could he speak.

“Puah!”

Owen inhaled as much air as he was released from Kovinth.  Kovinth on the other hand awkwardly scratched his temple fully knowing he might have overdone it bit.  But of course he wasn’t going to admit to that.  Instead he only straightened his expression and asked seriously.

“Was it successful?”

Owen nodded.  Kovinth wanted to explode the entire cave and scream to the entire world, ‘HA THIS IS MY DISCIPLE GET IT OSENA’ but he held back after all he might kill Owen if he did such an action.  That was unacceptable for him.  He only asked another question instead.

“What colour was it?  How hard is it?”

“Uh… It’ looks like that red block you made Master, and it’s incredibly elastic.”

“Good! Good! Oh that’s so goo… Wait what?”
