“Grrrrr.”

The spiked bear like beast responded with a growl.  Owen didn’t know whether it was intelligent enough to understand human but it was clear that he pissed it off by raising his voice.  Naturally he only raised his voice slightly.  Deep inside he was still calm, he only felt it best to at least say something before his death right?  Without much thought to his words they kind of just came out.  While Owen was armed with the blade in his right hand and the bell ringing on his left ear.

The sounds of the bell were drowned out just after a few meters from the heavy rainfall. But if it was completely silent Owen had no idea how he would be reacting right now.  Facing the the bear while it only continued to walk back and forth examining its prey.  The silence didn’t need to last for much longer as Owen wasn’t going to wait until the bear was ready and instead he acted himself.

He wanted to make the first move to startle the bear into action, as he thought this he stomped his left foot forward as hard as he could.  The mud exploded under his feet and was sent flying.  The bear expecting Owen to charge forward at that moment also decided to charge at Owen.  But this was where the bear was wrong.  Instead Owen continued to stand there waiting for the bear.  He did not use the stomp to give him an explosive start, but to prepare his next move.

As the bear was only a few meters in front  Owen finally lifted his left leg that was deeply inside the mud.  He kicked his leg forward bringing up massive amounts of mud along with his leg.  As the leg started to curve the mud was flown off straight into the bears oncoming face.  Because the bear was already charging it was unable to dodge the mud.  But even still it didn’t care what was a little mud to a mighty beast such as it self?  Naturally Owen didn’t think the mud would damage it in the slightest.  Luckily for Owen the bear was more stupid than he originally thought.  As the mud successfully blinded the bear for a moment as it swung its head back and forth to remove the mud.  Owen had already disappeared from its sight.

The next moment surprised the bear because it felt a stinging pain in its throat.  Owen had already used this opportunity to move next to it stabbing with all his force.  However, Owen made a huge mistake.  He would never have thought that he would barely pierce an inch into the skin.  Although the wound was bleeding profusely, with a bear this size it definitely wouldn’t die any time soon.  As the bear stopped charging and swatted at Owen with its claws.  Because of the sudden immediate stop Owen was surprised and had to dive out of the way to dodge.  Even with this dodge his leg was nicked and the claws dug into his leg.

Although the bear was not smart, it was strong and had huge amounts of vitality.  Although Owen was smart, he did not have the strength to finish off the bear.  Each of them had their own positives and negatives to their fighting ability.  For such a fight it could be said that only the luckier of the two would survive.  Owen calmed his heart as the pain ignited his calf muscles.  It was still within reason but Owen knew that he didn’t have long till he was unable to continue fighting.  Worst of all he was unable to escape from the bear with a injured leg.  Although it was guaranteed for the bear to also die.  It wouldn’t be anything to be happy about if he died too.

‘What should I do?’

Owen calmly asked himself.  Despite having little time available he wasn’t in a rush.  He still even at death’s door calmly took his time to think things over.  Rushing could potentially get him through the door quicker.  So he did what he always did by acting calm.  Though even if he wanted too he wasn’t given the chance.  As the bear knew it too was running out of time it rushed towards him again.  The only thoughts of the bear was to eat its bear.  Maybe then it would evolve especially with a human as its nourishment.

This action made Owen kind of disappointed.  He was hoping the bear would stop and use its head to think a little.  But while the bear was charging at him, this time Owen only ducked and threw himself to the side completely dodging the bear.  Because Owen was too far for the bear to stop and claw at him anyways it didn’t try to stop its charge and curved its path to return for another charge.

Once again Owen had his back to the cliff with the bear charging forth.  Owen thought for a moment, before quickly deciding his next action.  He immediately walked backwards edging himself to the cliff side.  Without any other option the bear calmly slowed down its approach and only walked forward.  It wasn’t stupid enough to run off the cliff, much to Owen’s disappointment again.

“If you’re going to be stupid, be stupid to the end.”

He couldn’t help but call out to the bear.  Owen only wanted the bear to happily throw itself off the cliff.  It wasn’t much to ask, at least Owen thought so.  Unfortunately knowing full well he was at finale of the battle he prepared himself for one last strike.  As the bear stood up on its hind legs and roared.

“GRRRRRRRRR!”

The roar echoed in the rain as it continuously poured down. But even still the roar was drowned out only a dozen meters away.  But this didn’t bother the bear, as it only roared to announce its victory.  But how could Owen let the bear have its victory so easily?  AS the bear slashed down with the final strike, Owen brought up the blade to counter.  It wasn’t to block, but to counter.  He held the back edge of the blade with his left hand, and found the crack between the bear's claws as they collided.  The sword dug itself deeply into Owen’s hand nearly cutting it in two.  But the same happened to the bear as the impact caused the bear to have the web of it's claws slashed through.

Immediately feeling the pain the bear left released most of its strength allowed for Owen to successfully block the attack.  It the bear wished to sacrifice his arm, then Owen would sacrifice his own.  The pain caused Owen’s face to twitch but he was steady.  He had already prepared to lose his hand if it meant surviving.  But the bear?  It felt pain and instantly cowered back.  But this was Owen’s chance.  As the bearwas unsteady on its hind legs and its hand still hadn’t retreated, Owen grabbed the bear’s arm and pulled with all his strength.

Even by using the bears own gravity to help, it still took Owen’s entire strength for it to gain momentum.  As the bear was falling over, its massive body would still collide with Owen’s throwing the both of them off the cliff.  But even still, knowing fully well that this cliff would be his final moments he would still achieve victory.  He might die with his opponent but he caused the winning blow.  That was victory to Owen. The bear roared as it and Owen fell off the cliff into the abyss below.  Only the heavy impact of the rain could be heard, washing away all traces of a life and death battle.
