I'm Sorry

Evan would wake in a dark void. He saw… Fredbear and his friends in front of him. Not the nightmarish demons he’d dealt with, but the plushies he loved so dearly.

Tears came to Evan’s eyes. He’d never felt so alone in his entire life. The slow crawl of the beeping got even slower than before.

“Can you hear me..?”

Evan heard the call… It sounded like Michael… Evan’s tears refused to stop, as the kid kept crying.

“I’m sorry…”

Evan’s ears perked up… Michael was sorry? He had never apologized to Evan prior… Was there some good in him after all? Evan listened…

“You’re broken”

Evan knew that voice…. then he saw… the Foxy plush fade away. Where were they going…?

“We are still your friends.”

The Chica plush was next to fade away. “W-Wait, d-don’t leave me here!!” Evan yelled, horrified at the realization.

“Do you still believe that?”

Then the Bonnie plush faded… Evan started to weep harder. Crying, Evan stared at Freddy and Fredbear… no… not Fredbear.

“I’m still here”

Freddy was next to fade… leaving only Evan and Fredbear. “F-Fredbear…. N…not you too….” Evan’s fears were through the roof at this point as a numbing sensation came through his body.

Fredbear stared at him with a serious expression, before he finally spoke, “I will put you back together…”

Then the bear was gone…

Evan let the tears pour from his face as he cried the hardest he ever had… as the numbing fully took over. But as the numbing took over him…. He swore he could hear the faint sound of a flatline…

The father and teenage son watched the heart monitor flatline.

William sighed, and sat down on a chair, holding his head in his hands. Michael stood, staring.

“Michael… What did you do?” William said, his voice semi muffled by his hands

“I didn’t mean to…” Was all Michael was able to reply, he was mortified at his own actions.

William looked up at Michael, a look of… anger? Disappointment? It was impossible to tell through the mask of neutrality he wore.

Michael was unable to think anymore. Although, he was unsure if anything would be the same ever again…

Williams' mind drifted elsewhere, thinking of a single, locked box.

***

Just a single box, lit with only 1 light. You reach out for the locks, and tap them. They don’t open. You keep trying, and trying to open this box, wondering what's inside. It won’t open, and yet you keep trying. Haven’t you ever heard the phrase “some things are better left forgotten?” No? Well then, that is curious. Curious indeed. You poke more at the locks. They won’t unlock. Not right now, at least. Rattling them more will not change that, you can’t coerce metal open. You turn the box around. There is nothing new back there. Just more blue covering and 2 hinges. I don’t know what you expect from it. I can’t tell you what's in there, all I know is that it isn’t anything good. No, shaking it won’t change that, put it down. Nothing important is in there, why do you INSIST on trying to open it. I have told you so many times, there's nothing in there. Some things are better left forgotten, don’t you remember that? What satisfaction do you get trying to open the box? That's right, you get none. Put the box down, and leave it alone. Leave the demons to his demons. No good will come of opening the box, trust me, trust me.

Perhaps some things are best left forgotten…
