After he finished grooming himself to look perfect he cleared his throat

"Ahem! Like I said before you didn't win, I'm pretty sure you can understand now you've seen how strong I am"

Struck out of my stupor I recalled his words

"So, how did I pass?"

An old mans smile played on his rough lips as he looked at me

"Your little display there. You truly are on the path that you want to be on"

I became confused

"The path I want to be on?"

"That feral almost animal like assault you attacked me with. The desperation of your attack where you didn't have time to think shows your deepest and truest thoughts"

His words seemed both profound and confusing

"W-what would happen if I failed?"

"Hahaha. If you failed the test I would try my best to persuade you to change paths"

No matter how much he explained it all seemed too much for me to properly understand his words

Clutching my wounds I paused and thought for awhile before my cracked lips opened once again letting words flow between the valleys formed of cracked skin

"What now?"

"Hmmm?"

Confused by my question the wolf simply stared at me

"What happens now?"

"Oh. Are you eager to return?"

I nodded gently at his question

"You can't return for now, it will take a little bit for your body to properly adjust to your new abilities"

My ears perked up at his words

"What powers am I getting?"

The wolfs face showed a look of utter ridicule

"Why the hell should I know? Figure it out for yourself"

His attitude was shitty but annoyingly, he wasn't wrong in his answer

'I wonder what powers I'll get?'

"I will tell you something so you don't get your hopes up"

Interested I stared at him intently

"Your most likely going to be an enhancer"

'An enhancer?'

Confused I thought for a while trying to find the right answer before I asked him of my suspicions

"Because beasts are strong?"

"Bahahaha! Correct. Maybe you are a child worth teaching"

Standing up he walked up to me and stopped before raising his leg and gently laying it on my chest

"For being such a great student I shall do you a favor"

Taking in a deep breath he closed his eyes and focused

Words that seemed more like natural sounds escaped his maw simultaneously just like the doctors words had

The sounds both resembled the sounds in a forest like birds and the gentle rushing of wind between the leaves whilst also resonating with harsh and artificial sounds much like the latest machinery and the sounds of steam machines all at the same time

It sounded like a record of something

No voice made the same sound nor did they try to merge together but all played independently as if accenting and defining each other

It was definitely vastly different from the way the doctor or anyone I had ever met before sounded when they were invoking or using their energy

Instead of the limb bursting into a whiteish color that seemed to search outwards as if to explore and understand, the air around the paw seemed to spark to life and stretch inwardly to gently cling to his paw giving it a soft radiance of white

A white glow that didn't attempt to escape but continued to be brought towards his paw like a gentle vacuum

After a short time the energy stopped gathering and slowly flowed into me making my blood vessels tingle and my flesh to wiggle with energy

Before long my injuries seemed to connect to each other and heal leaving nothing behind, not even an inkling of the previous damage

The only evidence left was my torn clothes and pants which didn't heal themselves

After healing me the wolf let his paw fall back down underneath him

I was so surprised that I didn't notice his completely regular self. He wasn't breathing heavily and didn't look tired in the slightest, it was as if it didn't have the slightest impact on him

"W-what?"

"There, now you can wait painlessly"

It was shocking to have all my pain and wounds disappear like they had never existed in the first place

As I was looking at where wounds once were the wolfs head perked up

Looking around he paused after a few seconds

"Looks like waiting will be pointless"

Confused I followed his gaze to find a vast fog moving across the platform devouring everything in its wake as if it had been starved for eternity

It flowed and shifted much like water as it reached out for me

"What is that!"

"That is your way out, it is time for you to leave"

Afraid I dared not to get closer to the fog that rushed towards me desperate for my everything

Everything engulfed by the fog no longer seemed to exist

The leaves no longer rustled

The trees no longer played their soft melodies as the wind passed them

The crackling leaves were no longer carried on the wind

All that was left was the insatiable fog that begged for more and more to fill the emptiness within it

I went to stand up and run but I felt a force push my back and me towards the fog

"Leave already you shitty student"

Unable to stop myself I fell into the depths of the ever growing fog and faded into nothing

A bright light cut through the abyss waking me from my paralysis

I didn't know how long I had been waiting for my consciousness to return to my body but it had finally done so

It took a few moments for my eyes to adjust to the light that invaded them and for my brain to work out what it was seeing

But when it had I recognized the familiar roof of the infirmary that I had seen just before appearing in that odd world with the trees and the talking wolf

Gazing around I noticed a few men in guard uniforms staring down at me

As I was working out what was going on they signaled over someone else

A stunning green haired women appeared causing my thoughts to momentarily freeze up

"Good morning, are you ok?"

After a long pause I realized that she as talking to me

"Oh! Y-yes. I'm fine, thank you"

A large smile spread across her face at the news causing my brain to halt once again due to her brilliance

"Congratulations on awakening"

I was shocked by her words

I had completely forgotten about the fact of my awakening due to my long stay in the void

I quickly pulled myself up into a sitting position as the lady backed off slightly so we didn't butt heads accidentally

'What powers did I get?'

Just when I was about to try random things to see if my powers would activate she stopped me with a simple gesture

"It would be best to wait for awhile, your body still getting used to itself"

"Ah, ok"

I could hear the disappointment in my own tone

"And a few things happened while you were unconscious"

Not understanding her words I turned my gaze to the place she had gestured

The floor was ripped apart and a bone was surrounded by many armed guards as they threatened it, John was relaxing and messing around with an odd spear as Charlotte was on the ground with her body covered in dried blood

"Charlotte!? What happened?"

Perking up at my voice her head spun at an impossible speed to meet my gaze

"Lucas!! You fucker!"

Her anger frightened me to the bone

Just as I was worrying for my safety I noticed the guards taking a few steps to the side completely exposing me to her wrath and murderous gaze

Looking at them they avoided my gaze and looked away

They were most likely a tier above her and yet they quivered like lambs in front of her

Faced with the scariest foe I had ever met I ignored a nagging feeling at the back of my brain, an instinct like feeling telling me I forgot something important. Something integral that related to my very existence
