CH 27: My great escape

CH 27: My great escape

The vines were rapidly approaching me as I analyzed everything around me

'Shit, why couldn't I have packed flint or something useful against plants?'

My eyes rapidly darted around and I spotted pieces of broken debris and rocks that I quickly picked up

Holding them tightly in my hand I lowered my body to make sure I could launch no matter what unexpected situations happened

After obtaining throwable items and preparing my body I carefully watched the vines to see how they were naturally acting as they looked for me

As they slithered towards me they would cross over each other and spread out ensuring there wasn't any spots for their prey to step on without alerting them

Their net of surveillance only widened and closed in on me the longer I waited

Tightly gripping one of the stones between my index, middle finger and thumb I looked for the perfect spot to draw their attention

When I found it I ditched the peddle sized concrete with all my strength towards a large area that was sparse in vines

"Ticck"

The rock hit the old floor boards and made a tapping sound

Everything was still for a few seconds before all the vines rushed towards the place the rock had hit and pierced the floor multiple times as if attacking an invisible opponent

All of the vines that were previously forming a net around me had retracted and attacked the spot the rock had hit

This left almost half of the living room empty for me to move around in

I had to move quickly or the vines would come flooding back in to recreate their surveillance net and eventually find and trap me without anyway for me to resist

Without a second thought I bolted towards the room filled with the different documents and pieces of paper

Upon entering I stumbled and hit the table, using it to prop myself up I looked back towards the living room

The vines had gone back to laying their trap and continued to search the area that I was standing at before, completely unaware of the fact that I had launched into this room when I had the chance

As the vines advanced on their search I continued to look for a way out

I ripped the papers off the walls and stuffed them into my satchel as I looked for holes in the wall or cracks that let light through

I kept ripping and searching but I couldn't find anything useful

I quickly gave up and inspected the roof and floor thinking of breaking out that way

Everything kept coming up empty as the vines spread out looking in all the other rooms

It was only a matter of time until they came into this room and end up killing me

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

'Do I start digging into the floor with my dagger? Would it take too long to make a big enough hole?'

As I was desperately feeling the surfaces in the room filled with documents my brain began to speed up

Thoughts raced through my mind faster and faster causing time to slow down

My thoughts outpaced time itself as information rushed through my head

'I have three minutes tops? Bricks are tough and impossible to break through in that time'

As I finished inspecting this room my eyes darted over towards the farming room which had rotten and begun falling apart

'The apartment wouldn't waste money on brick walls inside the building'

I drew on my memory and knowledge of what I was taught by others and what I had seen and discovered during my years of roaming the wasteland and analyzing structures

'Ply wall? Drywall? It doesn't matter, they're both extremely easy to break when attacked head on'

In a matter of seconds I had discovered a way out

I immediately bolted towards the room covered in dirt, bones and other shit that might cause one to fall over

Pulling out my dagger I stabbed it into the wall as hard as I could causing it to slide in with relative ease

After it had been stabbed in I pulled the dagger downwards with all my strength causing it to begin cutting

It wasn't as easy of a job as I thought it would be

'You cut rebar so easily so why're you having a problem with this shit?'

I changed my grip on the dagger and pressed down with both hands causing the dagger to begin cutting through the material with more ease than before

It only took a short time before a large slash spanning from my neck to legs appeared on the wall

'Now just three more cuts!'

"Crunchh"

Turning around I found vines squeezing the table into splinters as it scowered for me slowly losing its patience in the process

'I don't have enough time!'

Focusing I gripped my dagger and did a horizontal slash

It grew from the top part of the previous slash and extended down diagonally taking up a reasonable space

As soon as I finished that slash I moved onto the next without being distracted by the loud sounds approaching me from the room behind me

I used the second slash to bridge the two previous slashes to open up a hole for me to climb through

Halfway through the cut I heard the vines breaking the doorframe on their way in

'Fuck! How are they getting faster?'

They were getting faster and faster, I wouldn't be able to make the rest of the slash at this rate

Sheathing my dagger I punched the wall causing it to bend from the force

I continued to punch it as the sounds made me more desperate

It took no less than twelve punches for it to bend enough for me to push down on it with the help of gravity

Leaning forwards the wall continued to bend until it snapped off completely causing me to fall through the hall and back out into the hallway as the vines finally caught up to my spot

I laid there convulsing and paralyzed as the rebar hit something it shouldn't have making blood gush out like a spring for a few seconds before it yet again calmed down back to a regular flow of blood

It took sometime for my body to calm down and my body return to my control

'Fuck. That was unpleasant'

I quickly stood up using the wall as a crutch as I glared at the plants that had climbed up onto the railing before spreading its vines into the apartment to find me

"I can't believe this fucker"

I strolled up to the plant that looked like a green watermelon with a glowing yellow orb on the end

Unsheathing my dagger on the way I sliced it in half and watched as its roots released the railing before the bottom half fell down to the first floor lifeless

The top half landed on the floor in front of me

'Score!'

Grabbing the orb which was still glowing I cut off the green tendril that held it to the upper half leaving only the useful part

I stuffed it into my satchel while still being wary of the vines that seemed to be dead

Being careless is the first and steepest step towards death

I backed up away from the vines as soon as I could and got a reasonable way from the plant that was previously hunting me

'How the fuck am I supposed to escape when your climbing up to this fucking floor!'

I looked for a new apartment to go through to 'borrow' their window to get out while complaining about the shitty plants

Walking a few doors down I twisted the door handle and opened the door

'Of course its the second door I try that's easy. But it couldn't ever be the first one I try can it!!'

I lamented at my bad luck I walked through the house and climbed through the broken window right onto the fire escape that was sitting right at that window

'How fucking ironic'

I stood onto the fire escape and looked down to the alley way I had originally come from
