Day: 6
Lee Jun opened his eyes slowly, he was in a bright room and all he could see was five blurry shadowy figures looking over him. His eyes were watery making everything blurry, he closed his eyes as it wasn’t too comfortable in the bright light. Instead he chose to listen.
“Chung Il hyung nim that was going too far!” Roi Lee said as he shot a glance at Lee Jun. None of them had noticed Lee Jun had already woken up.
“How can you hurt a student?” Choi Jong asked with concern hoping to get some truth on the matter. He knew there had to be reason why Chung Il did what he did. He could not buy the explanation that Lee Jun had evoked such a response from a master. ‘Something isn’t adding up here…’ He thought to himself.
Chung Il held his head low and quietly listened to what every one had to say to him. He wanted to explain everything to them but Cha Eunhee had explicitly banned him from mentioning anything to the other masters. Although sword training without protective gear was scripted on his part, the entire injury in itself was rather spontaneous descision…in other words it would be considered no less than a mistake on Chung Il’s part. Rather than chickening out of the plan as Chung Il wanted to, Cha Eunhee pushed his buttons into continuing.
‘On the Brightside the most dangerous item on the list is over.’ Chung Il thought to himself as he was being scolded by the other three.
Lee Jun wondered where his mother was, she should have been informed about the incident?
“Where is the boy’s mother?” Roi Lee asked suspiously.
“We informed her that he is on a special training camp for the weekend…” Chung Il said as he looked away from the others. He knew they would scold him more for this.
“How can you lie to her!” Choi Jong asked in shock. Chung Il the level headed person that he knew would never do something like this!
Choi Jong was sure Cha Eunhee was involved in this matter somehow. He didn’t pursue talking to Chung Il anymore and quietly left the room with the others.
Choi Jong knew no matter how many times they would ask, it was pointless Chung Il wound’t tell them anything. The one person who held the key to the entire story was Cha Eunhee and he had to find her before she made Chung Il do anything more dangerous.
Lee Jun was slightly alarmed learning that his mother wasn’t told the truth. He could not imagine his masters being as such that they would hide the truth.
Lee Jun slowly opened his eyes and sat up straight. His masters greeted him and left Chung Il and him alone in the room. An awkward silence grew in the room steadily. Lee Jun took the initiative to break the silence. “I guess I need more training, ahaha…”
Chung Il smiled seeing the effort his student was taking to lighten the mood. “A lot more training, but you are doing fine at your pace right now.”
“So what happened? How long have I been out?” Lee Jun asked as he looked around at his surroundings.
“I accidently attacked you with fullforce and knocked you out with the reverse side of my blade…” Chung Il paused he wasn’t sure how to proceed with the next bit… “It was more serious than you can imagine, I think reflexively stabbed you back…thought it was shallow it was still a wound to the chest…you were out for a complete day.”
Lee Jun couldn’t believe it, “I was stabbed in the chest?” He asked for reconfirmation.
“Well there is no damage, it wasn’t too deep and it hit none of your vital organs. Lungs, heart etc everything is ok.” Chung Il assured Lee Jun who looked most scared as he clutched on to his shirt. “Why don’t you take off that shirt and I’ll bring you a mirror to see yourself in…”
Lee Jun lifted his shirt to see the wound on his chest. There was a slight scar left behind but nothing permanent. It would probably go away in a few days.
“We are at Fortisse Hospital, so you have the country’s finest doctors treating you. You can be assured you are in safe hands.” Chung Il said as he tried to address the scar on Lee Jun’s chest. “They used tissue damage repair operation; it was an instant recovery with no permenant marks.”
Lee Jun slowly pulled down his shirt; he wasn’t sure what to make of it. Since everything happened so quickly he didn’t know what to make of it. He didn’t even remember the sword striking him through the back, though he did remember being knocked down from the back.
Lee Jun shuddered as he recalled the last moments of his fight. He could barely remember it but did remember a burning sensation spread from the center of his chest when he lay in the pool of his own blood.
“Master if it was an instant recovery…why am I still in the hospital?” Lee Jun asked suspisiously.
“Because you fainted brat!” Cha Eunhee answered his question. She really didn’t like the boy who disrespected his elder. It was a genuine reply too.
“You were too tired and with the sudden loss of blood, you just collapsed.” Chung Il quickly explained. “You didn’t wake up because you were simply tired…”
Lee Jun thought about it for a moment, it was the best sleep he had had in a long long time. Every night he was plagued with nightmares or some weird dream…but for once in a long time he really felt truly rested. His muscles were relaxed and he was pumped up with energy.
“Then we can leave?” He asked as he threw away the blanket.
Chung Il smiled and Cha Eunhee frowned.
“Yes, we can leave.” Chung Il said as he stood up too.
“Brat…” Cha Eunhee called out to Lee Jun.
Lee Jun turned and looked in her direction. He didn’t understand why she disliked him.
“Don’t tell your mother about this…” Cha Eunhee requested.
The wrath of his mother was fearsome Chung Il had experienced her ire first hand and his knees were trembling in fear.
“I don’t know if I can lie to her…” Lee Jun teased Cha Eunhee back. “She can easily see through all my lies…”
‘That’s what you get for being so rude!’ Lee Jun thought.
‘Why this brat….I am going to make him experience more hell!’ Cha Eunhee thought to herself.
Chung Il, ‘My dojang is going to shut down…’
“Well it is a request on behalf your timid master.” Cha Eunhee replied. “Why don’t you go on ahead, we need to speak to the doctors and make sure the records are completed. Head down this corridor and the exit is on your right, it will be the door with nothing marked on it.
Lee Jun quietly left while Cha Eunhee shifted her attention to Chung Il.
“What do you think you were doing!” Cha Eunhee asked angrily. “It was meant to be a shock therapy not a killing session!”
“He was in no danger…” Chung Il replied, “I aimed such that it would hit no vital organs…”
Cha Eunhee stood in shock for a moment, she knew her husband was a master of a dojang but she would have never believed his skill was so ridiculously impressive. However, now was not the moment to stare at him in awe. She quickly gathered herself and began scolding on a new line of argument. “We were supposed to build up it up slowly not abruptly like that…it can have consequences that we can’t even imagine?”
“Isn’t this entire plan fraught with risk?” Chung Il shot back. “Everything we do can have consquences…and what if his mother finds out? Will you take responsibility?”
“Don’t worry about that…” Cha Eunhee replied cooly.
“Why not?” Chung Il asked with an astonished look on his face.
“Because blackmail is an effective answer to many problems…” Cha Eunhee said with the same deviously evil grin that Chung Il saw on her face yesterday.
“What have you done?” Chung Il asked in horror.
Cha Eunhee held up a room marker which read, “Changing Room – Women Only!”
It took a moment for Chung Il to realize what just happened. Before he could rush out of the room to save his beloved disciple he heard a few women squealing.
As Chung Il and Cha Eunhee made their way down the corridor which Lee Jun had taken, they could see Lee Jun being scolded by one of the nurses. Cha Eunhee smiled, ‘That’s why you should never mess with your elders…’
This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
“Are you this child’s grandparents?” The Nurse asked as Cha Eunhee and Chung Il approached them.
“Yes.” Cha Eunhee lied.
Lee Jun was too dazzed in shock from what he had witnessed to hear the lie.
“This boy was caught peeping into the women’s changing room!” The nurse complained.
“I am sorry.” Cha Eunhee spoke in a melodramatic fashion while slightly bowing. “Our grandson is a little on the perverted side. He is going through puberty …. his parents passed away and we don’t know how to stop him… ” Cha Eunhee explained with fake tears brimming in her eyes. “Could you please forgive him…”
Lee Jun’s red face was wearing the imprint of a large hand and he now he was too shocked by Cha Eunhee lie to speak. He wanted to fight back and point out that there was no room marker on the door reading women’s changing room, he wanted to explain that Cha Eunhee was not his grandmother and he wanted to explain that she was the one who told him this was the exit…he did not expect Cha Eunhee to be so vicious and cruel…and even if he did say anything who would believe the words of a child?
The nurse looked at the grandparents and sighed. “Well please be strict with him. You can’t make excuses like this all the time!” She said.
“Yes ofcourse. Jun why don’t you apologize to the nice lady. You shouldn’t do something like this ever again.” Cha Eunhee teased.
Lee Jun obediently bowed to the nurse and apologized.
Cha Eunhee frowned, ‘You are still to meek.’ She was secretly hoping all this while that Lee Jun would burst out in anger and explain the truth. However since he was too level headed about the situation, he never brought out his feelings. ‘If you clog them up like that it will only become worse…’
Once the nurse left, Cha Eunhee turned to Lee Jun, “Quite the daring pervert, aren’t you?” She asked slyly.
“…why?” Lee Jun muttered in anger. He was boiling mad in rage right now.
“Lets let not speak to your mother about these things.” Cha Eunhee began, “I think your mother would hate learning that her son has a peeping fetish…”
“I understand…” Lee Jun said as he pushed by Cha Eunhee.
“Was all that necessary?” Chung Il asked as he stood silently witnessing Cha Eunhee’s lies.
“Did you notice something?” Cha Eunhee asked.
“Yes, this child is more mature than you.” Chung Il replied slightly irritated.
Cha Eunhee shot her husband an angry look. “This was your request not mine. If I am going to help him then I am going to do things my way!”
“…” Chung Il recoiled back in fear.
“He didn’t fight back once. Even now he isn’t fighting back…he is holding all those emotions inside him….it is like a cracker being set of inside a bottle, at some point the bottle will explode…what do you think happened last time?”
“But this wasn’t on the script…” Chung Il argued back weakly.
“Neither was stabbing him…these things go on guts…” Cha Eunhee defended her position.
“But what about the consequences…” Chung Il immediately dropped that line of reasoning; which his wife gave to him when he tried defending his spontaneous action, seeing his wife’s glare.
“We need to push him further…” Cha Eunhee said.
“As scripted?” Chung Il asked dreadfully.
“Minor adjustments…” Cha Eunhee replied as they left the hospital and found Lee Jun sitting in the reception waiting for them.
The drive back to the dojang was quiet. Neither party said a word to the other. Lee Jun was quietly going through what happened in his mind. Nothing was adding up, what did he ever do to Cha Eunhee that deserved this treatment? The situation reminded him of something similar he had experienced…Wu Fang Li’s betrayal. It always bothered him that his good friend for no reason decided to betray him.
Why? Is it something I do or say unknowingly to offend people around me? Lee Jun pondered. He wanted to ask Cha Eunhee why she did it but he didn’t have the guts to do it. In someway he also felt partially guilty for what he witnessed. The moments were forever imprinted in his photographic memory like mind. Lee Jun went red in embarrassment as he recalled what he saw…he was only too glad that they reached the Dojang disturbing his train of thoughts. Is this puberty? Lee Jun wondered.
“Perverted brat.” Cha Eunhee called out.
Lee Jun looked up quietly; he had forgotten he had bigger fish to deal with.
“We told your mother that you will be staying with us over the weekend. She sent some clothes over.” Cha Eunhee said as she handed Lee Jun a bag full of his clothes.
“Your room is in the eastern wing, go get changed and come back, we are going to go out for dinner.” Cha Eunhee said.
Lee Jun stepped out of the administration room and headed towards the eastern wing; with none of the practioners coming to the dojang, it looked more like a ghost house. It was vast and empty with not a soul in sight…
Lee Jun stepped into the eastern wing and found two rows of beds lined up. ‘I didn’t know this dojang had a hostel facility for practioners…none of the practioners ever stayed back…or spoke of it…’
Lee Jun noticed that someone else’s belongings scattered all over one of the beds. He was glad he had company. He quickly took out his clothes and a towel from his bag and headed down to the showers. ‘I wonder if they have soap?’ He wondered since all he had was a shampoo... As he walked towards the showers, he could hear the water running… ‘Don’t tell me it’s an open shower…I wonder which practioners is staying back?’ Lee Jun had memorized everyone’s name and face.
Lee Jun sighed, it was an open shower. Luckily it was was really steamy so he couldn’t see anyone else. He quietly made his way through the steam and towards a shower. He stood under the hot shower as it massaged his developing muscles. He still had a lot on his mind; Cha Eunhee was the devil’s spawn. She was testing him at every nook and corner… ‘I have to be careful of her…Yikes too hot!’ Lee Jun looked around for his shampoo bottle as the steam made it impossible to tell which way he had been standing. He waved his hands around hoping to hit the wall when he touched something spongy and soft…it almost felt like skin… ‘Was there anyone in our dojang that fat?’ Lee Jun wondered; given his height and what he had felt he concluded it was someone’s stomach he had touched…
“Sorry, just looking for the shampoo…” Lee Jun said.
“KYYAAAA!” Ji Woo screamed.
“Fuck…” Lee Jun said as he recognized the voice. He lost consciousness after that; he just flew through the air and hit the wall upon receiving a roundhouse kick. The shampoo bottle fell by his side.
