Vol 5: Chapter 3 - Cold Blooded Cruelty! by Alak and V4

Your mission has been accepted by the Kobold representative. As per it’s terms:

1. You will hand over Kendelbreu’s map and Kendelbreu’s treasure to the Kobolds.

2. You will invest your own money in purchasing necessary ingredients to manufacture weapons for the Kobold Army.

3. In return for these services, the Kobold will share 5% of Kendelbreu’s treasure with you.

4. You will be compensated with market value of goods at the time of payment + 55 Silver.

5. You have also been granted exclusive weapon sale rights to the Kobolds. The Kobold Army will only purchase weapons, armors and shields from you.

Once the deal was sealed. The Elder stepped out of his hut and told the Kobolds waiting outside the news. There was widespread joy on their faces. They chanted the Elder’s name in praise for the deal seemed to be unbelievably good. Warriors were requested to take their own measurements and give them to Weed who would be residing with the Elder.

Weed too was delighted with his plan. With a single move he secured many victories. He and the Kobold would soon have their little revenge on Kendelbreu. Weed would gain the promised 5% cut from the wicked dwarf’s wealth. He would also get money for everything he sold to the kobolds. He also gained exclusive weapon sales rights. The cherry on the cake was that he could improve his relationship with the Kobolds.

Weed opened the alchemy book. It was the first book on alchemy he came across, even the Northern Mountain City had limited books on alchemy. He was curious to see what mysterious recipes were hidden away in this book. As Weed flipped through the pages, there was text written in Kobold’s language, some pages were written in a dwarvish language, some pages in elvish and some in human. The book was very old and seemed to be passed from hand to hand. Though old, it was very well preserved, only few pages couldn’t be read as they were torn or the ink had faded. Weed was certain, that there must be some restoration art available to restore the book to it’s former glory.

As Weed continued flipping through pages, there were some scripts which even Weed couldn’t decipher. Luckily, Weed didn’t have to worry about learning the different languages at once as there were drawings accompanied with each recipe. One such drawing caught his eye. It depicted a black colored scorpion with 4 pincers. The next scene, showed taking the scorpion tail and pressing a sword against it. A black drop dripped into a cauldron. After stirring thoroughly, the wooden mixing spoon was shown melted. Is that acid? Weed wondered.

As he continued reading, arrows and swords could be dipped into it and there seemed to be a lot of “+” signs. Weed could only understand it as some sort of added benefit. Weed looked at his inventory, he had 103 scorpion tails. If he used this recipe, he could charge the dwarves more for an ingredient that is unavailable in the market. Weed smiled devilishly as the idea took roots, he could recover his margins here.

Weed had been assigned several Kobolds to help him with anything he required. He had to ask one of the kobold to translate the recipe for him.

Weed then turned to the long line of Kobolds who stood in front of him. Weed quickly took their measurements and began calculating how much ore would he require. He had limited amount of money and ore himself. A lot of the ore he previously bought was simply lying in Rodriguez ranch. Weed quickly wrote a letter, requesting Rodriguez to release his stockpile of ore and handed it over to a Kobold. He especially told the Kobold not attract any attention in Lavias. He didn’t want other players to learn of the Kobold Hall’s existence just yet. Weed send another Kobold to call for the Elder’s grandson, as they would have to buy ore.

Once he was done with measurements and calculating how much ore he needed. The translator returned to him with the recipe. A Weed took the recipe, the Kobold handed it over with a warning, “Much too dangerous this. Terrible Terrible Omen.”

Weed paid no heed. In war, there was nothing terrible. Only surviving mattered. The title of the recipe was Bone Acid Poison. The main ingredient of the acid was the black scorpion tail venom. It’s venom when mixed with the right contents would form deadly poison that would eat away any organic substance. Weed wondered if this could work against the scorpions. Technically their shell was organic in nature as it was formed through their very skins toughening. The concoction was listed as one of the hundred banned poisons for having no cure. Even if they couldn’t melt the shell it was quite possible to poison the creature. He needed some time to prepare this poison however as he would have to collect the ingredients first. Weed added notes to his shopping list.

Weed noted in the translated recipe that the venom was stronger as the scorpion grew older. Weed had only baby tails. Guess this will have to do.. The other ingredient had some strange name but the kobold who translated the page seemed to know them. On the side many little notes were scribbled in kobold script, it was instruction on how to store the liquid.

‘I wonder, will this work looking at the alchemist book.’

Once he had a plan set. Weed accompanied with the grandson went shopping. They picked up ore from local Kobold and dwarf traders. Both Weed and the kobold negotiated hard on the prices. Most of the ore came from dwarf traders. These dwarf traders were either too poor to do business in their own city or were led by some dwarven mafia who were out to scam the Kobolds and take advantage of their poverty. Once done with the ore, the grandson handed the alchemy ingredients to an attendant and led Weed to the end of the kobold town. Next to the town stood a cave and inside were some really old alchemy equipment, many rusted and some broken. Ideally, Weed would have bought new equipment but money was of the essence. He needed all the money he had to buy ore. Weed took what was needed and what could be repaired. It took Weed one day to repair the broken equipment and was all set to begin alchemy.

“Thank you for helping.” he said to a kobold bringing ingredients “Please put them next to me on that table.” Weed pointed at the table next to him. He was standing in front of alchemic tubes, burners and several reagents. It was a slow and time consuming process, but as per the notes, the acid would significantly boost kill stats. A direct hit to the flesh would burn away the skin. The victim would die quickly in agony while feeling a burning sensation. Weed began creating the acid as carefully as he could. In it’s raw form it was most concentrated. Weed had to dilute it several times with water so that the cauldron would not burn away. His motto was the motto of every alchemist that lived before him, “live to experiment and for god sakes do not touch the stuff you create.”

They were not common chemistry ingredients as he knew off like in the competition where he could mix tin and copper and create bronze. The mixture contained some bodily parts and fluids of creatures he had not encountered and plants he had no idea where to gather from. Weed classified the process as sort of a witch brew.

“Please stand at the far side and don’t move.” Weed told his Kobold assistants as he pointed a vague area at the far end of the cave.

Weed finally brought out scorpion tails, following the instructions, he made a small cut on it’s tip and pressed out the venom. Black venom dripped out slowly into the mixture. The mixture instantly turned black and started bubbling. He then dropped the shell into the final reagent. It quickly dissolved. He took out the remaining tails he had and added them in the same way. Though he did not have giant scorpion tails, he had many baby scorpion tails.

Alchemist skill level up! – You are now beginner level 3 alchemist!

You created one of the 100 banned poisons, Bone Acid Poison! Made of black scorpion tail venom this poison is so deadly that there has been no known cure for it. Even after death, it continues to remain in an active state. When the kingdoms were in a warring state, the poison was the preferred choice. However it not only killed soldiers but lay the ground to waste for decades. As it is so deadly and does more bad than good, all kingdom’s have banned its creation. If you accidently touch it you will die!

“There. We are done.” Weed smiled as he stared at the message. It gave him goosebumps to think that this poison was so scary.

“Start pouring it into these vials.” Weed motioned the kobold assistants to help him. As his assistant poured the poison into the vial, the acid burned through the vial and dripped on to the assistant. The Kobold hissed in pain but soon began crying and screaming in agony. The poison burned through his reptilian skin. Within moments, the entire Kobold was consumed by the acid. Weed and the other assistants only stared in horror. All that was left was now a pile of armor on the ground.

“At least it’s working as intended.” Weed sighted to the Elder’s grandson who stood at the cave entrance in horror.
