Vol 8: Chapter 3 - Consequences (Part 2)

Day: 7

‘Why master?’ were Lee Jun’s thought’s as he watched his master standing with one leg raised facing him. Lee Jun’s body grew cold and stomach churned violently. He was soon overwhelmed by a feeling of lightness as blood rushed to his head.

The scene of his master’s kick soon disappeared and was replaced with blurs of different shades of brown and patches of greens inbetween.

Lee Jun could no longer hear his own thoughts as air rushed in from behind his ears. The air rushed through the gaps between his arms and legs, he knew this sensation all too well. He was falling…he was falling down fast…and this wasn’t a dream or virtual reality where could just wake up. This wasn’t some endless feeling of falling. What lay beneath greeting him was the cold hard ground.

This was reality…he was falling to his death.

Day: 1

“I am better now, thank you for visiting…” Chung Il said with a warm smile.

Cha Eunhee looked at him one more time before looking away. Even now when they were so old she was easily embarrassed in moments such as these. She had literally fallen head over heels Chung Il’s smile.

“Is that the boy you spoke of?” Cha Eunhee asked as she pointed towards Lee Jun. She was trying to distract her attention by switching topic.

“Ah yes. It is him…”

“Never have you spoken so highly of a student before…this one looks so young and frail. How long has he been practicing?” Cha Eunhee asked with concern.

“A little over 3 weeks.”

“That is all? What have you seen in three weeks that left such a strong impression on you?”

“Your words are misplaced, I saw something very special in him the very first day I met him.”

Cha Eunhee shot him a puzzled expression.

“And what did you see?” she asked softly.

“I saw no limits of this child’s potential…”

“…”

“But he does have one flaw…maybe a wound or scar more than a flaw…” Chung Il explained, “He hurt himself and is now unable to log back into VR.”

“Is that so bad?” Cha Eunhee asked curiously.

“No…from the perspective of the way of the sword it is not so bad. However, in today’s society, a child unable to accept VR is like a fish out of water. They are bound to flip flop and die. Even if he continues without curing his ailment he may be alive but not alive. Everyday might turn into a struggle until he suffocates…”

“I agree with you…isn’t that why you returned? Even if you can learn the way of the sword, once you are used to the feel of it in VR, there is no going back?” Cha Eunhee asked with a smile. She knew her husband all too well.

Chung Il sheepishly smiled. He was caught, regardless of an introduction to VR games, he would have probably begun some series or the other.

Help support creative writers by finding and reading their stories on the original site.

“I want to help this child. More than his potential, I believe in his determination. I saw it in his eyes…”

“Then I will help you. Though, if you need my help you should just ask for it. You don’t have to burden all the problems on your own…in all these years you have never changed…I guess it is something I should stop expecting…but for once I would like to hear you …”

“Cha Eunhee, please help me.” Chung Il asked without hesitation.

Cha Eunhee smiled back she was only teasing him. “You are so serious about him…”

“I would have done this for any of my disciples…”

“That is so true…just like master Ahn Hyundo…”

“Then will you help me?” Chung Il asked with a smile.

“Of course I will!” Cha Eunhee emphasized it again and again. “You don’t doubt my abilities? Do you?”

“Well you have stopped your practice for over ten years…”

“Well excuse me!” Cha Eunhee said taking offense, “Let me remind you, it was I who pioneered treating psychological ailment with the aid of virtual reality? Do you forget?”

Chung Il nodded side ways, how could he possibly forget, his wife received a global recognition award for her work.

“Even if this is the opposite case of my life’s works…I promise you in no more than seven days I will cure this boy of his ailment!” Cha Eunhee declared.

Lee Jun sneezed; he wondered who was thinking of him…
