Chapter 131: Regrets

Chapter 131: Regrets

After listening to the King's story, I can't help but think he's a bigger dick than I gave him credit for. Not only did the prejudiced fool have his daughter's non-elven friends killed, but he also acted terribly towards her at the time. Spewing lines like "It's time to grow up," and "Death is a part of life you have to accept."

His words weren't wrong, but when you consider the fact that he instigated the whole scenario... There's no justification for his actions.

"So to sum it up, you killed your daughter's friends and basically said, "Get over it." That's... Why? I don't get it. Honestly. It literally makes no sense. Why would you do that? Did you think she would just fall in line after you took away her spark?" Standing beside me is the Ringmaster and, even though Randy has a moon for a head, he somehow looks confused too.

This is becoming ridiculous now. It's not even dungeon-related, but it's certainly off the stupid chart. That's for sure.

The King's excuses consist of phrases like "It was for her own good," and "I thought it was the right decision at the time." The latter wouldn't have been the worst if it hadn't immediately been followed by "But I would do it again."

Is he serious? Maybe he deserves a few more rounds in the Coliseum? That might change his ironclad insistence of knowing what's best. I'm not going to keep bullying him myself, this time I'll at least put him up against some people he might stand a chance against. A slim chance. It would be more like torture if I was to rinse and repeat our initial arrival. Not that it wouldn't go towards being a lesson learned mind you.

I can also check out the progress of my family too. Randy praises their efforts frequently and now's a good enough time as ever to see the fruits of their labour. Plus, it's not like the elven kingdom is going anywhere. Aura should be fine since she's their princess and if not... Well, Becca's with her I suppose.

"So," I forego the King's title and get straight down to business, setting some precedent for future me's life on easy street, "I don't know how your pulling the wool over Soul Guide's eyes, but you're definitely not a reformed man. I mean, who actually says, 'I'd do it all over again,' and expects forgiveness? Are you for real?" His gaze drop to the floor.

He's probably got more chance of help appearing down there than in the sky. Not that our plane-jumping visitors live up there. That's a piece of made-up bullshit some religion came up with whenever-ago.

"You may as well tell me. How are you doing it? If it was just your soul, I might not have even noticed had you been a good actor. The thing is, it's not only your soul that's bullshiting The System, is it? All those foul-mouthed little bastards back there have grey souls too, don't they? And I'll tell you now, your majesty, that's not how a neutral person acts. If anyone should know, it's me!" Now he looks confused. Like I've uttered nonsense at him and he isn't able to comprehend my words.

Although, I'm probably more confused than he is. So far, Soul Guide has been spot on about everyone. We don't go out of our way to make people confess their crimes during reformation, but some of the things they come out with voluntarily... It's enough to make you want to perform a few torturous acts yourself.

"I'm telling you now, nobody knows more about souls than I do, so..." Hang on, is that true?

Remembering their is a presence more knowledgeable than myself, whether or not she'll be any help is another story, I summon Sis to the Coliseum with a sigh. Her hair is a mess and dried tears stain her face. When her eyes meet mine, she looks at me in terror.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Honestly, there just aren't enough hours in days to deal with everything.

That said, time stops in the dungeon as myself and Sis arrive in my domain. Instead of my regular haunt, we're standing on a small bridge. Sitting above a little stream and overlooking the same golden meadow where we first met, a small table with a parasol and two chairs, also the same, await us.

Seeing the familiar setting, Sis visibly relaxes. With no Goblins in sight, her shoulders sag and a sigh of relief escapes her lips. It hasn't even been that long since I left her alone with her new charges, but I can already see the toll they're taking on her. Unless her acting skills are the polar opposite of the elf King's, it must be as bad as I thought it was going to be.

A few days in my Domain should be enough to remove the stress of having to deal with the goblins. I can get her to check the King's soul after she's rested herself. I need to make sure there isn't a problem with Soul Guide and since Sis is the one who gave me the skill, she's the one to verify it's authenticity.

And that's exactly what we did. We took a few days to relax, enjoying leisurely time in each other's company and even bonding slightly, but now I'm right back to hating her.

Apparently, there's nothing wrong with my skill according to it's silly creator. Not that her information can be trusted. Nine times out of ten, it's missing crucial information or completely non-existent. As has been the case before. I'm not just making shit up to slander her, it's called a track record.

"What do you mean there's nothing wrong with my skill? Check again, just to be sure." I check on the King while Sis does whatever it is her system thing does. Odd enough, Aura's father isn't putting up any complaints whatsoever. Although, he probably knows where they would fall on deaf ears so...

"Well?" As it's been said, patience is not my strongest suit and I pester Sis repeatedly until she finishes. The results are not to my liking though and, after she's finished, I can't help but ask her to check a third time.

"I don't know what you want me to say Abi. He's neutral." Not on my life is his grey soul. He killed his daughter's friends. How is that a neutral worthy position?

"I can see that Captain Obvious." I can't help but frown as the elf in question remains silent. "Look at him. And it's even worse when he speaks. It's like he doesn't care about his past transgressions at all and he did some really shady shit."

"When people repent.." Nope.

"He isn't repenting. Look at him, Sis." I can't help but cut her off.

"Well, when they're forgiven by the people they've wronged..."

"Also a hard no. Aura certainly hasn't forgiven him. Not to mention he committed genocide, meaning there are no Paupers left to grant him their grace either." Who's Sis trying to kid here? Why is she advocating so highly for this guy? This fucking guy. Why?

Reverting back to my original plan, I send Sis off and summon Amber. I'm looking forward to seeing how the triplets have grown. I still remember watching them get whooped by a Stone Golem.

The gluttonous Dragon appears with a mouth full of food and holding a drumstick coated in sauce. She doesn't look pleased. Nobody likes having their meal interrupted, Amber more than most. Evident by the frown she's throwing me.

I'm annoying everyone today. Not that I'm trying.

"Hey, Amber. Sorry for the abrupt summoning, it's just been one of those days." Instead of responding, Amber swallows her food. Then she starts on the drumstick. Maybe I should have stayed somewhere else too?

"Don't worry, I won't keep you long. I can see you were busy," finally I get a smile out of her. "I want is to see how you've grown in strength and this guy," I point at the source of my frustration, "Is your opponent."

Amber briefly glances at the King, who stayed silent the entire time to his credit, before giving me the 'do I have too?' look. It's understandable that she might be a little hesitant. He's not a Golem that's been created by the Ringmaster after all.

"Faster you finish, the faster you can get back to work."

Amber huffs, but smiles and I can't help but giggle on the inside at how childish she can act. That giggle is immediately stifled the moment Amber transforms into a large, orange Dragon and rips the king in half. A single bite was all it took and half his body disappeared. Gone.

Maybe she wasn't nervous then? She might have even thought the task beneath her. No wonder she huffed. Although, that could still be food related. The jury's still out on that one.

Ignoring the fact that half his body disappeared down her gullet, Amber's dragon form is beautiful. Wings the colour of a fiery sunset, her scales shimmer the same bright orange and lead down to a black at her claws. She's also huge.
