Chapter 118: Rebellion?

Chapter 118: Rebellion?

For two days in a row now, I've been the person with the most to say at our morning meetings.

Usually, I just nod along and keep my mouth shut. My family being so capable and all. It's definitely nothing to do with the fact that it's early and I'm still tired. Then again, I've never been a morning person.

Not that I'll tell them that fact. I'd feel bad if they pushed back the meetings I originally scheduled for this time just because a certain Dungeon Core can't hack it.

That's probably why I'm frustrated over the fact that I have to participate more than I usually would. Seriously, it's more like I'm updating them rather than it being the other way around. Especially when nothing much has changed since yesterday. The only difference to the meeting, besides my run down on You, is that Randy the Ringmaster replaced Mystique and Coral in the additional spot.

The Headmaster and her assistant gave me some wonderful news yesterday regarding our Space Mage programme and I'm hoping that in the near future, we'll have a small battalion of them trained up. Not that I put the most confidence in humans, but my gut tells me I'm going to need them at some point in the future.

Marie is fantastic, but it's been proven that she isn't strong enough to handle certain situations by herself. She is only human after all. With a battalion of mages following her command though, that portal would have been closed much faster.

Hana and Mira informed me that Kolena was an excellent addition to the reformation team. Thanks to her sight, the Goddess can see the best options to clear souls of their corruption. I knew she'd do well in that department and hopefully, You will also perform as capably in the dungeon.

I can't see her not doing well though. She's a bloody dungeon subsystem - or at least that's what my notifications tell me, so she better do a good job. Otherwise, I'll have to find someone else to replace her.

When the time for Randy to speak finally arrives, the Ringmaster stands up and bows. His voice is then broadcast around the table by the connection we share through my dungeon. Seeing as how he doesn't have a mouth, that's the way he always communicates.

"The first Rebellion Dragon is ready to evolve." Oh My Self! His voice is like music to my ears and I jump up from my seat with a loud "Yes!"

Mayor Kana is startled back into consciousness as it would seem she was falling asleep. I'd have something to say about that if I wasn't so excited by Randy's news. Way to go, Becca.

"Where is she?" I ask, ready to end the meeting there, before checking her location myself.

"At the Daycare. She has no more training scheduled until after her evolution. Instead, the triplets are booked in for her spots today."

Even better. Randy's killing the leveling game and I didn't even notice. I knew he was doing a good job, but he's actually on the ball. Today might turn out to be quite a good day after all.

With the meeting finished - not just because I wanted it to be, but because Randy was the last speaker and had said all he had to say, Becca's evolution jumped to number one on today's to-do list, trumping everything else by miles.

I can't wait. The elven delegate Edwan, on the other hand, can. So too can my usual job of improving the wall and I arrive at the Dragon Daycare faster than Amber gets to Ali's.

Chanting her name in my head as I reach the building, the sound of drums can be heard as I step inside. Becca's had a thing for that drum kit and even though I praised her growing skill on my last visit, she still wasn't interested in what I had to say.

I don't think it's her fault though. It has something to do with the fact that she was summoned directly as a Rebellion Dragon. The triplets are nowhere near as snappy, nor are they prone to the same outbursts that plague Becca.

Following the beat of the drum, I find my target in the lounge. Instead of unintentionally making her cause a scene by saying the wrong thing, the only word I speak is her name, "Becca?"

With her back towards me, the drumming stops and her hand hangs in the air. Slightly shaking, the soft glow enveloping her body leaves small afterimages as I wait for a response. I can't help but be proud that she's made it this far, even with what we've both endured. I'm then subjected to the world's harshest glare as Becca stands up and turns to face me.

This is hard.

I take a deep breath to stop myself from overreacting and watch her do the same. It must be tough for her, being forced to be that way. What's my excuse?

"Are you ready?" I ask full of anticipation only for it to be burst by an eye roll.

It's really hard.

"I'll take that as a yes then. Here we go." I activate her evolution and watch as she glows brighter, growing an extra foot as she does. Once the light fades, the first change that captures my attention is her eyes, ruby red and pure gorgeous. Silk-like hair reaches the bottom of her back and is reminiscent of Mythril.

Rebecca the Rebellion Dragon has evolved into The Oncoming Storm:

The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

Hell hath no fury like a dragon scorned.

Unpredictable, uncontrollable and a force of nature all on her own, there will never be another like Rebecca as she is unique to herself.

At any time she may appear, causing calamity and destruction in her wake. Fear the power of nature as its unstoppable rage decimates everything in its path.

"That doesn't sound like it's gotten any better at all! What the hell was that, Sis?" The culprit in the corner responsible for the flavour text must have eaten a whole bag of onions recently because I could cry after reading that.

Seriously. This is why I was always giving you the stick!

"I thought that's what you wanted? Cool descriptions and clever wording." I... May have said something along those lines, a long time ago, but things have changed now. However, even if I did say that, it isn't like I asked for Calamity and Destruction. I thought we were supposed to be helping people.

"What happened to that peaceful vibe they had going? I liked that one." As I talk about her, Becca is checking herself out. She looks damn good, even if I am slightly jealous that she's taller than me.

"She still has the effect," Sis answers as though I should already have known.

"So what's with the calamity, destruction and unstoppable rage then?" I can barely contain myself and it isn't even Becca who's vexing me. The culprit, however, looks away like I haven't just asked her a super important question.

"I suppose it doesn't matter anyway," I sigh, returning my attention to The Oncoming Storm. The beauty dungeon strikes again. Already beautiful? Don't worry about it, you can come for an upgrade instead.

"Are you ok, Becca?" The Dragon in question is inspecting her hands. She looks... Happy? I hope that's how she looks when she's happy. Lifting her head, the first smile I've ever seen Becca show spreads across her face. I want to reciprocate the gesture, but I'm still nervous as hell because of the problem Dragon's flavour text.

What if I say the wrong thing and she burns Varona down? Not that it would come to that. I'm pretty sure we'd be able to contain her before she got passed the daycare. Still, I'm anxious as hell.

My heart jumps as The Oncoming Storm rushes straight towards me. Before I can react, the ruby-eyed monster picks me up and squeezes tight. For a moment, I can't help but panic, unsure whether Becca is trying to crush me in a death grip or not until I settle into her arms.

"That's so nice," I muffle between her bosom, letting myself relax in her embrace. We stand like that for a while until she finally lets me out.

"I've wanted to do that for so long," tears run down her cheek.

"Don't start crying, you'll get me going," I smile as Sis chirps in from behind me.

"See, I told you it would be fine." She places a hand on my shoulder and smiles like she knew this would happen all along. I can't help but glare at her, the same way Becca used to glare at me.

"You said nothing of the sort. In fact, if you knew what was going to happen, why didn't you tell me beforehand?" I still can't get over Sis. She's a right pain in my ass sometimes. Then again, she wouldn't be who she is if she wasn't like that.

As I look at the freshly upgraded Oncoming Storm, it breaks my heart that I have to go and deal with a bunch of stupid elves instead of spending time with her. Although we've barely spoken -and even when we did it never went well, I feel a strong connection with Becca, the same as the triplets.

"So, listen. I've got to go deal with those elves that arrived yesterday, but after that, I think it's time that me and you got to know each other better." Still wrapped in Becca's arms, I have to stop myself from chuckling as the image of Me and You entered my mind.

"I would like that very much, Master." Releasing me fully, the once problematic child bows to me in agreement and my Core flutters.

She likes it! Yes. Now I can't wait. I'll just speedily send the elves on their way with my promise of visiting soon.

They said a month would be fine, but I'm still not sure where they live. Even after all my acquisitions yesterday, I went as far west as I could before running out of points and saw no sign of elves.

I'll have to get some solid directions when I'm kicking them out. Then, I can get back and hang out with Becca.

Here we go.

Edwan and the elves are no longer at the Privacy Palace and have moved on to Ali's. Even though the time is between breakfast and lunch, The Chef caters for anyone regardless of the time or reason. Seated inside, the elves are all enjoying the local cuisine as I arrive. Amber is obviously here too, exuding peace over the entire establishment. You couldn't be annoyed by her hungry face if you wanted to.

Before I'm able to speak to the elf in charge, Aura enters Ali's and orders a snack box from the counter.

Edwan seems to be shocked at the appearance of yet another elf, which is unexpected as he's already met with Eduine, and begins whispering with his men. It would have been within the norm to say they were taken in by her beauty, but that's not what was happening. Edwan was whispering something in elvish that - oddly enough, I happened to partially understand.

Strange.

It might have something to do with the fact that I've absorbed an elf or two in my time that's helping me understand their language, but I can't comprehend everything they're saying. Maybe that's because I don't have their species unlocked in my summon section. I still need to absorb one more elf for that to happen. The requirements for unlocking races and their classes are much different from that of monsters and beasts.

Either way, that's not what's important. What is important, is what I just overheard.

Princess Aura?

What the hell?

I won't say anything about it though, or at least I'll try not to. That's a bomb I'd rather avoid and I'm sure she has her reasons for not mentioning the fact that she's royalty. Then again, I can't believe the human and elf running the city's support groups are a Catergoriser and a Princess. That is random as hell.

"Ahem," I cough into my hand, stealing Edwan's attention away from his men and the missing princess. "Edwan, I think that I'll be able to meet your King after all."

Eduine smiles at the unexpected turn of events. It was only yesterday I had turned him down after all.

"Are we all going?" Blondie asks from behind me, causing me to jump. She's not alone either as Violet and Bear are accompanying the little ninja making me wonder why Amber is the only one still working. Then again if Blondie comes, I have no doubt that she'll end up working overtime along with her sister.

"Sure," I answer after composing myself. "I'm pretty confident that the elven lands will have some tasty food for Amber to try out also." This catches the attention of the hungry triplet at the table. A good meal being the sole reason she lives her life day in day out.

"Can we bring Bear?" I knew that was coming and quickly asked Eduine, who nodded politely in response. "We revere most animals in the forest. Especially the mighty bear," he then tells the triplet.

The mention of her partner's name and species, not to mention the whole revering part, had the third triplet hooked. With that in mind, I made sure to get sound directions from Edwan before leaving him in the company of the peaceful Rebellion Dragons.

I was also looking forward to reaching the elven capital and enjoying some time off whilst there.

I damn well need it.
