Interlude --2 | Jack Liord

I looked at the odd pair I had come in to test. One was a giant of a woman with jade skin and tusks remnant of an orcs. Her aura was unrestrained and actually comparable to a lesser dragon, though she didn’t possess any domain resistance, which either means she was fabricated or extremely abnormal to grow that fast.

The same went for the second one, who was even more abnormal than the first. Her aura was restrained, but surpassed an elder dragon in quantity. Curiously I checked her mana levels and found her to have less mana than one, but a fast enough regeneration to make an aura comparable to them.

This, according to the experience gathered by my three hundred year long life, should be impossible. Unless she has more cores than an elder dragon… but that shouldn’t be possible- I checked and had to stop myself from stumbling as I counted the amount of cores inside her. Six cores! Elder dragons have three! Well luckily they’re only at the (aware) stage, but even that is shocking. The girl can’t be more than a dozen days old!

And that was only the beginning! On top of having two heads- both of which were beautiful- she had stellar combat instincts, but obviously lacked training.

Not to mention the girl seemed hopelessly naive about the world, though that should be a given being so young. Deciding I would tutor the girl I introduced myself after our brief skirmish.

But that again, was merely the beginning. Though no affinity for space magic, the girl’s- Immuta’s- familiar had enough to warrant god Laitaps’ attention himself! A brief jealousy sparked in my chest but I quickly shoved it down and waited for the forced evolution to end.

After that we gathered materials and headed into the dungeon Erocdrah, aiming for the thirtieth floor. She and her familiar, which was named Flysa, easily took care of the wolves that attacked us. But when the second group was defeated and Immuta grew a new tail, she suddenly revived the dead! Specifically she created a sort of servant, but considering it was a dullahan is enough for some temples to consider it undead. She then used the ability again but this time created a wolfkin! A full, living and breathing wolf kin!

But yet again I was surprised. She possessed the ancient and lost trait of [transmutation], and Flysa had the [Shapeshifter] trait along with one I had only heard of fiends possessing: [Endless Stomach]! Her two new servants also surprised me with their strength, now a bit above B-level compared to the C-rank giant ash wolves.

And that was before I started actually teaching them martial arts… The girl has scary aptitude for learning, soaking up the forms almost instantly compared to how it took me months to learn them. While not as good as Immuta, Flysa and the two vassals Choco and Reverie also seemed to possess a tad of the girls learning speed. I had to change the style of teaching due to different weapons, but that didn’t matter much.

Seeing their progress caused me to shiver. If they had domains they would easily be SA rank. And that didn’t take into account their almost flawless teamwork, as if all of them are connected by strings and instinctively know what the other is doing.

Then the behemoth appeared. It is a creature that can be compared to a full-fledged dragon if it has a domain, but this one only had full resistance. While worried I let them fight it with the continued restriction of having no weapons. At first it seemed they were doing actual damage, however the behemoth did something I didn’t expect and was thus unprepared for it.

It used a stunning roar, and with the speed the mana traveled it hit me before I could flush the mana. I was disoriented for no more than two seconds, yet in that instant Immuta had already recovered and was flying towards the wound she made before I could stop her.

The behemoth roared in pain, its snake tail smashing into the walls and floor as it desperately clawed at its chest.

Sending a small prayer I gathered Immuta’s subordinates and protected them with my domain off to the side while she did something inside the behemoth. With an explosion of mana- strong enough to actually crack the walls and floor- a giant gaping hole was ripped open in the behemoth’s chest.

Slowly the beast collapsed and I saw a dark-red humanoid light jump out of the hole only to land on the beast’s steel bristles. Moving forward cautiously I saw her pulling out a bunch of her hair, her remaining mana wrapping around it. I stood still in shock, there is no way. She wants to turn it into a servant!? Before I could stop her she had already pressed into the behemoth and mana poured from her body. Her cores won’t be able to support the mana uptake! I grit my teeth and was about to intervene with my domain, then left my mouth gaping open as more cores started growing in her body, and her old ones all ascended another level.

The behemoth’s corpse started glowing uncontrollably, the blood on the ground defying gravity and raising into the air in large droplets.

Turning away from the light a minute passed, two, three. Then the light dimmed suddenly, and I turned back to see-
