Chapter -10 | The odd kitsune

Chapter -10 | The odd kitsune

“Are you sure this is the entrance to a new dungeon?” Ryn hesitantly asked, tucking a piece of curly auburn hair behind her triangular cat ears.

“How else would you explain it? Help me get the damn door open.” Michael said with a grunt, desperately trying to pull the handle out of the door.

I sighed and looked at the aura surrounding the door with concern. “Michael, I really think we should leave this alone. We don’t need to open it for reporting the information.”

Michael scoffed and continued tugging on the door in the ground. The whole thing was made of a single slab of stone easily four meters tall and two wide, easily capable of letting a member of the cyclops race through if it was opened.

Most dungeon doors were about this size, although the more powerful ones could be large enough for a small dragon to fit through.

Damn bastard, probably wants to get praise from his father. Sighing I put my hand on my sword and approached him, my metal plate armor clanking as I did so. “Mike. We are here to help the disposal of orcs, not discovering new dungeons. We need to go, now.”

Sighing he let go of the handle and grimaced in frustration, “Fine, but can we come back here after? I really want to try it.”

Nodding I turned to leave when -*click srrrrrrrrrr- The door easily slid open to the side and out stepped the oddest beast girl I have ever seen. Pure white fox ears perked ontop of her two cute heads, both showing that they would be beautiful when the girl growed older. Long white hair flowed down her back and her pale skin seemed to shine in the light of the rising sun. Two pairs of ruby red eyes observed the four of us, pausing on Ryn and Alice behind me before glancing over me and michael.

My eyes then travelled downward and I noticed she was wearing exceptionally high-quality armor, though I couldn’t identify the pelt. Momentarily my breath was stolen by the odd spear she wielded, its tip obviously made of some kind of adamantium.

Startling me back into reality was the pale separation of her left-heads pink lips, “Can you understand me?”

“A-Ah yes.” I was momentarily surprised she spoke to us in the divine language but responded nonetheless. Everyone in the world had at least a basic understanding of the language, though she spoke it naturally.

A gentle smile alighted both her heads, “Greetings. May I know who you are and why you were pulling on my door?” She said with a slight nod.

Ryn stepped up, her tail nervously waving behind her; “Sorry for the disturbance, Michael here thought it was a dungeon due to its size.” I glanced at Ryn, so she noticed the being's aura as well. Heck even michael noticed it cause he was sweating buckets. It didn’t help that Ryn threw him into the fire.

An amused smirk flittered across the girl’s two faces, “Dungeon eh?”

“Yes.” Alice then stepped up by Ryn while nervously fiddling with the dark brown hair of her wolf tail. “As for us, we are adventurers that came to thin out the orc populations from Revelulus.”

““Eh~ Adventureres?”” She looked at us with sparkling eyes, “Then can I ask you for a favor?”

A bad prenotion ran through me, “What is it exactly that you need?”

She grinned, “I want to become an adventurer myself and see the world, however I have no identification as I’ve lived in this forest my whole life and I have no idea where the cities are.” She paused and the other head continued, “You are free to request something in return, but I’ll offer my and my companion’s protection while traveling.”

I looked to my four friends for help. Michael and Alice shrugged, while Ryn gave me a look; ‘not like we have much of a choice.’

Sighing I turned back to the fox girl, “We have nothing better to do, but we first have to complete the quest for killing some of the orcs.”

The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.

Both her heads nodded, ““Very well.”” She tilted her right head, “We can also assist with this if you want by keeping stragglers and flankers off your backs.”

Relief tapped on my chest and I nodded gratefully, “Thank you- er…”

The fox girl smiled sadly, “I do not have a name. I was abandoned by my parents when born and I’ve only ever met my companion who just calls me master.”

“Ah sorry.” I scratched my head in embarressment, “A-anyway. I am Hyls Stonebrook, this is my friend Michael Furosis,” I said while clasping him on the shoulder, then gestured to the other two, “The catgirl is Ryn and the wolfkin is Alice.”

The foxgirl raised an eyebrow on each head, “No last names for you two?” She asked them.

Ryn shook her head, “We are both commoners that graduated from the grand magic academy of Revelulus.”

““Ah. Sorry.””

Alice shook her head with a toothy wry smile on her maw; “Don’t be. We have a much better life than most, especially being a C-rank party.”

“Well,” I interupted, “Shall we go?”

The foxgirl gave me an amused smile, “Sure, by the way” She stepped to the side and I noticed a giant of a woman behind her, “this is Flysa.”

“Greetings.” Flysa said with a nod of her head, her short black hair swaying slightly. Brilliant azure eyes sat in her amazonian face filled with strong womanly features. Her skin was soft green-white and muscular. I blinked when I noticed two tusks peeking out of her lips like an orc, though i’ve never seen an orc like this. Maybe a half breed?

She wore high-quality armor similar to the beast girl, but had a type of glaive instead of a spear; though not to any reduction of quality with its adamantium blade.

“W-well. Why don’t we get going?” I said, slightly overwhelmed by the power the aura of the pair.

““Sure.””

“Ah,” Alice interrupted, “C-can you please withhold your aura though? We won’t be able to go anywhere unnoticed with it out like that.”

““Aura?”” She asked while tilting her left head.

Alice blinked, “Do, do you not know about it?”

The foxgirl shook her two heads, while Flysa was frowning slightly, “Master’s aura is definitely powerful… Umu but it feels good to bask in…” she muttered and showed mixed expressions of longing and indecision.

“Um, do you mind me asking how old you are?” Alice asked curiously.

The fox girl’s expression cramped; “Young. I’m not even ten yet.”

Ten? Not even? She looks like she’s thirteen though…

“Eh? Where have you been living?” Ryn asked while observing her.

She shrugged and gestured to the forest around us; ““Here. Haven’t seen anywhere else except the grassland.””

I blinked in surprise, she says she was abandoned at birth. But someone must have took care of her right?

“Well, it is said kitsunes go through childhood extremely quickly…” Ryn muttured while looking at the girl with pity.

However, “What!? Kitsune!?” I shouted and checked behind the girl, sure enough there were actually multiple tails, both with snow white fur that occasionally had a blue spark zap through it.

Ryn and Alice gave me a disapproving glare and the foxgirl- no kitsune, tilted her head in confusion. ““Is it that surprising?””

Alice nodded, “Kitsunes are very rare. They live for a long time, are extremely powerful, and generally don’t have many children, if at all. Finding a child kitsune is unheard of as they are usually protected by their mother until they grow at least three tails and are considered adult.”

The kitsune’s faces cramped slightly; “that probably makes me a prime target for a slaver doesn’t it?”

The four of us hardened our faces when we realized she was probably right. Meanwhile Flysa was stewing behind her, “I won’t let anyone take master!” She declared and promptly embraced the kitsune who blushed in response.

I sighed wryly at seeing the interaction. Ryn spoke up with a slight smile seeing the Kitsune clueless on how to continue with her follower intimately embracing her in front of others, “For now me and Alice can teach you how to repress your aura. Though considering your power you would need something to store it so it doesn’t explode the instant you release the pent up pressure.”

““Do you know any materials that do that?”” The kitsune asked from the embrace of Flysa, still blushing but seemingly given up with disengaging for a while.

“Mm. Most crystals will store mana, the best being diamond followed by Sapphire. However you should know the crystal will change depending on the potency and affinity of the mana put inside it.” Ryn responded.

“Umu, I can probably get some of those.” the kitsune nodded and tapped Flysa’s arm to let her go; which she hesitantly did.

Inhaling deeply she tapped her foot on the ground. A pulse of mana radiated out from her foot and wisps of something sprung from the ground and collased in the form of two nearly transparent crystal necklaces.

Me and the others stared in shock as the kitsune happily picked up the necklaces and drapped one over each neck. ““There. Shall we get going?”” She asked with a smile.
