Chapter --3 | The slime

I woke with a start, sweat leaking from between my fur. Huh, so I’m a canine that can sweat. I noted absently before fully sitting up, ripping the web I carefully wove last night in the process. Glancing out of my alcove I noted that it was early morning, the first streaks of dawn gently lighting the water outside. Speaking of which I never really examined my surroundings too much did I? I guess that’s something to do for today. I narrowed my eyes, a companion would be nice as well. Though I’d have to figure out how to keep it from betraying me…

Sighing I stood up and stretched, instantly becoming aware of my new growth. I’m at least six cen taller than yesterday, my muscles are more developed as well… Does my species grow that fast or am I just abnormal? I snorted, probably the latter.

Picking up my spear I briefly glanced at the tip, then grinned with an idea. Using my claw I dug deep notches in the wood near the tip, then used them as anchors to secure a condensed stone spearhead made with magic. I swung the top-heavy weapon a couple times and shrugged, crappy weapon, but it will do for now. Maybe I can withdraw metal from the ground with magic? I’ll experiment when I get home.

Just in case I created a layer of condensed stone around the wooden staff part and a thick ball on the other end to use as a mace. ~ting!

You have created a D-rank magic weapon!

Gained trait: [Weapon Creation]!

Gained trait: [Imbue Magic]!

Eh? I raised an eyebrow, Magic weapon? I glanced at the plain stone spear in my hand. Sure enough I could sense some mana residing in the weapon. Gripping it tightly I thrust it forward while pouring more mana into it, and to my surprise a small cut appeared a meter away on the wall.

Well. I guess creating things with magic has an effect… Sighing I made my way outside of my alcove while noting several things I would have to do such as adding spikes to the entrance and beams to support the expansion I am planning. I sighed, I have alot to do.

Reaching the shore I hefted my spear and moved to the treeline while sharpening my senses. Glancing at a tree I briefly wondered if I was going to have to mark my territory when I get older, then shook my head and focused on my surroundings again.

My pelt is going to stand out in the forest, I grimaced, I do not want to cover myself in mud so I’m going to have to be careful not to attract too much attention. I sighed. This is going to be a pain.

Luckily the forest had plenty of cover, so to most I’ll just appear as a white patch. Though when it get’s brighter later I might have a problem, both with my eyesight and being seen.

*rstle “Squeee hunk!”

Turning towards the noise I quickly sped through the forest, coming across a large four-tusked brown boar flinging a small white slime- bleeding a clear liquid- into the air with its snout. The slime smashed into a tree, hit the ground and pitifully shivered as the boar prepared to charge it. Pity taking over I dashed at the boar despite it being twice my height. Snorting as it noticed me the boar tried to turn mid charge. I charged my spear tip with mana and swung as hard as I could at its neck, leaving a deep bloody gash through its flesh but failing to sever the spine. Enraged the boar tried to ram me from close range but I stepped back to avoid, then swung the mace end of my spear with all my might, slamming down on the boar’s skull with an audible crack, the bone and skin rippling and shattering as the boar’s legs gave way and its head dug into the ground.

Not taking any chances I stabbed my spear into its spine. Satisfied that the boar didn’t even react I sighed in relief then turned around to find the slime quivering in the crook of a tree root.

Cute… Walking over to it the slime quivered harder at my presence, causing my heart to pang in my chest. Gently I kneeled down and scooped it up in my hand, the clear liquid leaking into my fur from multiple punctures on its body. I stared at the small slime only as big as my palm in confusion. How am I supposed to heal it? I don’t know how slime anatomy works so healing might be… I shook my head and focused my magic, gathering the energy in my fur underneath the slime and thought of comfort and healing as I let it pour into the slime, who in turn jumped in surprise then started greedily sucking up my mana. In moment the gashes on the slime started healing, its white body gaining a clear transparency unlike its opaque injured form. Suddenly the slime shook greatly and light blue sparks started forming inside it around the tiny pink core floating in its body. *ting~

I blinked at the windows and carefully pet the slime in my hands while reading. Smiling at the familiar part I held up the slime and looked at it. “You will be named Flysa.”

The slime, Flysa, happily quivered in acceptance causing me to grin. Placing her on my head between my ears I stood and moved over to the boar, carefully making sure Flysa didn’t fall off her new perch.

Now then… I observed the boars corpse and shrugged. Guess I should carry it home… I frowned, the boar was at least four times my total size, how the hell could I manage that? Taking Flysa off my head I placed her in the remains of the boar’s skull, “Eat up Flysa.”

Shaking in conformation her body began pulling in the juices and meat of the boar, digesting them inside her before taking other bits of flesh and devouring them. Meanwhile I moved to the side of the boar and formed a small knife out of mana, promptly cutting out a bloody chunk of flesh and biting into it. Status.

I frowned as I chewed the thick skin of the boar, reading through Flysa’s status as I cut out another chunk of meat. Her mana is less than one-fourth of mine, and her regeneration is only 1/20th. I tilted my head, it would take about 42 seconds for me to refill my mana completely, on the other hand it would take Flysa over two minutes. While Flysa only had one core compared to my four if we go by Flysa’s mana then I should only regen twenty mana a second. However I regen a hundred… Is it exponential?

Sighing I dropped the thoughts and checked her boons and traits. Looks like the blessing is shared considering her evolution limit, on the other hand Healing Magic? She’s a type of healing slime? Well Sano is latin for cure… Speaking of which why is the status in a language I can understand? I’m pretty sure the beings where I was born weren’t speaking english or latin. Uth, well I probably won’t be able to figure it out anytime soon.

*ting~

Through [Assimilation] Flysa has gained a new trait - [Hard Hide]!

Pushing off the boar I nearly dropped the piece of meat I was holding. Glancing at the window I moved around to Flysa and found that she devoured all of the boar’s head and was now working on the beginning of the body. I raised an eyebrow, even the tusks were devoured. *ting~

Flysa has leveled up! Flysa’s body mass has increased to (Small)!

I smiled wryly, so she can level up by devouring corpses… should I say as expected of a slime? Well no matter, I should probably move the corpse from here before predators come. Though carrying it is going to be a pain. Can I even lift it?

Shrugging I stuck my spear into its spine then dug my claws into the flesh and put strength into my hips, slowly pulling the heavy boar onto my shoulders like a huge barrel. Breathing deeply I slowly stepped forward, my foot leaving a small indentation in the ground. I grinned, now then, let’s get this back to base shall we?
