“Are we going to get moving soon?” the man asked abruptly.
Doc pulled from his study of the stars out the passenger side window and rolled his eyes. “Do you really want to go to that house while the aliens are still there? If you do, I’ll be more than happy to get out and let you have at it.”
There was no reply. The driver sat in his seat and watched the man sitting scant inches to his right. Yes. It had been a stupid question, but the man’s silence was spooking him. He jerked a thumb to the rear of the truck.
“Our passenger is quiet.”
If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.
“Probably asleep.” Doc turned his attention to the window. “How long has it been?”
“Half an hour.”
“We’re dealing with an unknown here,” Doc explained while fighting down annoyance at the requirement. “No one has ever returned to an abduction site within three hours of operational start.” Maybe they should take the woman to some isolated place in the woods and bury her body, which was a much safer prospect. “If we let the woman loose within sight of the house, what do you think she will do?”
“Run for the lights,” was the immediate response.
“Yeah, she would be frightened and happy she had escaped our evil clutches,” Doc reconsidered the reply. Maybe the driver was right. “We will do it your way. Check the woman and see if she is alive, then we will go.”
“About time,” the driver grunted and exited the truck.
