Lia crawled to the lip of the gully and pulled herself up as a rattle of gunfire sounded beneath the roar of the helicopter. The gunship seemed to dip forwards then slide to one side and fall to the ground.

She let go of the gully wall and slid to the bottom as the last explosion ripped the night. Debris slashed overhead, but they were safe in the gully’s shelter.
