The small aliens returned fire, overwhelmed by the reaction of the posse. Soon the gully filled with the sound of buzzing bullets and the aliens fell.

The noise of the battle rose in a crescendo of violence and flashing lights that lit the woods in an imitation of a fourth of July celebration. Explosions punctuated the crackle of gunfire, the interval between explosions increasing until there was no defense from the aliens.

The men of the posse continued to fire from fear or adrenaline, destroying the small bodies where they lay.
